What makes anyone think Milt will make a bold choice in anything?
One word....Condi.
This VP game won’t work a second time anyway.
This is a train destined for a wreck. How conservative does the VP have to be to make voting for a liberal more agreeable?
Frankly I can't think of anyone talented enough.
It must be someone who doesn’t have to briefed on the issues. It must be someone who is extremely well versed in both foreign and economic policy. It must be someone who can best articulate the conservative agenda and be the attack dog against Pres. Obama and his failed policies. It must be someone who has PRODUCED substantive legislation. IMO, Cong. Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan should be given serious consideration. He would be, by far, the smartest, most well versed candidate on either ticket.
I can actually see that happening.
It would take “race” off the table.....
Not to mention putting the lie to the “GOP war on women””?

To me Paul Ryan is the obvious choice and Bobby Jindal is the bold choice.

Sorry, McCotter is a union tool that sponsored and voted for Card Check. In an election cycle where union collective bargaining issues are front and center (particularly in the states), a pro-union guy like McCotter is an absolute non-starter. There is a reason his presidential effort went exactly nowhere.
Agreed. Both are probably high on the list. My guess is Ryan is probably more likely because he might put Wisconsin in play. We are already likely to win Louisiana which makes Jindal less important.
Nikki Haley and Marco Rubio are both probably good options as well (especially Rubio). Some are saying Portman in Ohio, but he strikes me as a very uninspiring choice.
Jindal won’t get it because he didn’t bow down and kiss the GOPe’s feet like the rest of them. Frankly, Jindal is my favorite one out there and I don’t even want him to get it. He should stay clear of this train wreck.
Tell the Republicans to vote for another liberal and promise them a tough guy for VP...

Been waiting for you to chime in. How’d your candidate do and how comfortable are you with Romney? The bottom line is that McCotter is better versed in poicy than ANY of the proposed VP’s. Oh yeah.....did you have a problem with Reagan being the PRESIDENT of a union?

There is NOT ONE VP PICK, no matter how conservative or brilliant, that will somehow make Romney electable.

My first choice was Perry till it became clear he didn't have the communication skills for a national campaign, and Newt, my second choice, obviously didn't make it either.
Romney sucks, but it is what it is. He's the nominee and there isn't anything we can do about it now. At the end of the day, I'm ABO.
Yes, Reagan was the president of the SAG, but he was certainly no friend of labor unions by the time he ran for President. Right now the issue of out of control collective bargaining agreements is front and center. Conservatives are trying to break the alliance between government unions and the Democrat party. Now is not the time to nominate a pro union guy for VP - especially not one that supported something as odious as Card Check.
A pro-choice defender of Obama policies whose sexual orientation is at the very least questionable. Yeah, that's the ticket.

But Reagan attracted union voters, the so called Reagan Democrats. Look, we went through this when Cong. McCotter was a candidate. You HATE unions. I get it. McCotter explained his card check vote, and declared it a mistake. So what’s the problem with putting someone on the ticket that might attract these voters.
And Rick Perry? A nice guy and a good American, but he could NEVER get up to snuff on policy issues to enagage in a far reaching debate. McCotter would DESTROY any Democrat in a debate and he could operate as the attack dog.

You need to read what I wrote. While I didn’t support McCotter, it was because he’s an unknown. Aside from that I agree with you.
How can anybody get excited here for a person who will spend four years doing state funerals while Willard runs wild on our personal liberties?

I have never seen such sissy poltical correct men running the party in my entire life. Maybe they can call it a new name.
I was not going to vote for McPain for any reason. But when he brought Sarah onboard, I voted for HER. I am sure many FReepers feel the same way. Maybe Romney can win us over by picking someone like her. I mean, is he really that much worse than McPain?
Don't get me wrong, there is no way in HELL I am voting for him. I don't need to, since I live in Idaho, the deepest of the deep red states - the Republican is guaranteed Idaho, regardless of how many real conservatives decide not to vote because Romney is the nominee.
Point being, I am going to sit this one out unless he picks someone that at least aproximates Sarah.
I am totally indifferent to Romney’s VP pick, if he is the GOP nominee. I will be writing in Palin/West, DeMint/Bachmann, Perry/Cain, or some other pairing of acceptable options that the GOP leadership stifled because it’s Romney’s turn. Obama will carry my state in any case, but I’m not convinced that a socialist who hates America is much worse than a big government liberal who doesn’t hate America but also doesn’t understand limited government or personal freedom. Congress will set the limits on how much damage either of them does to our country, and I’m not convinced there’s a dime’s worth of difference in the long run between the exceptionally grave damage that Obama will want to inflict on our country and the significant damage that Romney will inflict because of his sincere belief that government makes everything better.

that if you are going for a younger VP pick you should
recruit someone who has the ‘fire in the belly’ to run
for the top spot after two terms as veep. Not to confi-
dent that Rice will ever attain that level of desire.

I think Condi is someone Romney would like. Others might include Michael Steele, Lindsay Graham, or John Huntsman.
I was answering a previous post. What really hurt McCotter was that he was shut out of the debates. They cited poll results for inclusion, yet refused to include him in the polls. I was at the Young Republican Straw Poll this past summer, where he placed third behind Romney and Ron Paul, yet they still wouldn’t include him. IMO, a hip policy wonk with a dry and cutting wit would be the perfect compliment to Romney, who is right out of central casting.
