Mayor Bloomberg is launching a campaign to overturn "stand your ground" laws around the nation, such as the one in Florida that led to the controversial shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Bloomberg has scheduled a press conference this afternoon in Washington with the Rev. Al Sharpton, the NAACP, the National Urban League and other groups to announce the initiative...

I bet if Bloomberg had a gun pointed to his head he’d wished he had a gun. Ahh the nanny state, let’s beg the robber “Please don’t kill me, pretty please with sugar on top and a cherry”

And so it begins. As states like Cali release violent thugs into our streets, and the Feds refuse to enforce illegal immigration laws, we now have pols wanting to take away the law abiding (especially if you’re not brown) rights to defend yourself.

No? Ok, then I’ll just ask you to kindly f*ck off back to your island, Bloomers.

Um, Bloomberg, last time I checked your skin color was not only white but also ethnically hated by your civilized New Black Panther Party.

Oh, that’s right, you have “security”.

When seconds count the police are just minutes away to type up a report over my now dead body.

You took away our french fries and cookies.

If I could afford it, I’d start purchasing and mailing pistols all over NYC with Bloombergs return address on them. Just random addresses to nowhere.

Or maybe we could start handing guns to homeless people so they could defend themselves in their own homes.

Good, I hope they try it. Nothing would fire up gun owners more. It will be the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban all over again, democrats will be dropping like flies at the local, state and national level in every red state across the nation.

Won’t the repeal of these laws make it EASIER to attack black people?

Isn’t it brilliant to repeal a law based on a case in which it apparently won’t prevent a prosecution? /s

Why doesn’t he just try and pass a law that says— if you’re non black and a black person attacks you, you are at fault and can in no way defend yourself.

Because that is where we are right now as a country.

Says a limousine liberal that has armed body guards the law says the public must obey. The ignorant liberal is about to find out that only the liberal Eastern States have such laws because they started with “You must run from criminals or else” laws that no Western States ever had.

As usual, Bloomberg not only sees fit to butt in where things are none of his business as mayor, but he's also as wrong as could be.

You see, "stand your ground" laws have NOTHING to do with the Zimmerman/Martin situation. "Stand your ground" laws stand for the proposition that you have a right to proactively defend yourself in a defined area, with no requirement to retreat. Almost always, one's home is such an area (hence the alternative term "Castle Doctrine"). Sometimes, Texas being one example, you can defend yourself in your car (a mobile castle, if you will) or wherever you have a legal right to be at a particular point in time. This case involved no such thing - Zimmerman shot Martin (and his claim is backed up by witnesses and the police report) AFTER MARTIN PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED HIM and was threatening his life by repeatedly banging the back of his head against the sidewalk - much longer, and Zimmerman would have been unconscious and soon thereafter dead. The legality of Zimmerman's actions from the moment he was attacked until he pulled the trigger are pretty much beyond question in ANY jurisdiction in this country - he COULDN'T retreat, he was under ACTIVE, LIFE-THREATENING ATTACK. This was about as pure of case of self-defense as we're likely to have in the public eye for some time.

Bloomberg, or anyone else, arguing that this is because of "stand your ground/Castle Doctrine" laws is being disingenuous AT BEST - and, in all likelihood, is stating a flat-out lie with the intent of diminishing the rights of potential victims for the purpose of scoring political points. FUMB!

This initiative will of course be warmly supported in Texas and S. Carolina.

If the state legislators won’t go along with the repeal, and we can’t get it introduced as a ballot initiative, we’ll just cry havoc and let slip the lawyers of civil war.

He is an anti-American commissar who knows that while he may have had his way overturning term limits for his Bolshevik toilet on the Hudson River, he has NO CHANCE of winning anything nationally. Rather than accept this, he preaches to “flyover country” from behind his well-armed security detail (in his well-armed police state).

Bloomberg to push to overturn 'stand your ground' laws nationwide

This is going to push us toward becoming Britain. Today in Britain, it is illegal for anyone to defend themselves or their property and those who have are now serving prison sentences.

I'm not kidding! You cannot defend yourself or your property from thieves or murderers in Britain. And, Bloomberg wants to bring this here.

Have we had enough of liberalism, yet, or do we need even MORE proof that it is a recipe for idiots and disaster!!???
