Gingrich All But Concedes Race to Romney

April 8, 2012 Gingrich All But Concedes Race to Romney

By Nathan Hodge

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who once led the polls in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, all but conceded the race Sunday to his rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

In an interview with “Fox News Sunday,” Mr. Gingrich called Mr. Romney “far and away the most likely Republican nominee,” adding that he would throw his support behind the front-runner if Mr. Romney secured the required delegates for the nomination.

“If I end up not being the nominee, I have already talked to Chairman Reince Priebus at the Republican National Committee,” he said. “I’d want to work this fall to help defeat [President Barack] Obama any way I could. Whatever the team thinks I can do to be helpful, I would do.”

Both Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Romney hit each other hard during the primary race. “It turned out he had more things to hit with than I did,” Mr. Gingrich said. “And that’s part of the business.”

But while acknowledging Mr. Romney’s likely nomination, Mr. Gingrich said he would stay in the race to influence Republican thinking on issues from U.S. energy independence to revamping Social Security.

“Platforms matter in the long run in the evolution of the party,” he said. “And the party is more than just a presidential candidate. It’s Senate candidates, House candidates, state legislators.”

Mr. Gingrich’s comments come as Rick Santorum, Mr. Romney’s strongest remaining opponent, canceled campaign events on Monday after his youngest daughter, who has a genetic disorder, was hospitalized.

Everything that the GOP could have had against Obama
is GONE with the RINO SOB Romney.

ObamaCARE.

Ineligibility.

Support for TARP and Sharia.

Incompetent governing (Romney sacked Mass.)

Corrupt (Romney covered up the BIG DIG)

Excessive taxers (Romney calls them “fees”)

Destroyers of Constitutions (Romney overrode
the Mass. Constitution to impose Romney-Gay-Marriage.

What is left?

Romney and Republicans in Congress should make it an issue, a big issue, talk about 24/7 during the elections campaign.

The Dems and media would try and make it look like the Republicans are somehow responsible and the general public would not question this assertion.

Palin tested her chances on her national bus ride and didn’t like her chances.

I enjoyed the interview very much. Newt is so intelligent. He talked about how important it was that his campaign was about ideas. Then they showed a clip of Romney later in the show. It was a shallow sound bite. I hope Newt stays in just to raise the IQ of the discussion 50 points.

Yes the majority of voters would question the democrats and media lies...If the democrats and media can get away with lies all the times then they win elections all the times, the fact is that they do not win elections all the times, and in fact do not win elections most of the time, indicate that most voters are not as stupid as they think and hence they do not believe their lies. Remember 2010... if people are that stupid democrats would have kept their huge majortiy in Congress...let us not be so pessimistic and lose our grip in reality.

PS: In elections it is always EVENTS ON THE GROUND that determine the winners, not the media or even the candidates, yes they do have some effect but events on the ground are by far what make one side loses and another side wins.

No it isn't!

Romney with the current DOPe This was a typo but.. leadership will do more damage than can ever be undone. But hey, I am way too old to worry about it.

All of a sudden the Romneybots are very nice to Sarah Palin, after spending the last four years trashing her. All of a sudden they can’t stop mentioning that she will vote for him if he is the nominee.

Perhaps you can explain that to Governor Palin and Mr. Gingrich the next time you see them. Try not to yell though, it impresses no one.

The debt/deficit will be a big deal, and it is not so complicated that you can’t explain it to even the simplest of voters. We are spending 50% more than we take in every year. If you have a $20,000 a year job how long can you spend $30,000 a year? It is that simple. The money we need to close that gap cannot be raised by taxing the rich more, it cannot be raised in any way without crippling the economy. It is time to seriously look for things to cut and things to cut out. I don’t know how the Democrats can escape this debate without being ridiculed - their left wing will actually advocate more spending, probably accompanied by major (but still not enough, financially speaking) military cuts.

Mitt Romney is eyeing the White House bowling alley for food storage. It will be the best space a mormon has ever owned for a rainy day.

Its interesting to me you only mention romney. The other two have been showing their flaws too. I say this as a santorum supporter. I am bored with the whole election at this point. None of them, not even santorum, get me fired up.

I don’t think it will be much longer before it is only Romney, that’s why I only used his name. We know Ron Paul is only doing it for his benefit and it’s a question of whether Santorum will really put his political career at risk by continuing to Pennsylvania.

I certainly don’t support Romney. I am supporting Gingrich to the end.

That's exactly right. It's both sick and pathetic.

The race for Nomination is NOT over.

For Gingrich, it is. He has won two primaries. I don't see him picking up any big slates of delegates in New York, New Jersey or California. Or even in Texas. In the unlikely event this goes to a brokered convention, I don't see the power brokers choosing someone who lost 48 states (and all of the territories).
