(Reuters) - NBC News' decision to air an edited call from George Zimmerman to police in the moments before he shot Trayvon Martin was "a mistake and not a deliberate act to misrepresent the phone call," according the president of network's news division.
The edit in question, which aired on the network's flagship "Today" morning show last week, made it appear that Zimmerman told police that Martin was black without being prompted, when, in fact, the full tape reveals that the neighborhood watch captain only did so when responding to a question posed by a dispatcher.
Under growing public pressure to explain the incident, NBC News President Steve Capus provided Reuters with the fullest explanation to date of how the edited call made it on air and what the network is doing to prevent such a consequential error from happening again.

And the allies “accidentally” invaded Normandy.
NBC: Forget the excuses. No one believes what you say.
Bull$h!t

Frank Zappa said it best
Yeah! Why did they fire the “seasoned editor” when the whole network agreed with the evil hit-job they “created” with the doctored audio?
The wicked bastards...
Ditto.
I See BS here.
Bullshit.
The version that we hope you will believe but we really don’t care if you do.
Liar.
“Fake but accurate”.
Except for the accurate part.
So pretty much just fake.
if it truly was a mistake, then why did you fire the so far as of yet unnamed producer???
Just like those incendiary devices just accidentally appeared on those GM Trucks, eh NBC?
I wonder how they covered the Shirly Sherrod hype. I am sure they did not let Breitbart off the hook.
Who buys this explanation? Anyone? From the people who brought you the rigged exploding pickup? NBC and the rest of the media had this guy already tried and convicted.
” - - - “a mistake and not a deliberate act to misrepresent the phone call,”
Okay, if we take these words and use them to portray what NBC has done in the past from rigging a Chevy pickup truck to catch on fire, to “sweating out” the police hero of the Atlanta Olympics bomb threat, to this editing, we would come up with the following:
“A deliberate mistake on NBC’s part was a virtual act of political correctness to represent the phone call as if one of our very own Liberal Agenda Media spinmeisters were at the scene.
This NBC Virtual App, that all of our producers and editors now use to virtualize and politically correct the news, (as we see that it is fit to print), will be available in Department Stores 6 weeks before the former Holiday called Christmas.
BTW, the launching of this new NBC App has been delayed so that its launch would follow Obama’s re-election by a respectable two weeks.”

Sure. I’ll believe that when I see some flying pigs.
Yeah, I do that too.
Whenever I utter a bald-faced slanderous lie that has the possibility of inciting a race riot that will result in the death of dozens of innocent people, it's always a mistake on my part and never deliberate.
But that's just me...
Bravo Sierra!!!
Oh. Ok, no prob. It wasn’t deliberate.
But, you do understand that the only other possible explanation is that you’re so pathetically inept you have no business reporting news. Right?
Dan Rather + Steve Capus = birds of a feather.
If it wasn’t deliberate then why did they fire the poor Orson-Welles-to-be?
NBC Law Department speaks. Sue them anyway!
You make mistakes in math or something like that. This was deliberate! And if it was a mistake then why fire the producer?
Think about how tens of thousands of excerpts from articles are copied and pasted here selectively. I haven’t seen once where someone accidentally edited to create such a false impression from the original.
They’re saying “uh, we accidentally cut out the he’s black part right after the he’s up to no good part. And it just coincides with the racist angle we’ve been trying to peddle.”
Remember folks- as late as 5- 10 years ago the media still might have gotten away with this and gotten a pulitzer for it
they do nt like coming under scrutiny
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
And don’t let them continue to act like Romney is the winner already- they did that with McLame after he (finally) won one state, and that is how we ended up with him getting saddled on us
BROKERED CONVENTION!!
The National Enquirer has more journalistic integrity and honesty than NBC.
Damn, make one mistake and get fired. I guess it didn’t fit the Nobama plan. (To many peeps might figure us out if we move to fast)
‘How to Avoid a Lawsuit 101’
Bite me..
You jumped on the Race Bandwagon with both feet.
LOL.
Yeah right. Oh well, they had to say it.
But only a pure fool would believe them.
Yeah right. Oh well, they had to say it.
But only a pure fool would believe them.
Assuming most of us are as stupid as he is is a fatal mistake.
What?: "Don't you eat that Yellow Snow"?
I have heard 6 year old children lie better!
NBC News President Steve Capus needs to be fired for being a poor liar! This man's inability to lie convincingly is a serious handicap for a propaganda organization.
They should have had Al Sharpton, an expert liar & beyond reproach as he is the same general color as Trayvon & Barack, give the explanation for the "accident".
they worried. Obama loses FCC might come after them. This was blatant on their part.
“Reverend Sharpton is a talk show host on MSNBC,” Capus said. “We believe there’s a distinction between the role he plays and our front line journalists who are part of NBC’s news gathering and reporting. This is a large news organization that has many people involved in any number of different aspects of coverage and commentary. That’s the distinction we’ve made as a news organization.””
Also known as we didn’t realize when we hired him we’d be afraid to fire him.
Just like the decision to send an incendiary into a Chevy pickuip truck to show us how much of a hazard they were was a istake. Once the foundation is rotten, the institution stays rotten.
“a mistake and not a deliberate act to misrepresent the phone call,” according the president of network’s news division.
So the headline should read according to NBC standards
A deliberate act to misrepresent the phone call,” according the president of network’s news division.
Then why “fire” the producer?
What they mean to say is, “It was a well thought out corporate decision and no minor player that did this.”
Bullshit! Getting caught was an accident. Them not being able to wriggle out of it was an accident. That is as far as the “accidents” go.
With regard to the image above, it cannot be said that it happened somehow by accident. These are major news agencies with the best equipment and image manipulation skills on the planet. This is more deliberate manipulation of the news and associated images to create anger and promote a particular line of propaganda.
How many examples can you find of the MSM doctoring the news either by editing 911 calls, police video or official mugshots? Perhaps by their choice of language - E.G.→ Coining the phrase "White Hispanic"?
Perhaps editing the images of Trayvon to show him as a baby, young boy or even photoshopping him to make him look like a doe-eyed model?
