US jobless claims raise recovery fears

First-time claims for jobless benefits in the US rose last week, which, coupled with last Friday’s downbeat jobs report has reignited fears about the pace of the country’s economic recovery.

While some economists have said the numbers are a distortion caused by the early timing of the Easter and Passover holidays this year, rather than a sign that labour market conditions have deteriorated, others have said the data combined with disappointing payroll growth in last week’s jobs report for March is a reminder that fewer job losses do not necessarily mean new hiring.

“The spike in energy prices is beginning to have a slowing impact on the broader economy. The claims data were not good, with the number well above expectations. The trend is moving in the wrong direction. National average gasoline prices are at just under $4 a gallon, which is going to have an impact on economic activity and we have started to see it in the jobs report,” he said.

That will be a centerpiece of his re-election campaign.

"You aren't working because Grrrrrreeeeedy Eeeeeeeevil Corporations are HOARDING all of their cash!"

It ain't much, but it's about all he's got.

Of course! Obama’s stated objective is to “spread the wealth around”. Whether that is cash businesses are holding for a better business atmosphere or your IRA, Obama wants it to give to his supporters. He is fomenting class warfare between the ‘makers’ and the ‘takers’. And, by the way, if you are a Democrat in 2016 you will get to go to the head of the line in the redistribution of health care under Obamacare.

“...has reignited fears about the pace of the country’s economic recovery.”

What recovery? The only measure I can think of that has been positive is growth.

But that growth is just due to an infusion of fantasy stimulus money. Its not real.

There is no recovery.

New York Post used the term ‘Worse than Expected”.

The streak is unbroken.

The pace of the country’s economic recovery is equal to the pace my mother was able to maintain whenever her electric wheelchair ran out of charge.

It's all those people hired to wear bunny suits and Moses robes and ring bells for donations that have now been laid off.

There wasn’t a recovery.

There isn’t a recovery.

There won’t be a recovery as long as 0bama is president.

0bama never intends for there to be a recovery.

[How can your opening comment be deleted and the post survive?]

O’bummer should include in the statistics, moms as employed but underpaid. That should dress up the employment numbers for reelection and setup a platform for minimum wage to be paid to moms via welfare. A win win for liberals.
