Ann Coulter: FIGHTING THE LAST WAR

FIGHTING THE LAST WAR

April 11, 2012
In a fast-changing world, a common mistake is to keep fighting the last war.

For example, why would Republicans support sending more troops to Afghanistan, when that war was long over, or helping topple Moammar Gadhafi, who had become an ally in the war on terrorism? Some Republicans seem to support all military deployments just out of habit.

For years after the 9/11 terrorist attack on America, Democrats hysterically bemoaned any military action, especially in Iraq. They claimed to have many precious objections, but the truth was, they thought we deserved the attack -- or at best, both sides were at fault.

So when it came to Obama's pointlessly sending more troops to Afghanistan or foolishly intervening in Libya, some Republicans' first instinct was to demand muscular American military action, forgetting that we are the party that cares about American national security and does not fling troops around the globe just to look tough, as the Democrats do.

Republicans who supported sending more troops to Afghanistan and taking out Gadhafi were fighting the last war.

Similarly, sometimes it seems as if Republicans' only move on the economy is to cut taxes. With the highest corporate tax rate in the world, there's much to be said for cutting taxes. But, unlike when Reagan ran for president, it's going to take a lot more than tax cuts to rescue this country from its $16 trillion debt.

When Reagan took office, the top marginal tax rate in this country was a staggering 70 percent. Lowering that to 28 percent was an enormous shot in the arm to the economy.

Cutting the top tax rate today from 35 percent to 30 percent -- or even 20 percent -- cannot possibly have the same dramatic effect. Republicans, as the only responsible party, are going to have to do something that's never been tried before in Washington: Cut government spending.

To keep prattling about cutting taxes, rather than cutting our behemoth, useless government is fighting the last war.

"Liberal Republicans always lose."
Which is why Romney can't win against Obama.

But Coulter says:

"Romney stands a good chance of beating Obama this fall."
She does get it right in the next quote, but denies it will be true:
'Romney's victory will go into the "Liberal Wins" column.'
If you, the MSM, the GOP-e and Karl Rove and his minions are right, just wait and see. The flip flop foot prints will be all over each of you.

Romney will be a president of change. Same ol' same 'ol. Obama lite.

Hey Ann, when does your next book come out? So I can snub it.

Coulter is just another political hump in the road to be overcome.

No, Ann, Romney will not win against Obama because he is “less liberal” than John McCain ever was.

Romney actually has to RUN for the office, to show how he is different from Obama, and tell people he would reverse or negate just about ALL the policies Obama has put in place.

Not just how he might make things “work better”.

Clearly, we need somebody who will clearly delineate the flaws in Obama’s thinking, then once in office DEMOLISH the effects of that thinking.

Sorry, Coulter. Don’t read you no more, don’t listen to you no more, and don’t watch you on tv no more.

You can politely go to hell. Hey, maybe Obummer will give you a cabinet position after Mittens get slaughtered in November.

Again, Coulter, go to hell.

Ha! Ann is stepping into her new role as advanced scout for Mitt’s policy positions. She smokes out the terrain ahead far enough in advance for Mitt to see what issues look good and what don’t.

You watch. She might not even write a followup to this one. But her next topic will probably be another trial balloon.

This is her payoff for carrying the torch in the early primaries.

Look, who else came forward to run? They had pawlenty of time to do it. Christie, Jeb, Mitch, even Donald, Fred, Sarah, all gave the longest primary in history a pass. Mittens has been through the wringer and he never faltered, tired or failed. In spite of some of his “helper’s” best efforts, he’s what we’ve got, from a far more legitimate primary process than in 2008. I think with a Republican House and Senate, he’ll be FanTasTic. He isn’t going to be any worse than W and his obtuseness which we tolerated for 8 years. Fighting the African-centered Liberation Theologist with the giant chip on his shoulder now, is job one.

“Liberal Republicans always lose.”
“Which is why Romney can’t win against Obama.”

Amen, plus could he really be an improvement over Obama in the long term? I don’t think so.

Syncro - the following soapbox speech is NOT directed at you:

This is Free Republic, the home of the Conservative Revolution to overthrow a tyranical establishment republican oligarchy. It is time to let conservatives run the party and ensure conservatives represent the party. NO MORE BACK OF THE BUS IN THE GOP FOR CONSERVATIVES. We are the true solid base of the party and it is TIME FOR OUR VOICE TO BE HEARD AND FOLLOWED. Candidates like Romney shouldn’t even be allowed to run....They definitely shouldn’t be allowed to buy an election. So, NO SUPPORT FOR ROMNEY OR THOSE THAT GIVE HIM AID OR COMFORT. No prisoners in this revolution and no quarter. The black flag has been raised. Jim Robinson will go down in history as the man that fired the second shot heard around the world when he declared “NO ROMNEY.” The second American Revolution has begun. It is about the heart and soul of the GOP and the American public. There will be no blood shed in this revolution, but there will be political casualties....Romney is the first to go down.

Anne Coulter, et. Al. continue to support him at your own risk. You had better “count the cost.”

Ann has made a conscience decision that she will politically and financially regret for a very, very long time.

“Did I tell you I met him at a fundraiser?” Coulter said. “I went up to him. I was about to leave. But I said — I just wanted to go up to him and tell him, ‘You owe me and you better be as right-wing a president as I’m telling everybody you’re going to be.’ "

Jim, we have another candidate for zotting here. He has referred to your post about “No Romney” (I cleaned it up a bit) being a “fart” when I compared it to a “shot heard around the world.”

I don’t think he likes the take down the GOP Establishment Revolution brewing here?

Sorry to have bothered you. You got him before I could report him! Well done sir!

I know my oratory my be a little extreme. But I am going to continue to call what happened here yesterday, “the Second Shot heard around the world.” It is not a shooting war, but it is a revolution. It started here!

No one of us wants to suppress honest disagreement. But, goodness, the insults towards the “revolutionary revolt” against the GOP establishment cannot be tolerated on this forum. I think, that folks either get on board, be very respectful in there disagreement, or go elsewhere.

Although I didn’t say he’d be better than W, just no worse, I’ve reconsidered and I concede that he may well be worse in some ways. However, W was infuriating with the way he rolled on immigration, NCLB BS, Part D, and would never veto spending bills, and had that quisling as press secretary who would never fight back, and spent too much GOP capital on the wars, with weak rhetoric and justifications, letting the Wilson/Plame debacle drag on for years, all of which which led to devastating defeats in 2006 and 8, and thus Obamacare. In any case Mitt beats the hell out of BO, the African-centered Liberation Theologist agitator with the giant chip on his America-transforming shoulder.

But I’m once bitten twice shy. Heck, multiply that.

If Mitt does the same, what truly is the difference? I just don’t get the confidence I need to believe he would do anything strong enough to stop this madness.

While I don’t think Bush wasted capital on the wars, I agree his reasons were badly stated as well as the implementation of the aftermath. Bremer in Iraq? What a joke. Not a position at the time for a frat house committee chairman.

But his daddy wasn’t much better letting Colin Powell advise him to take it easy on Saddam at the end and giving them offensive weapons (helicopters) for “humanitarian reasons”.

I forgot about the Wilson/Plame crap and you are correct. Badly handled and he let good people be treated unfairly for no reason. That’s Rove for you.

I know 0 is the worse, but at least we had Reagan in 1980. Mitt isn’t even up to one tenth of that. He’ll be a middle of the road president that will start off on the defensive with every petty attack the Dems will make.

They took down Bush 41 just like that and I don’t think Mitt will fight.
