Republican Mitt Romney holds a slim edge over President Obama in a head-to-head matchup, a Fox News poll released Thursday shows. In addition, the poll finds the president’s job rating has dropped to its lowest point of the year.
In a presidential matchup, Romney tops Obama by 46-44 percent if the election were today.
As with every Romney-Obama matchup in the past six months, the race is so tight that it is within the poll’s margin of sampling error. This, however, is only the second time the Fox News poll shows Romney on top. The first time was November 2011, when he was also up by 2 percentage points.
The poll was conducted Monday through Wednesday. On Tuesday, Rick Santorum suspended his presidential bid -- giving Romney a clear path to the Republican nomination.

As much as we all are sick he is going to be the nominee, the fact is he is much more palatable to the average voter than Obama after three and a half disastrous years.
Our movement has to go into double overdrive to keep and expand our House majority, remove turds like Lugar in the primary, and push the House and Senate as far right as possible. Make the House and Senate a conservative mandate and send good bills to Romney’s desk.
Next thing you know they’ll be saying that weemins favor Romney.

That really is our best-case scenario at this point. Make the best of a bad situation by increasing our lead in the House to a comfortable margin and taking over the Senate. That would effectively defang and derail Obama's agenda should he somehow win a second term but it would also force a President Romney further to the right than he would be otherwise. Bear in mind that when he was governor of Massachusetts, he was dealing with a state legislature that was 90% Democrat. Even Ronald Reagan wouldn't be able to make much conservative headway in an environment like that.
As much as I dislike Mitt I will offer this piece of analysis. Romney will win because of the economy, if the economy was better Romney would lose. But in the end people vote with their pocketbooks.
We have six months until the election, the economy is in the toilet, Obama’s only game plan is going to be to attack Romney’s wealth which doesn’t seem to be going too well right now. I’m no fan of Mitt’s but Obama has to run on a horrible record and is slipping in approval, to say he can’t be beat is a little bit of a stretch.

I agree 100%. Raising my Son was harder than raising my Daughter. Having a man around to help raise a boy makes all the difference.
My husband knew every step my Son would take a head of time, but when he was on patrol for 6 mos. at a time, it was left up to me to guess what is going through the head of a hormonal 12 yr old boy. Not an easy task.
Many of us will be voting for Romney if he is the Republican nominee. Many of us loathe the thought of a second term for Obama.
I stick with my prediction!!! Obama will only carry about 8-10 states. This election will destroy Obama politically and take down the Democrat Party to almost permanent minority status. Both the House & Senate will be strongly in control by the Republicans. One to watch, the Wisconsin Recall of Governor Scott Walker. If Governor Walker wins his recall election in June, the November POTUS election will reap a devastating defeat for Obama and his Democrat Party ilk!!!
Believe me, many Democrat Politicians know Obama is going down to defeat and they would love to broom him right now!!! However, they have no guts....and will go down with him!!!
If Governor Walker loses his recall election, Obama will still lose, but....it will be a tighter race!!!!
Do you even know anything about the polling firm Fox uses, or are you just making this stuff up? What evidence do you have that the poll is fake? RCP always includes this poll in their average, and they are fairly picky about excluding unreliable firms. Further, the D/R/I internals look fairly representative of the voting population.
The Fox News Poll is conducted under the joint direction of Anderson Robbins Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R). The poll is based on live telephone interviews with a national sample of 910 registered voters, and was conducted April 9-11, 2012.
So again, what evidence do you have that the poll is fake? Just because Brit, Rove, etc, are pimping Willard doesn't mean the polling firm a network uses is faking it.
Complaining about poll numbers is what people do when they don't like the results. The economy is not very good, and as such Romney certainly has a chance to win and this poll reflects that. I'd say Mitt's odds are about 30-40% right now.
Thanks for talking some sanity on the forum. Lots of folks here really do not like Mitt Romney. He was not my first choice either. In fact both Rick and Newt were my two candidates.
We need to grow up [taking a cue from Barry Goldwater in 1960] and resolve to elect more conservetives to the House and the Senate, and while we’re at it vote for Mitt Romney too.
We cannot endure another 4 your term for Obama - instead of a lameduck President, we’ll have a POTUS who rules by edict. He had absolutely no respect for our Constitution, for personal integrity (he lies all the time) nor toward any strong religious faith except for Islam.
