MIAMI (CBSMiami) – George Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, according to the Associated Press.
Additionally, Zimmerman has been taken into custody, but it hasn’t been revealed where he is being held.
CBSMiami has confirmed that State Attorney Angela Corey, who was appointed as a special prosecutor in the case, will hold an announcement about the charges at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville.

Penalties for Second Degree Murder
The crime of Second Degree Murder is classified as a First Degree Felony and is assigned a Level 10 offense severity ranking under Florida’s Criminal Punishment Code.
If convicted of Second Degree Murder, a judge is required to impose a minimum prison sentence of 16¾ years in prison and can impose any additional combination of the following penalties:
Up to Life in prison.
Up to Life on probation.
Up to $10,000 in fines.
Show trial. Any decent lawyer can get this guy off at the jury selection stage.
If you live anywhere near the area, be sure your fire insurance is paid up in the event things don't go the mob's way.

I’m not a legal expert, so here’s my question:
If Zimmerman is charged with 2nd-degree murder, can a jury still decide to find him guilty of a lesser charge such as manslaughter?
It is and at some point he will likely be pressured to take a plea to manslaughter. That is if he lasts that long without being murdered.

Well the jury must have some “white-hispanics” otherwise Zimmerman is not being judged by a jury of HIS peers.
The Justice Brothers won’t be happy about this. They were hoping for no charges to keep their act going.

This reminds me of the Bernie Goetz case that Sharpton also ballooned up for money: Goetz eventually went to jail and was ordered to pay $42 MILLION to one of the punks who tried to stick a screwdriver into his head.

A charge of Murder goes to “intent” and I don’t see it.

(not an attorney either) I believe it has to be presented to the jury as an option at trial.
I heard on local radio that one such angle for law enforcement is to overcharge and hope for a plea deal on a lower charge and confession of guilt... God help Sanford if it goes to court and Z is acquitted.

Hey think of it this way:
The good news is two things:
1. All the evidence will come out.
2. All the evidence will come out.
But have no doubt they will have a 90% black jury and he will be convicted.
But, if manslaughter is on the list of charges, you can be not guilty for 2nd-degree murder, but guilty of manslaughter.
We can hope that Zimmerman actually lives long enough to see a court trial. Once the evidence is introduced, even a jury of ignoramuses would see that Zimmerman was defending himself from the beating that Trayvon was giving him.
However, IF he ends up being acquitted (which he should be) there will be riots across the country that he should have been convicted. Black “yutes” will riot, loot businesses, burn cars and buildings, injure or kill anyone who gets in their way a la the Muslim “yutes” in France.
At this point, Holder and the biased DOJ will step in and charge him with a civil rights violation on manufactured evidence that will get Zimmerman thrown in jail for life + 2 billion years with no chance of parole!!
Thank God we’re a free country with a Constitution that guarantees our rights!

My wife and I watched this self-assured arrogant pig of a special prosecutor sing Al Sharpton’s tune, it was disgusting. Based on the black victim mentality and support of it from Obama and Holder, I would think twice about calling the police. Pick up your brass and walk away.
I assume manslaughter will be a lesser included offense.
This is the first step in the grand design of the upcoming mau mau campaign, inspired by obama and used to such great effect by his cousin odinga in the kenyan Presidential election.
They want all those racist, Honkey Crackers to think twice before committing the hate crime of RWW (Resisting While White).
The FL state attorney didn’t let the grand jury have a look because they would have taken one look at it and thrown it out because it was so obvious that it was self-defense.
She gets to control this political show trial and will try and do the lynching herself. If she wants to advance in her career this will give her more face time in the spotlight.
This is supposed to be a government of laws, not of men. The people who joined this lynch mob are disgusting garbage, and I include these prosecutors in that category.
