Does The ‘NBC Editor’ Really Exist? (NBC caught in another lie about the "fired producer"?)
The Other McCain ^ | April 7, 2012 | Smitty

Posted on 04/09/2012 8:09:08 AM PDT by Qbert

Daily- and Instapudit are on about Breitbart’s post concerning the fired NBC editor. Back at Breitbart:

The questions are only just beginning on Editgate. The release of the news of the firing just before the holiday weekend smacks of a cover-up; more than that, we know that the edit itself was not restricted to the Today show. Brian Williams and the brass at NBC News must provide answers. They are responsible for editorial output, not an unnamed producer. And they must be held responsible for an irresponsible and dangerous edit apparently deliberately designed to twist the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman story along racial lines.

NBC really loves them some voodoo editing.

Given their utter lack of forthrightness, both in pushing the initial lie about what Zimmerman said, and now the firing of this un-named editor, we really should ask: does this NBC jackwagon exist, or is NBC just stacking subterfuge upon misdirection?

And, even if this alleged jackwagon is produced, is he going to be fired fired, or just given the Full Imus? By that I mean, sent on what amounts to an extended vacation, and then brought back. In other words, how will the fundamental corruption of NBC be addressed? The good news is that NBC’s perfidy has been exposed short of further tragedy. The bad news is that NBC is bad news.

You've already lied to us once, NBC. Stop with the games, and cough up the name...

Why would they have fired anyone if it was an honest editing mistake caused by "time constraints"?

Isn't that what they blamed it on?

IF that producer was working at NBC studios in NYC, NY, It’s impractical for NBC to release the employee’s name to the public. Opens up NBC and whoever actually releases it to a lawsuit.

A lawyer on the NY State bar can better explain the labor law involved.

NBC has to stay silent and suck up the bad publicity here. They do not want to get sued and have to go through depositions in discovery for a wrongful termination/defamation of character lawsuit in NYC.

PLaintiff will claim BRian Williams directed him to do the edit, NBC would have to put Williams under oath to refute, he said/he said, public records, etc.

If they have actually fired this man, they are bigger idiots than I thought.

When one of your employees makes a monumental screwup that could result in a big liability judgment, you do not, repeat, not, fire him. Ever.

When you do, you guarantee that the lawyers for the person you screwed will be contacting the employee immediately and enlisting him to get revenge on his former employer by giving them inside information and testifying on their behalf in their lawsuit.

You stand by your employee, reassure him, and get his sworn testimony as soon as you can.

Q: How can you tell if a liberal is lying?

A: He/she has a pulse (but even that should be taken with a grain of salt..)

Discovery would produce the guy/gal's name in about 3 minutes.

And if they had actually fired someone we would have learned the name in about 6 hours. Nothing like that could be kept secret.

"IF that producer was working at NBC studios in NYC, NY, It’s impractical for NBC to release the employee’s name to the public. Opens up NBC and whoever actually releases it to a lawsuit."

First, NBC has claimed (consider the source, of course) that the producer was based out of Miami. Second, when Zimmerman inevitably sues NBC, the names of these people are going to come out in discovery, anyways. It's going to look really bad if NBC really didn't take any action here.

Does not seem to have affected CBS when they fired Mapes.

NBC refuses to release the name because they have not fired anyone.

The only thing NBC is accomplishing here is to dig themselves a deeper hole.

Dig Baby Dig is all I have to say.

Great observation. So, that raises the question- was the whole "fired producer" story yet another ruse here?

Zimmerman's attorneys could argue their client was libeled by the information broadcast by NBC. Zimmerman is a private citizen. The editing is clearing intended to harm Zimmerman's reputation. It sounds like a great opportunity for a lawsuit.

The other benefit of a lawsuit is the opportunity for discovery of NBC’s internal documents. Zimmerman's lawyers should be all over this. It is a great opportunity. A giant corporation has lied about and harmed a private citizen. Let NBC keep lying. They are just digging themselves into a deeper hole.

Impractical? How about illegal? This news story libels George Zimmerman, not to mention potentially contributes to his bodily harm. If NBC doesn't release the name, are they not guilty of obstructing justice, or contributing to a crime?

FYI..Mickey Kaus has a fascinating story on at the Daily Caller ( I tried to post a link but it didn't work for me..maybe somebody else can try)

He says that if NBC came out and admitted the truth, that the edit was deliberate, that they would be exposed to a huge judgement for libel..also, that the fired producer could cut a deal with the plaintiff to say that NBC wanted him to edit it that way..to create the racial animus...

Defintiely worth reading..

The fact that NBC doesn’t name the perp tells me there’s no such person.
