National Right to Life, others endorse Romney (Dear Lord)

National Right to Life and two other major pro-family groups have endorsed Mitt Romney for president, saying that on the issues of abortion and marriage, he stands with them.

National Right to Life's endorsement Thursday (April 12) came two days after Romney's leading challenger for the Republican nomination -- Rick Santorum -- dropped out, making Romney the presumptive nominee. Also endorsing Romney were the Susan B. Anthony List, a group that supports pro-life women for political office, and the National Organization for Marriage, which has led the charge nationwide in protecting the traditional definition of marriage.

In its endorsement, National Right to Life said Romney "has taken a strong pro-life position and is committed to implementing policies to protect the unborn." The organization said Romney:

-- opposes Roe v. Wade, having called the 1973 decision a "big mistake."

-- supports the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortions.

-- backs the Mexico City Policy, which bans federal funds for organizations that perform or promote abortions in foreign countries.

"On pro-life issues, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama provide a stark contrast," said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. "As the country's most pro-abortion president, Barack Obama has pursued a radical pro-abortion agenda. It is now time for pro-life Americans to unite behind Mitt Romney. For the sake of unborn children, the disabled, and the elderly, we must win."

The Susan B. Anthony List made similar points and added that Romney has pledged to "appoint only constitutionalist judges to the federal bench" and also to defund Planned Parenthood.

"Women deserve a president who truly respects our views on an issue so central to womanhood," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. "A President Romney will be that man. If there was murkiness during the last election over Barack Obama's extreme abortion position, absolute clarity exists now -- and his abortion position is rejected by women young and old."

The National Organization for Marriage, which played key roles in preventing gay "marriage" from being legalized in California and Maine, said Romney was an early signer of the organization's pledge, which meant he was committing to:

-- support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

-- appoint Supreme Court justices and an attorney general "who will apply the original meaning of the Constitution."

-- "vigorously" defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act in court.

-- establish a presidential commission on religious liberty.

-- advance legislation to allow District of Columbia citizens to vote on the definition of marriage. Gay "marriage" currently is legal in D.C.

Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, said the group was "proud" to endorse Romney.

"President Obama," Brown said, "has declared our nation's marriage laws to be unconstitutional and not only has refused to defend them, his administration is actively working to repeal them in the courts. He's come out against state constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. And he has appointed leaders of the same-sex 'marriage' movement as national co-chairs of his reelection campaign.

Incredibly, Obama still apparently claims to personally support traditional marriage. With friends like President Obama, the institution of marriage doesn't need enemies."

These conservatives are just that—conserve for
“me”, “me”, “me”, live in yesterday because they are afraid and they are cowards.

Cowards refuse to read the tea leaves and certainly run from the facts, so afraid to fight they board the trains willingly, thinking it’s just a ride through the country.

Patriots are different from “conservatives”. They will, HOLD THE DAMN LINE. They recognize collapse has already happened and we are just rearranging the deck chairs on the TITANIC!

There NEWT stands. Where are these devout, self-rightous arbiters of morality against the repentant and the redeemed.

I NEVER thought I would hear, see, or smell an American who would be willing to trade their peachy security for a train ride.

Sadly, they are ALL over Free Republic.

Kansas, guess what you can do with your “no-brainer”?

THAT is your ticket to Romnaushwitz. Maybe you’ll get coffee with cream on election day. Things are NOT as they appear, but you can stay in airhead territory.

Just don’t sob so loud you give away our position. Sheesh!

Judging by Romneys support and financial donations to Planned Parenthood and appointment of leftwing judges and of course RomneyCare (which he still supports)...

Anyone who thinks the pro-life movement is better off with Mittens is insane.

His promises aren’t worth the paper they are written on.

Again, you are politically incompetentent if you do not accept the expertise of the National Right to Life Committee!

Not only to I not "accept the expertise of the National Right to Life Committee," I think they've become nothing but a bunch of unprincipled losers.

The Dems laugh at them on a regular basis. Because they know full well that they are absolutely no threat to them or abortion on demand.

Let me ask you: How much money do you think Romney supporter and NRTL lawyer James Bopp has helped funnel to NRTL from Romney and his well-heeled friends in the last five years?

They have no expertise, and their OFFICIAL POSITION is one of opposing all legislation that would actually stop any given abortion.

By the way, I can spell "incompetent".

When you throw out broad unfounded insults, try to do so less illiterately.

I would rather be faithful to the Constitution and be “politically incompetentent” than support a man who forces CAtholic hospitals to perform abortions which they believe to be murder, when there is a solid pro-life candidate running against him. And there is, in this primary, which is where we’re still at in this process.

If this was the general election my response might be different. But this is the primary election, and anybody who is pro-life should be rallying around Newt Gingrich at this point.

I’m sick of the “politically competent” people who break laws regarding proportional delegates, invent new requirements without due process so that addresses have to be listed for everybody but Romney and Ron Paul, miscount votes in Iowa and Maryland, call a direct win a tie instead, try the Chicago way in Missouri so they can’t even have their caucus, etc in order to screw the primary voters. If I wanted crap like that I’d vote democrat. The R’s have no more respect for the rule of law than the race-baiters putting out a $10,000 bounty on George Zimmerman and calling for violence have. Again, if I wanted that kind of lawless thuggery, I’d vote for the Black Panthers.

You R-establishment hacks are burning all your bridges with those of us who value the rule of law, thanks to people like yourself who have argued against everything I believe in, including the US Constitution. The lawless shenanigans done to get “your guy” in as the candidate are disgusting and reveal your true colors.

I would vote for worms from my trash if that’s what it took to vote against Obama, but I have a sinking feeling that this is exactly what I will be stuck voting for this year in the general unless real conservatives solidify behind Gingrich, and exactly the stench I’ll be surrounded by as I climb in next to bedfellows who disgust me to my very core.

a pledge from Romney is as good as a promise from Obama..

Neither are worth a poop..

Amazing. This is a time of testing, if not escalating judgement. I saw this comment on a news article thread:

“How would the church have faired if it had put its faith and future in the hands of the Roman empire?”

The real world has collapsed already. LaRaza wants to joins with Black Panthers to take out Anglos, our military is stuck over seas with no ride home, there is talk of unionizing them now, Romney is the godfather of Obamacare which is being implemented under your nose, which Reagan said is the first way to usher in socialism, but these are not socialists.

They are communists.

Romney has a record full of MA legislation enacting all the groundwork that communists wholeheartedly support and you spill Skittles on the keyboard telling us to cooperate with evil by supporting it in smaller doses, because you’re scared and coward country is near by and in vogue?

Useful idiots are ALL OVER Free Republic.

This reliance on Romney to “save us” brings to mind the clarity of that part about a “remnant”.

And there NEWT stands. ALONE.

That is so much BULLSHIT!!!!

Romney specifically said he was for Roe v Wade and on the other he was against them.

Now he’s for them?

I am stunned and I one question:

“How much did Romney pay you to get on your back and did he leave a tion on the dresser?”
