Mike Wallace' CBS Documentary - The Homosexuals (1967)
CBS Reports ^ | March 7, 1967 | Mike Wallace

Posted on 04/11/2012 1:10:11 AM PDT by iowamark

"The Homosexuals" is a 1967 episode of the documentary television series CBS Reports. The hour-long broadcast featured a discussion of a number of topics related to homosexuality and homosexuals. Mike Wallace anchored the episode, which aired on March 7, 1967. Although this was the first network documentary dealing with the topic of homosexuality, it was not the first televised in the United States. That was The Rejected, produced and aired in 1961 on KQED, a public television station out of San Francisco.

Three years in the making, "The Homosexuals" went through two producers and multiple revisions. The episode included interviews with several gay men, psychiatrists, legal experts and cultural critics, interspersed with footage of a gay bar and a police sex sting. "The Homosexuals" garnered mixed critical response. The network received praise from some quarters and criticism from others for even airing the program.

It is interesting to see the way that the elite perspective on homosexuality has changed in recent years. In 1967 it was an illness, today it is heroic to the Left.

Wallace said he was ashamed of it in the 90’s or else he would have been lynched by the Velvet Mafia.

Paul Harvey predicted this in 1965. Wow did he nail it. Amazing prediction.

Is uncle so and so gay? (me, teenager, 1980’s)

My dad: He says no, but I hear his boyfriend is.

Our family never pushed him away, but he told his mother he couldn't be around the family not because we didn't understand, but because he felt like he couldn't help himself and he didn't even think it was right.

So I watched the documentary. Of course Gore Vidal was dragged out from somewhere. I also found it interesting how they were talking about the fashion industry and how it was dominated by gay men who were attempting to change the typical runway model into a more male like, almost prepubescent form for their fashion shows—and in many ways that has happened, models are anorexically slim, no curves, and flat chested. Not all but a lot of the big name gay designers run way models are. And here it was predicted in the 1960’s.

I also noticed how even the gay men (most of them) identified their homosexuality as inherently promiscuous. Now they try to cover up this well established fact, although maybe a small percentage may remain monogamous.

And although not mentioned, the ideas of NAMBLA were part of the initial gay rights movement. These ideas were removed from the "demands" of the gay rights community when it was seen that they could make more strides into mainstream America by removing such an abhorrent point of view, although some believers still exist. Although they didn't come right out and say it, there was, to me, an implied theory that gay men were victims of child abuse at an early age. This is just anecdotal evidence but when I worked where there were many gay people, I did get to know many on a personal level and many shared with me stories of abuse. And as a Catholic, I think many of the Priest/pedophilia scandals began because gay men trying to hide their true identity tried "hiding out" in the Priesthood, basically infiltrating the church when Priests were needed. They could not over come their tendencies and disease in the constant presents of young boys. I have worked with, went to college with, and made friends with many gay people. I told them outright I didn't understand their lifestyle. I think we could be friendly because either side held nothing back. "Alternative lifestyles" make some people think they are hip, cool and more sophisticated then the rest of us. That doesn't make it right.

Not only promiscuous, but with strangers; cops who deal with them in rest stop busts are sickened by 1) what they do to each other, and 2) how little each “pair” knows about each other.

No kidding. I spend yesterday trying to figure out why people would do things that wreck careers and put them on the sexual predator list, like this bunch just a week ago. I just cannot figure it out.

Fags have ruined many good state parks and deer season with their vile behavior. A local state park closed several entrances which provided great access to hunting spots due to homos meeting there to have random anonymous sex.

I often see them trolling the park while I’m out running, just recently I bought a running holster for my Ruger LCP.

It sure is nice to see “old journalism”, which didn’t have an agenda (at least in this case).

Well you must remember that was back in the good-old-days right after Camelot and in the middle of the Great Society of LBJ. Ah, yes those were the days.

Conservatives should eschew the word “gay” as a description for these disturbed individuals and, instead, always employ the accurate term “homosexual”. “Gay” used to be a fine word describing someone or something that is happy and carefree. This hardly pertains to homosexuals. As they do with everything that is good and true, they have perverted its meaning.

In polite society, I use the word, "homosexual", any other time, I refer to them as "queers". If what they do isn't queer, I don't know what is.

Also some people are plain lazy, it’s easier to say or type the word “gay” than the five syllable word, “homosexual”.

The word “gay” now means only homosexual. It is not a double meaning type of word depending on context. It is never used today to mean carefree and happy.

Reminds me, at Christmastime, I attended a Christmas concert at a school. The kids sang a jazzed up version of “Deck the Halls”, in which the line about “gay apparel” was taken out. I assume that the school didn’t want the kids singing about “gay apparel”.

The homosexual community considers the word homosexual to be an outdated term nowadays. They prefer to be considered “gay”. Just saying.............

Just as nobody says Negro anymore to refer to that group of people, we’re not supposed to say homosexual to refer to that particular group.

You mean like the pro-abortionists did with "choice"??

Of course, such tactics are straight out of the Left's playbook:
