Egypt Court Suspends Constitutional Assembly

An Egyptian court has suspended an Islamist-dominated panel that has the job of rewriting the country's constitution.

The ruling issued Tuesday follows complaints from lawyers and liberal political parties who say the Islamist majority in the new parliament abused its powers by allocating a majority of the panel's seats to themselves and like-minded individuals.

Many liberal and leftist party members had already withdrawn from the 100-member panel in protest of Islamist attempts to dominate the process. Forging a new constitution is a crucial step in Egypt's attempts to form a new government.

A key goal of Egypt's new charter is to define the balance of power between the Islamist-dominated parliament and the post of president, formerly held by Hosni Mubarak until a popular uprising toppled him last year.

Expect more bloodshed because of this. I recall the Egyptian folks in the US swearing that this was not going to happen. Anyone saying that Egypt was going to go this route was a paranoid far right winger.

Funny how those folks seem to have disappeared.

No shiite. With a bunch of ignorant, blood thirsty, sexually frustrated and deprived islamic maniacs driving events, what else is there to expect? Another hellhole being created for themselves.

How odd. An Egyptian court seems to think the Muslim Brotherhood is more of a threat than the impostor who is President of the United States, who only last week was feting Brotherhood representatives around Washington, and telling the palace eunuch media what a bunch of swell guys they are.

But remember: Zero is not a Muslim. He just wants Muslim fanatics to rule Egypt. And what could go wrong with that?
