If Romney wins the nomination it will set up the Perfect Political Storm for the Democrats to run a 3rd Party "conservative" to siphon enough votes to let Obama win.
Romney is so detestable to so many conservative and so similar to Obama on so many issues that for many there's no compelling reason to vote for him. Also, Obama and the Democrats have more then enough of a war chest as well as a complacent media to make a 3rd party run look worthwhile as well as feasible to the massive number of disenfranchised conservatives who reject Romney.
With the Media and Democrat war chest supporting a 3rd Party type run they can bleed off enough to let Obama win with as little as a 3rd... To make it work they would need a GOP candidate so disliked and so similar to the Democrat candidate it would make the risk appear worthwhile to vote for the 3rd party.
As it stands Romney is NOT the Nominee and may not be the Nominee if enough conservatives continue to vote against him in the remaining primaries. He has about 535 committed delegates now ONLY. That's a long way from the 1444 first vote he needs. And the Paul camp probably has enough stealth delegates to prevent Romney from winning the first vote if he does not have enough committed delegates by convention time.
Its a long shot but we may still be able to prevent the Democrats and Media from forcing Romney on us. Because if they succeed there is a real possibility a 3rd party will siphon off enough to let Obama win again.
Ain’t gonna happen.
Too expensive in today’s world of media, media, media.
The Super Pacs control everything, now................
Ross Perot proved the utility of third parties, to Democrats.
No “Liberal Conspiracy” needed - the Pubbies are doing it to themselves quite effectively —
“None of the Above” will be the candidate of choice for many conservatives suffering from ‘hold-your-nose’ exhaustion....
Doug Schoen (Sp?) was on Hannity about a month ago espousing this. He is for a Huntsman candidacy and is already working toward it. Schoen is a “D”, but he’s not an Obama fan, supposedly.
He talked of Huntsman running as an independent third party and thought that he could actually siphon off enough Obama voters to make a true run at it. Hannity tried to convince him that this was handing the election to Obama, but Schoen didn’t think so.
With a lot of conservatives staying home, if Huntsman runs, we are GUARANTEED another 4 years of Obama.
I would see a republican third party run, pass the kool aid.
Who would it be? If Ron Paul decided to do this, his son’s career in the Republican party would be effectively over. Even if Ron Paul ran, he could siphon off a lot of the anti war vote that would be voting for Obama. I just don’t see who the credible candidate it is they could get to run third party that would do it knowing they are re-electing Obama.
“Ross Perot proved the utility of third parties, to Democrats.”
Exactly what I thought when I read this.
I expect the real 3rd-party momentum will be AFTER the election, after Romney loses. The GOP will fully split in two, between the establishment and the conservative, Tea party side.
” - - - None of the Above will be the candidate of choice for many conservatives suffering from hold-your-nose exhaustion.... “
Yep. Well said.
We are FINALLY taking Nancy Reagan’s advice: “JUST SAY NO!”
Actually, the GOP is re-electing Obama by nominating Romney. No third-party presence in November overrides the fact this is the GOP's self-inflicted wound. It didn't have to be this way.
Waste of bandwidth. Hope you are a monthly donor!
I don’t know yet. They can probably create somebody or pump up one of the obscure ones. I think Perot did not show on the radar till late in the game...
It's not even needed. Romney is going to lose this one big with or without "help." And the GOP E has wanted it this way all along.
You’re absolutely right. Ron Paul has already set up a devotee named Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico to run against Romney as an economic conservative. Now ask yourself: Did Paul attack Romney’s other opponents so viciously and fanatically, yet leave Romney alone because ...
1) Romney was the most firmly opposed to socialism, or
2) With Romney as the nominee, Johnson will be able to siphon more disgruntled conservatives away?
Think so? Look at the other responses.
Ron Paul is 76 years old. The notion that he ever intended to be president is a sick joke. He was in there purely to see that a socialist won the Republican nominee, so that the Libertarian Party would emerge as a viable alternative to Democrats and Republicans. But he won’t be the Libertarian candidate; it’ll be Gary Johnson.
Which will be ironic for the ITYS conservatives. Because the task for the next candidates opposing the incumbents will be for a moderate to move right and regain the conservatives using GOP resources, or for a conservative to attempt to pull their enemies back to the right using his own resources. If that kind of synchronized swimming can't happen this year against Obama, then it sure can't happen with blood in the water following a 2012 massacre.
” 2) With Romney as the nominee, Johnson will be able to siphon more disgruntled conservatives away? “
Ya know, it occurs to me that this whole discussion is predicated on the assumtion that Conservatives are too damn dumb to see through any “Straw Man in a Trojan Horse” strategy...
If that is, indeed, the case, then we deserve to lose - in fact, we’re too damn dumb to be voting, at all...
I would rather have a different candidate. I hate Romney, McCain, Dole and all their other rhino’s. Let have a third party ticket than this lot. This is the guy that gave us gay marriage and Romney Care. Please forgive me but this guy was Mister Negative against all Conservatives but will not go negative to win here!
Not going to happen. There are already existing 3rd party’s anyway. You can join the .15% of people that will cast a ballot for the Constitution Party, or the .5% of people that vote Libertarian.
Hussein is such a polarizing figure that the entire election is going to be a referendum on him, and as such there is no real chance the Republican nominee will face any significant division among the ranks as we near election day.
Sure, right now there is still acrimony, but by this Fall the election is going to feel like a war with all the conservative standard bearers being firmly on the side of Romney - and that will include Palin, Newt, Santorum, Perry, Cain, etc, etc, etc.
Nominating a thoroughly unelectable candidate - Romney - as a conservative standard bearer, is an act of sabatoge. Romney cannot win. He does not have the conservative, the women or any minority voting bloc, only his benighted Mormon community. Romney will represent one Manchurian candidate against another.
“A nation deserves the leaders it gets.”
We deserve Obama, and the ruling liberal republican leaders are nothing but scumbag socialists.
If it is Romney I will vote for the 3rd party conservative, it’s time for conservatives to vote for what they believe, the republican leadership has scewed this towards Romney by hook or by crook and let’s not forget Ann Coulture in all of this, I hope here career is over.
Supposing a third party ran Palin/West...dream ticket for me...would it beat Romney and Obama?
No 3rd Party without a run off between the 1st and 2nd place winners. The winner will be the loser as the majority will have voted against it in a 3 party election.
I don't see it. Milquetoast is no substitute for principle.
I would vote for that Ticket in a heart beat.
"Will"??
No. I refuse. I put my foot down. This country is finished anyway, we’re arguing over the design of the coffin.
You are quite correct. A “3rd party” candidate will bring about Obama’s 2nd term. Instead, “Plan B” for conservatives needs to be electing as many non-RINO candidates to Congress as possible.
The truth is that Romney’s 1st term will be only marginally better for the country than Obama’s 2nd term. To counter either of these big government liberals, we need a solidly conservative House and we need to retake the Senate. At the very least, we need a House that’s willing to monkey wrench the government for another 4 years.
That doesn’t happen if we all go wandering off the reservation in support of a 3rd party run.
Anyone who desires to post vanity threads should either:
1. Be a monthly donor, or
2. Contribute $10 for bandwidth rent.
“Palin/West Dream ticket.”
Yeah, that’s the ticket!
I am certainly never voting for Romney, in that I see no difference between Romney and Obama, except what they call things.
Further, Romney is a liar and a evil little man not worthy of support of any kind.
His lies against Thompson last election and Newt this election sealed the deal for me.
I am either staying out or voting third party.
Yeah, I know some people who said this very thing last time around. They threw their votes away on write-ins or 3rd party's because they thought they were making a statement. Now almost all of them regret it and would walk through a pit of poisonous snakes to vote for the Republican candidate since he is the only one who can beat Hussein.
I heard Johnson being interviewed on the radio the other day. Before I knew who was being interviewed, my initial reaction was that, whoever he was, he was extremely arrogant. While he did say some conservative things that I agreed with, he also endorsed a number of issues such as gay marriage. Realistically, his attempts to come off as "conservative" will only help Obama get re-elected. But the guy is in total denial about that. He really doesn't care. He reminded me of the so-called “conservative” 3rd party candidate, Scott Ashjian, that Harry Reid's campaign supported behind the scenes during his last race to help siphon votes off of Sharon Angle in Nevada. Candidates such as him generally don't get many votes, but in a close race are very important to the Democrats.
What the country needs is a fiscally-conservative, socially-individual liberty minded, and foreign policy-USA first candidate.
I don’t care what label you put on that candidate or how big their caucus is on capital hill, those are the characteristics that will earn my vote.
“We deserve Obama, and the ruling liberal republican leaders are nothing but scumbag socialists.

I agree with EVERYTHING you say EXCEPT there is no way that I can allow our current president to continue. Mittens has NEVER been a choice of mine! Yet, I won’t have to hold my nose becuase I want the current POTUS out! I will rejoice more that he is out than Mittens has won. After election then we can begin to separate the establishment from their hold on power. Mittens may be a lot of things but he is no Marxist. Right now that is ENOUGH for me. We have to get rid of the immediate threat...progressive leadership...and then cut away at the lingering threat...RINO leadership. If we can’t get it ALL in one offensive then let’s take what we can get in order to continue moving forward. Be smart people...be strategice...the future is on the line for our kids and grandkids.
Maybe they will run Tim Cahill.
“itll be Gary Johnson”
And sadly, I would vote for pot-smoking loser Gary Johnson over Romney in a heart beat.
Eventually it will happen.
Sooner or later we will have to confront the GOP establishment in a “final battle”. Making them finish third in a Presidential race would turn them into the Whigs.
Are the stakes too high to do it this cycle? Perhaps.
But sooner or later it has to be done.
No matter how you rationalize it for yourself, you will be voting for Obama. Be a stand up guy and do not weasel out. Just pull the lever for Obama. Any vote not for the GOP nominee is a vote for Obama, period.
At this time I am opposed to a third party. But if the GOP and Romney lose in Nov., I am game to starting one. We have been betrayed ever since Geo. H. W. Bush got control of the party. He got rid of the Reagan appointees and put in his own spineless nothing moderates. But we MUST wait till after the election. If we do it before, and Obummer is re-elected, the third party would be detested!
to say Romney is as bad as Obama is mis-guided moral relativism. Nothing would be as bad as an O second term.
barry is the bigger danger
get hussien first, then get the rhinos
barry is the bigger danger
get hussien first, then get the rhinos
Turd Parties! Yeah sure 0Bama would love it!
Talk about rationalizing.
Voting for Obama is voting for Obama. Anything else is NOT voting for Obama.
Unless we do something about it, we will always have these two choices, R and D, bad and worse. And things will go from bad to worse.
