Tombstone, Arizona is ground zero for state sovereignty
Goldwater Institute ^ | April 11, 2012 | Nick Dranias

In a showdown between the Obama Administration and the “Town Too Tough to Die,” the U.S. Forest Service is refusing to allow the City of Tombstone to repair its mountain spring water infrastructure after the 2011 Monument Fire destroyed pipelines and catchments.

Despite Gov. Jan Brewer’s declared state of emergency to empower Tombstone to restore its municipal water supply, the feds continue to block Tombstone, citing the Wilderness Act, which was passed decades after Tombstone secured the water rights. The Forest Service's decision risks the lives and properties of Tombstone residents and tourists due to the loss of adequate fire suppression capabilities and safe drinking water.

This is a case of egregious federal overreach. If the Forest Service can effectively seize Tombstone’s 130-year-old water rights during a state of emergency — rights that the Service recognized as valid in 1916 — no state or local government will be safe from the feds. That’s why the Goldwater Institute recently filed for a preliminary injunction to restore Tombstone’s sovereign power to restore its municipal water supply.

There is plenty of reason to believe that Tombstone will ultimately prevail...

The commie Kenyan has lots of federal troops nearby in Bisbee, Douglas, Sierra Vista, and Fort Huachuca, AZ. Don’t expect the anti-Christ to take being resisted.

Seriously. If anyone has contact info for Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, et al., maybe we could get them to shine some light on this craziness.

That is the answer. Declare it to be an emergency,,, and begin the work. Notify the Feds that any federal agents that attempt to interfere with the work will be immediately arrested. Have enough local law enforcement muscle there to make it credible.
Like any bully, they don’t ACTUALLY want the fight. The Feds gets a long way on threats,,, but they cannot function long without state cooperation.
This was even true in the old west. US Marshals had no jails of their own. Federal prisons were unheard of distances away.
They counted on maintaining cordial relations with the local Sheriff. Thats a historic fact.
Time to remind them.

Didn’t I just read, in a nearby thread, that Arizona has proposed a law giving the county sheriff the power to determine Constitutional compliance? To wit, the feds need the sheriff’s approval before they can do nearly anything?

Get that law passed ... PRONTO!

I hate to point this out, but Jan has turned out to be a complete wuss.

George Wallace proved that we were no longer a Republic made up of Sovereign States.

When I visited Tombstone five years ago, a lot of the shopkeepers had six-guns strapped to their waists. I guess they don’t need Earp now.

It did pass, should be signed by Brewer any day.

After that, it’s showtime.

He hightailed it to Ca. Because there was a warrant for his arrest in AZ.

Agreed they should have the local sheriff form a posse if the feds give em any trouble. That water belongs to tombstone and they need it to survive. Feds ain’t got no right to take a populations water supply, particular a population out in the middle of the desert.
