Cosby on Trayvon Case: Disarm Neighborhood Watchmen

Give Cosby credit for not being playing the race card, but he's still not thinking this through completely. If an investigation proves Zimmerman's side of the story, "the gun" will end up being what might have saved his life.

We have a God-given right to patrol our own neighborhoods, which can be dangerous work. And if in the act of doing so we are attacked, "the gun" can come in awfully handy.

Let's also not forget that Zimmerman claims he wasn't following Trayvon Martin when the teenager attacked him.

Those two simple words flowed easily from the mouth of social commentator Bill Cosby during an exclusive interview Friday regarding the Trayvon Martin case, arguably the most high-profile, citizen-on-citizen U.S. slaying facing the Obama administration.

Trayvon was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who told police that a “confrontation” with the unarmed 17-year-old led him to shoot in self-defense.

I get a big kick out of all the gun-grabbers in Hollywood. Do you suppose they'd want their bodyguards and security to be disarmed? I've protected several celebrities and I was always carrying a firearm even though I'm a big guy.

Bill Cosby isn’t being anti-gun per se. He’s referring to the Barney Fifes, who get themselves over their heads because they have a gun.

I’ve had to handle sketchies in my time and often telling them that the police are on their way and you are merely keeping an eye on things is very effective in these situations.

I’m sure the rules on Neighborhood Watch vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and perhaps neighborhood to neighborhood. We did NW for 20 years and never carried any kind of weapon. We were a driving NW, just driving around the ‘hood with a NW sign. We were instructed not to even get out of the car, just call the cops to report anything suspicious.

Taking into consideration the tragic death of his son several years ago by a white Ukrainian gunman on the side of a freeway, his anti-gun bias is understandable. While he did not race bait I think he could have focused more on the root causes of black criminality and the over-glorification of it in that society.

Are you aware of what had been happening in the gated apartment complex recently? They had a rash of 8-10 burglaries recently, and an armed home invasion.

You don’t give up your 2A rights to self defense on neighborhood watch. He disengaged trayvon and trayvon re-engaged him and started beating the sh1t out of him. It was a self-defense issue, not a neighborhood watch guy playing police.

Cosby said Zimmerman was not afraid to confront Trayvon but it was Trayvon who confronted Zimmerman. Zimmerman was being cool and trying to talk quietly to the police so Trayvon would not know he was following him. Trayvon realized he was being followed and ran to lose him and then doubled back and confronted him. I know if I were being followed, I would run and duck out and probably call 911. The person would never have a chance to confront me. But it was Trayvon who was not afraid to confront Zimmerman and it was probably because he trusted in his ability to surprise him.

Florida, Texas, Alaska and several other states are de facto pretty much already there. If Trayvon had ever read anything besides Sports Illustrated or Twitter, he might have known that and acted accordingly. I never dated a lady in Mississippi, Alabama or Texas that didn't have a pistol in her purse.

While the Zimmerman/Martin ‘white’ on black killing is covered 24/7 on the MSM with an outpouring of rage and charges of a racial hate crime, where is the concern- where is the rage about the home invasion, torture, beating, rape and murder of the elderly white couple by a gang of feral blacks in Oklahoma just a few weeks ago?

The 90 year old war veteran husband was beaten and his jaw broken. He was shot in the face numerous times with a BB gun and sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The 85 year old partially blind wife was RAPED and then BEATEN TO DEATH.

Can you just imagine the pain, the humiliation, the horror that dear old lady experienced being gang raped by that pack of feral animals?

(the autopsy states she was raped. Don’t think all of these animals didn’t all participate)

And can you imagine the pain, the horror of that dear old husband having to witness this?

There’s a lot more involved here than a home invasion and robbery.

As I said, you’d be surprised how effective just letting people know you’re watching them and the police are on their way can be. Most lowlifes, if they aren’t serious criminals, will often take off, because they don’t usually want to be in the vicinity when the police arrived.

That usually takes care of the majority of them and that’s based on my personal experience. Trayvon, by all accounts, was not a hardcore gang banger. If George has done that one thing, we probably would have has a vert différent outcome.

If Trayvon has then charged George, Zimmerman would have been perfectly justifier in putting three bullets, centre-mass.

I am old but I remember the mischief I did when I was fifteen in my neighborhood that would have got me shot if there had been gun carrying neighborhood watch guys around. It is not necessary for neighborhood watchmen to be armed and they are not all mature enough for that responsibility.

The overwhelming majority of the times that a private citizen is armed, it IS the bad guy that is killed. It will probably ultimately be true in the Trayvon case as well.

When your son stopped to change a flat tire, he was unarmed. The bad guy’s won. How did having him unarmed help anything?
