Mitt Romney 2012 = John Kerry 2004?
Washington Post ^

Political reporters — all of whom are history nerds at heart — spend countless hours trying to figure out which past election the current elections most reminds them of.

It’s part parlor game — you usually win when you compare the current election to the most obscure election of the past possible (this reminds me of the 1876 election between Samuel Tilden and Rutherford B. Hayes) — and part useful political analysis. While no two elections are ever exactly the same, there are elections whose dynamics clearly resemble one another and where studying what happened can help you understand what will happen...

I don’t remember Romney saying our troops were killing woman and children in a manner reminiscent of Ghengis Kahn. Or as Kerry said it, Jen-gis Khan.

Nor do I remember Bush saying that "Jesus was a son of God".

Does not mean Romney is not a flip flopper though.

Romney is a flip-flopping compulsive liar and blowhard just like Kerry. will say anything to get elected. Doesn’t seem to mind when caught in a lie, he simply tells more lies to cover up. Has no core values whatsoever. His blows with the wind. Sucks, actually. At least Kerry didn’t dodge the draft. Lied about his service though.

Clearly a huge difference is that Bush while not a great President was not a total failure like Obama is, the better comparison is to 1980 and the Carter reelection, while Romney is no Reagan, ultimatly re election campaigns are about the incumbent and that is the underlying fear of the lefties this year. It is also why Obama is trying to run as an outsider with the class warfare fear based campaign.

John McCain is pro-life (so is Sarah Palin for that matter)

As much as I dislike the man, John McCain is more conservative than Mitt Romney.

Might as well have Mayor Bloomberg in the WH

And that's the part that will lose him the independents. A strict conservative would win over more independents and Reagan democrats than Romney will. Some would prefer a disaster in the White House they already know over a flip-flopping fake who lies to your face with clear evidence out there proving that he's lying to your face. People don't like to be insulted right to their face. That's Romney.

I'm still hoping and praying for Newt.

Romney is a flip flopping fraud who has no core principles. He is a Blue Blood pandering liberal who was against most Conservative Principles before he was for them. Whenever Romney tries to “act” like one of the “regular folks” he comes off as a dork. I think this is the perfect comparison.

Romney is no Reagan

You got that right. And he's proud of it too. THAT is on video.

Carter is no Obama neither. Obama is one slippery dude.

Mitt Romney is our version of John Kerry

I wouldn`t agree there`s a comparison between the two candidacies. Kerry`s `04 run almost produced a victory vs. Bush, while Romney won`t even be in the same ballpark. Obama will slice through him like a hot knife through warm butter on a summer day.

Romney generates no excitement and has no base of support. Bob Dole in `96 at least had veterans backing him. Who really gets revved up about Mittens? November`s result is going to resemble more like the LBJ-Goldwater blowout — with Mittens on the short end — than any of the recent close elections.

It`s Virgil Goode and the Constitution Party for this voter!

Kerry was a traitor during Vietnam days.. he is merely a gigolo now.. and a seditious malefactor..

Romney is merely a liberal drooler from Massachusetts...
Good friends with Barney the “Woodchuck”.. who likes wood whether its stiff or flaccid..

Who really gets revved up about Mittens?

Not even the Ann Coulters when you look deeply into it. All of those publically endorsing him do it for the same reason. Mitt Romney is the best chance at beating Obama. That statement alone pretty much says they are voting against Obama and not for any particular idea Mittens ever came out with.

Not defending 0bambi by any stretch of the imagination; but what would a Romney presidency be like? Any better or worse than we have now? Romney will populate his cabinet with people who are like-minded. His policies will be determined by the loudest voice. Another four years of no budgets, no energy policy, no reduction in debt or deficits, etc.

So what to do? A huge dilemma, to be sure. Over the cliff at 75 MPH (Romney) or over the cliff at 100 MPH (0bambi)?
I really don’t care; I’m writing in Sarah Palin and hope that we control BOTH Houses of Congress.

You've pretty much stated my feelings.

His policies will be determined by the loudest voice.

Amen to that!

The man has said little about any plans he may have on gasoline and energy in general.

His whole campaign has been "I'm a conservative. No really, I am".

They wish!

1) Romney made his own money while the pussy Kerry married it.
2) Kerry is a traitor. Romney is not.
3) Kerry is dumb as a rock. Romney aint dumb.
