That’s alright. We tax payers should pay for her lack of traveling, along with your daughters and all the family and all the security it takes.

We wouldn’t want her to feel under-privileged.

This should come with a Volcanic BARF Alert. Although, any article about the struggles of Barry & Mooch carries an implied Barf Alert.

So the 0blahblahs had to scrimp by on a measly $479,062/year. My God, just like Ma & Pa Joad, they had to leave the barren wasteland of Chicago , where Barry was barely scratching out a living organizing, and move to the land of milk and honey in DC.

Maybe we can call this one the Grapes of Trash

Couldn't afford to stay home with their kids? Or didn't want to? What was the Obama's cocaine budget? How much did they give to Rev. Wright's church?

I'm willing to bet those two line items alone would have gotten them a first class nanny with $$ to spare.

FWIW, when my daughter was working for a first class nanny agency, she was racking up more frequent flier miles to the Chicago, New York and Bay Areas just interviewing for various jobs than I was working in international business.

Her job was SO important, and she was SO uniquely qualified for her hospital job that to this very day, they have not been able to fill her rather large shoes. The quid for the pro quo was a job for her in exchange for state funding from him. Welcome to Ill-Annoy, where the secret handshake has something to do with cash crossing one’s palm. The dirty politics have been successfully transplanted to the White Crib. There is always a quid for the pro quo.

That 317K moochelle made in one year, would have lasted 15 years for me. I did the math. Granted if I had two kids, that amount may have lasted maybe 5 years.

Nope, no pity from me.

And yet, somehow,I have managed to be a stay at home mom for my hubby’s entire military career. And...um...let me tell you, he makes far less than $160,000 a year...and for the past 3 years we’ve been in the DC metro. I wonder how we manage to survive!!! Oh right, no wagyu and lobster parties, no elegant vacations, no Hawaiian Christmas adventures...and darn it, my shoes usually come from Target.
They had it sooooo bad, I feel soooooo sorry for them. I should totally vote for them so I can help dear Queen Michelle continue to stay at home (occasionally) with her kids. Even though another 4 years of them might make it so that I have to get a job, just so that we can eat. NOT

With all due respect, Mr. President, it’s not about “luxury”, it’s about “priority”.

My wife stayed home and raised our children no matter how little money I made to ensure that they didn’t grow up to believe that gov’t was the solution to any of their problems.

My children put their trust in God, hard work, and family. They see their parents as the ultimate authority in their lives, and they see God as the ultimate authority in their parent’s lives.

They know that they will be held accountable for their actions in this life or in the next and they would like to be able to reap the benefits of their hard work and good behavior and not be forced to subsidize the poor judgment and slothfullness of others.

“And then there is the woman who once advised me at the law firm in Chicago where we met,” Obama said of his wife in his Friday talk. “Once she gave me very good advice. That's why I decided to marry her. And once Michelle and I had our girls, she gave it her all to balance raising a family and pursuing a career--and something that could be very difficult on her, because I was gone a lot.

“Once I was in the state legislature, I was teaching, I was practicing law, I'd be traveling,” he said. “And we didn't have the luxury for her not to work.

He's such a bald-faced liar. If you can't make it on $160K, putting you between the top 12% and the top 3% of income earners according to the IRS, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.

On her income alone they were the Top 1%.

Not mention the fact that being a Senator has many perks and benefits. $162k goes a lot farther for a Senator than for an average Joe (not that many average Joes make $162k a year.

Michelle only had the $300K job for the two years Barack was in the Senate/running for president. Not that point-of-access-to-hubby had anything to do with it.

The real family finance calculation would take her (much lower) income while he was a state rep. No, they weren’t rich. They were comfortably upper middle class, but I’m sure Barack’s anguish over the price of argula was not feigned.

Michelle Obama was paid $316,962 to handle community affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center.

From what I gather, that position no longer exists. Wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a job listing like that until she needed to make a ton of loot (or get out of the house).

I can understand women who WANT to work even if their husband has a six-figure income, but really... “could not afford” for her not to work.

It is true that people can have financial struggles no matter how much they make because you can always spend more than you make. But a person who simply cannot make it on a low six-figure income doesn’t know how to manage money AND definitely should not be in charge of the world’s largest economy.
