Skip to comments.Pro-marriage group thinks IRS employee leaked Mitt Romney’s donor info to Human Rights Campaign

It is likely that someone at the Internal Revenue Service illegally leaked confidential donor information showing a contribution from Mitt Romneys political action committee to the National Organization for Marriage, says the group.
In a letter exclusively obtained by The Daily Caller, the organization has asked the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration to investigate and learn the source of the breach and prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law. It also provided evidence suggesting the leak might have been the result of IRS employee misconduct.
The dispute stems from a March 30 post on the pro-gay Human Rights Campaigns (HRC) website, which boasted that it had obtained documents revealing that Mitt Romney donated $10,000 to the National Organization for Marriage [NOM] in 2008
NOM argues that such an unauthorized public release of confidential taxpayer information was a clear violation of federal law.
Tax-exempt organizations like NOM are required file Form 990 with the IRS annually, which includes a schedule of donors who contribute at least $5,000 during a reporting period. This information is filed solely with the IRS, and the Internal Revenue Code requires the agency to keep the information confidential.

Looks like someone at the IRS, for starters, needs to go to jail.
Just asking but isn’t this stuff available on “Open Secrets”?
A seasoned, un-named IRS agent will be fired...
Just imagine what having all of your private medical information on government servers can do. Protected by 5,000 newly minted IRS agents, no less.
Craig Livingstone was a neolithic piker. 900 FBI files? Pshaw!
This is just the tip of the iceberg with Barry’s kids infesting our government. America no longer has any secrets and it’s that kind of stuff that gets people killed. America is in deeper kimchi than we know.
Well, good on Romney for that.
Yes—guidestar.org has this information for any non profit.
A 990 is not a confidential document.
There are a lot do Democrat moles inside the IRS. Paula Jones was audited by the IRS after she filed a complaint against Bill Clinton. She and her husband filed a 1040A tax return with about $35,000 income and they were audited. How did that happen? In 2004 Bill Simon (R) had details of his tax return leaked to the press when he ran for governor in California. I don’t remember anybody in the IRS getting punished.
Did anyone go to jail for what they did to Joe the Plumber?
"you don't need a president-for-life if you've got a bureaucracy-for-life."
Well, if that's true [and I'm not doubting you,] it takes the wind out of this story. It's interesting they'd go to the trouble of adding a layer covering up the IRS markings, though.
Thanks servo1969. More dirty tricks and lawbreaking by the Obama administration.
