DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) The U.S. Navy said Monday it has deployed a second aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf region amid rising tensions with Iran over its disputed nuclear program.

The deployment of the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise along with the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group marks one of the few times the Navy has had two aircraft carriers operating in waters near the Persian Gulf, said Cmdr. Amy Derrick-Frost of the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet.
The two carriers will support the American military operations in Afghanistan and anti-piracy efforts off Somalia's coast and in the Gulf of Aden, she said.

Yes.
Finally, Ive said for years that if more than two carrier groups wind up in the Gulf at the same time, as Saddam found out
6 carrier battle groups in Desert Storm
We can see the SOBs Iranian terrorists long before they launch whatever missiles or aircrafts they have against our ships and once we see them they are immediately dead and destroyed. No other nation on this planet has this immense military advantage, we are the only one.
I find this rather tedious. If you have a point to make why don't you just go ahead and make it in plain language?
If and when you do, this time you might keep in mind my observation at the end of my reply #7:
All of this is rank speculation on my part.
Fifty-two years ago this week, I chose to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, and I am immensely proud of what I did during my hitch. But I have to tell all you sailors out there, that when I see one of the carrier battle groups arrayed in the four corners of the globe, I sort of wish I’d gone a few doors down to the Navy recruiters.
They are there to prevent Israel from attacking Iran. He will order shoot downs of Israeli fighters if it comes to that. The Azerbaijan betrayal proves that.
“I find this rather tedious.”
I bet your namesake never found it rather tedious.
Perhaps that guarantees that Iran will not attempt to sink any carriers. Can’t have their boy lose the election.
If I remember right movement of carriers etc. is unspoken "language" between nation leaders regardless of what they are speaking. "Actions speak louder than words" would seem about right.
So I can see your post right on....all pending how Mambo s numbers play out for the upcoming election. But it does seem he needs something to wramp up his numbers as his record itself isn't going to do it. Also, any race or class wars he's initiated would at least be put on the back burner.
Thank you so very much for your service keeping our ships in tip top shape! I'm sure you do have some heart strings to this baby....I would too!
Sent there to intercept the IAF on their way to Iran—turn back you Jews or be shot down.
The Enterprise is expendable?
I feel as sick as I did on 9-11, having this dreaded feeling we are going into an active war.
The aft one is in about the position where garbage is tossed over the side of the ship but that isn't a garbage barge though or sure doesn't look like one LOL. The forward one looks like it is positioned at the port deck house for loading and unloading personnel. My guess is a contracted ferry ship too shore. The aft one might just be secured waiting for the other too move away. If so dumb idea in the M.E.
The carriers have or did have 7 utility boats capable of transporting 150 - 175 each boat plus two officers boats, the Captains Gig and the Admirals boat. IOW Bosuns and Snipes should be running the ships own boats into shore.
I blew the picture up for a closer look. Unless I'm wrong they are ferry boats {based on seeing boarding ramps} and the aft one looks like possibly the garbage barge is off to the side of it. I don't see contracted ship to shore rides as good policy in any port friend or foe.
That thought crossed my mind, too.
Assassinations, explosions, drone flights into Iran and now a second carrier arrives.
If these Iranian’s don’t do something provacative soon Obama is just going to have to fake it. You can only pull Bin Laden out of a freezer once, Obama needs to strike Iran for a bump in the polls.
It couldn't have been Senator McCain he was captured October 26, 1967 after launching off the USS Oriskany. He was in the Hilton right after the Forestall fire that occurred July 1967 in which he was onboard at the time.
Politically I'm not a McCain fan and far from it. But his actions in that fire were heroic. Some rumors are on the net that his plane launched the rocket that set off the fire. That too is false. His plane was positioned in a manner that made it impossible. I've found the aircraft spotting diagram for when the fire broke out. It couldn't have been him. Nor could he have possibly been onboard at Big E's fire 14 January, 1969.
Sent there to intercept the IAF on their way to Iranturn back you Jews or be shot down.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I agree with your sentiment.
But not ALL of such IAF flights would be intercepted, some would get through.
I think this is exactly what Obama is doing BTW.He has no intention of bombing Iran, but he will act to stop the IAF.
I hope our guys would calmly say to him, "Up yours, Sir!"
My question is—US Navy and Marine airmen are a pretty savvy bunch when it comes to geopolitical issues in the areas of their operations. Will they follow orders from Islamophile Marxist Obama to shoot down the aircraft of one of our closest allies—allies who are only trying to stop the annihilation of their nation through a preemptive strike against a country that lusts heartily for the violent death of not only Israel but our America as well?
Could they come back to the US with that kind of stain on their honor?
You get Groucho’s duck and the fifty bucks for saying the magic word I think. “Provocative “is the operational word. Our Fifth Fleet sailors have been buzzing the Iranian coast for quite some time now. It has to be driving the Mullahs nuts or worse. The coast of Iran is the same length as California’s and that’s a lot of water skiing. Ever since Reagan took out half the Iranian navy they have been grinding an awfully dull axe all over the world with little cheap shots at us. But they’d really love to figure out a way to take a low risk cheap shot close to home-——and by the way I don’t see Obamuzzie getting away with using our naval air to block the Israelis. We train with their guys, we know them, and if anything I think our guys would “miss “and fly along for the ride.
Could they come back to the US with that kind of stain on their honor? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Obama does not think they have any honor. I guess we may find out.

Just want you to know we are all behind you and the Enterprise is going to the Persian Gulf.
All Too Plausible.
Is this legitimate, or is it part of Obama Campaign 2012?
The unthinkable would be loosing one or both of our great ships and crews. I am nervous and praying for our military.
I did not need the translation, and i think too much of made of typos. And with my stiff fingers i make plenty (and speech to text software has far to go). But a browser like Firefox will mark error and provides correction options via right click.
I use OpenOffice a lot which enables you to use autocorrect, so that the next time you misspell the word it will correct it automatically.
Which is why over the course of a multi-month aerial bombing campaign in Yugoslavia in ‘99, American and NATO aircraft equipped with smart bombs wound up blowing up little more than wooden decoy tanks and microwave ovens. By good use of camouflage, decoys, and fake movements and electronic emissions, the Serbs were able to blunt and, for the most part, nullify the effects of NATO air strikes. Assuming that all of America’s enemies are going to be as inept as the Iraqi military seems like the same kind of overconfidence that allowed a Serbian air-defense commander in charge of an antiquated SA-3 SAM battery to down a F-117 stealth fighter.
That was the Millennium Challenge 2002 wargame.
True.
Are you telling them how to attack us? This site is outlandish in that regard.
Would you guys take a break?
Thank you.
“I feel as sick as I did on 9-11, having this dreaded feeling we are going into an active war.”
Me too. Problem is, this one will make 9-11 seem like child’s play! It’s not a matter of “if” but “when!”
And on the day of his re-nomination, he and the Mooch will stand up and announce they will be having another baby. Whether she really is expecting would have nothing to do with it.
That was my first thought also

For those who didn't go to the link CSMUSARET posted, it's a story about a WW2 ship that constantly made major mistakes, up to and including firing a torpedo at the USS Iowa carrying President Roosevelt.
Key items:
_____
Meantime, on the IOWA’s bridge, word of the torpedo firing reached President Roosevelt. he only wanted to see the torpedo and asked that his wheelchair be moved to the railing. His loyal Secret Service bodyguard immediately drew his pistol as if to shoot the torpedo!
The IOWA began evasive maneuvers, yet trained all guns on the William D. Porter. There was now some thought that the W.D. Porter was part of an assassination plot. Within moments of the warning, a thunderous explosion occurred behind the IOWA. The torpedo had been detonated by the wash kicked up by the battleship's increased speed. The crisis was over, and so were some careers. Captain Walter's final utterance to the IOWA was in response to a question about the origin of the torpedo. His answer was a weak, “We did it.”
Shortly thereafter, the new state-of-the-art destroyer, her ambitious captain and seemingly fumbling crew were placed under arrest and sent to Bermuda for trial. it was the first time in the history of the United States Navy that an entire ship and her company had been arrested. The William D. Porter was surrounded by Marines when it docked in Bermuda and was held there for several days as the closed-session inquiry attempted to find out what had happened.
The outcome was delayed for a couple of days until Torpedoman Dawson finally confessed to having inadvertently left the primer in the torpedo tube, which caused the launch. Just after the torpedo left the tube, Dawson had thrown the primer over the side to conceal his mistake. The truth was eventually priced out of him, and the inquiry drew to a close. The whole incident was chalked up to an incredible set of circumstances and placed under a cloak of secrecy.
But what happens to public opinion when the hundreds of jihadis already here strat their contant rain of small scale attackes?
“Iran does not have the necessary assets to sink a Carrier.”
Russia does, and Iran shares a border with her.
What’s ‘Golden Opportunity’ in Russian? Two carriers sunk in the gulf would be that opportunity.
After such a thing, Israel would well and truly be alone. Pax Americana would be at an end.
Thanx for keeping me straight on the E’s dates——I just fixed ‘em and just took them as they came. That whole Veetnam decade is just one date to me. I have an old video, history channel I think, that deals with the ‘69 fire and it clearly mentions that McCain was sitting in a cockpit very close to the missile that cooked off. But I’ve always suspected that the guys doing the story were mixing up details of the Enterprise fire and the Forrestal fire which were very similar circumstances. We didn’t have the complete report yet on the Forrestal incident when the Enterprise lit up so wouldn’t have known who McCain was at the time. Forrestal was repaired at Subic where one of the sailor machinests fell in love with a Flip chick, wanted to stay longer, so he dropped a big crescent into a reduction gear box——delayed them another 60 days. I think he just got out of jail a couple years ago. The E came to Pearl and we were really grateful to the crew for absolutely deep-chucking every single piece of burned/damaged crap on the way so we had a very clean hull to start repairing. The scrap pile we generated in the yard from cutting out damage only filled about two dumpsters.
How many planes does McCain owe us for? 4?
Forestall was the first of it's class and the end of an era. It was the last 600 PSI propulsion for carriers. Saratoga was the first 1200 PSI.
I vaguely remember hearing about the reduction gear incident maybe after basic training. I'm not sure how many planes McCain actually lost. In my 4 years on a carrier I'd put our aircraft loss numbers at about 8-12 and that was 77-80 era. A Tomcat came in low one night hit the round down and broke the landing gear, an S-3 Viking missed first three arresting wires snagged the fourth and went over the side {no survivors}, Two F-14's rolled on the hanger bay during hard list and went nose too nose, about 4 or more A-6's would go out and drop into the water like a brick due to catastrophic engine failures. That's life on the big city.
The Oriskany fire was a little different in origin. It was started by a lit flare being tossed in the flare box. The other two fires Forestall and "E" were missile related off Nam which adds to confusion.
When we got back to port the Old Man made an announcement that the missing airman had been located. It seems that when the Navy sent the couriers to give his mom notice of him missing at sea she said why he's in the living room. He booked a commercial flight home and had a buddy toss his flight deck gear over the side that evening. Now that's LOW!
A lot of stuff goes or or went on back then that never made the news.
I agree. Looks like ferry transports and unless they are specially assigned to the U.S. Navy it seems that bad security is still being practiced by the U.S. Navy.
They are contract ferries easier to get 4000 Sailors ashore without lines...
CVNs only have utility boats, gigs and barges.
Oh, BTW, USS AMERICA 1985-1989....AG1
A boat that size can not fit close enough to the carrier too on or off load is what I'm saying. The flightdeck overhangs out way too far too allow it. Also the hull extends outward the further up you go. An optical illusion kinda like the F-14 fly-by picture off the America.
I've spent a lot of time on those boats tied off on a utility boat at a boat boon. The boats are not at the ship. No way.
Seems like we departed the ship from the stern or starboard side. But, tje shadows.
It is important. Good post.
That's all we had plus the two officer boats. I was on Boat Crew and a Boat Snipe for all of them but the Captains Gig and Admirals Barge LOL. We ran 7 UB's {50'} 2 PB's 35'? {officers boats simular to Captains Gig but front and rear hard covered cabins} the Admirals barge and the Gig. In my four years we only berthed at two piers besides N.O.B. or the yards. One place was Mayport {still a USN NOB} and in France once but we had to stay steaming. We never had contracted rides.
