Pat Buchanan: Obama's Zimmerman problem
Human Events ^ | April 13, 2012 | Patrick J. Buchanan

Posted on 04/13/2012 2:49:28 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

God save me from my friends; I can take care of my enemies.

That thought must be coursing through the mind of President Obama right now as his White House rigs for silent running in the murder trial of George Zimmerman.

Obama foolishly inserted himself into this volatile case weeks ago, and injected the issue of race. Expressing empathy with the family of Trayvon Martin, Obama flashed a signal of racial solidarity:

"If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon."

Obama also implied that he shares the liberal perspective that America is a country where black kids must walk in daily fear of white racist vigilantes.

"All of us have to do some soul-searching to figure out how does something like this happen. And that means that we examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident."

Translation: The death of Trayvon tells us something is wrong with America.

To most Americans, this is a slander against their country, refuted by the statistics on interracial crime. Obama, however, buys into it.

Angela Corey, the special prosecutor, says that the charge against Zimmerman of second-degree murder was based on evidence and not influenced by the weeks of demonstrations, demands and threats from black leaders.

Perhaps. But from what the pubic knows, a charge of second-degree murder, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life, does not seem to stand up.

To convict, prosecutors must convince all 12 members of a jury that not only was Zimmerman in no danger of bodily harm, he did not believe he was in danger of bodily harm. He simply killed Martin in a "depraved" state of mind.

Nothing revealed so far seems to support that theory.

Zimmerman saw a tall stranger, hooded and acting suspiciously. He called the cops. He did not tell them the man was black. They had to ask him whether the suspect was black, white or Hispanic.

"He looks black," said Zimmerman.

The CNN report that Zimmerman, on the call to the cops, used a racial slur, "(bleeping) coon," has been withdrawn. What Zimmerman said was that it was "(bleeping) cold" outside.

Came then the fight. Two eyewitnesses say they saw Zimmerman on his back being beaten and screaming for help.

A cop at the scene said Zimmerman had a bloody nose and a gash on the back of his head. Zimmerman's family says Trayvon banged George's head on the sidewalk. Film of Zimmerman entering the police station that night shows bruising on the back of his head.

Trayvon was found lying face down. If Zimmerman had been on top and shot him, would not Trayvon have been found on his back?

Zimmerman's family says Trayvon started the fight with a fist to the nose, and George went down. Trayvon is not here to tell his story. But a natural question arises:

Why would Zimmerman, with a holstered gun to protect himself, close with and start a fistfight with a teenager half a head taller? A grown man with a gun his adversary does not know he has -- would he not more likely stand some distance away, to pull it out if needed?

The prosecutors must have discovered new evidence to indict for murder. For all of the testimony from Zimmerman's side and the eyewitnesses seems to create more than a reasonable doubt that he committed a murder.

Where is Obama's political problem?

With the election on, the case has begun to divide the nation along racial lines. And Obama's allies are doing it. It is Jesse Jackson and the Black Caucus crying that Trayvon was "hunted down like a rabid dog in the street," that he was "murdered and martyred," that it was a "hate crime."

"It's a disgrace that man (Zimmerman) hasn't been shot yet," says Mike Tyson. The New Black Panther Party has put out a poster offering a $10,000 reward that reads, "Wanted: Dead or Alive."

The face on the poster is George Zimmerman.

Trayvon is the victim here, but George Zimmerman is beginning to look like a victim -- of lynch law and mob rule.

With the Panthers and Tyson calling for vengeance and vigilante justice, where is Attorney General Eric Holder? Out congratulating Al Sharpton for bringing political pressure on Florida to indict.

Is this how justice is advanced in Obama's America?

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has denounced Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law -- which may be Zimmerman's defense -- as "a license to murder" and an excuse for "vigilante justice."

Bloomberg seems about to lead a crusade against the National Rifle Association and for repeal of stand-your-ground laws in the two dozen states that have enacted them.

Given their huge emotional investment in this case, how will black leaders and black America react if Zimmerman walks?

And how will the rest of America react to that reaction?

And if Zimmerman, Trayvon, race, guns and stand-your-ground become voting issues this fall, how good is that for Barack Obama?

You guys are nuts. Half the country is not virulently liberal. Obama is going to lose and lose very big.

The swing vote is very much right of center and Obama is going to lose well into the slightly left of center voters.

This will be a landslide with the GOP nominee getting well into the mid to high 50’s leaving Obama in the low 40’s. And to hammer the point home even harder, Obama will lose the NW and California will be in play.

"Is Team Obama that stupid, or did this just get away from them?"

A more fitting term would be "arrogant." The smarest guy in the room and his cohorts are about to be schooled. This is a "Law and Order" issue (think 1968). Between this and 2nd Amendment issues, these clowns have locked their lips around the Third Rail of American politics. Bon appetit!

You left off gays from the list. And I wouldn’t give up on the college kids. They’re not all cut from the “occupy” cloth. Just look at the hundreds of thousands of kids attending football games at college campuses across the country. I’d guess a large percentage of them are from all-American families. The republican candidate needs to campaign at colleges across the country and ask them if they want to join the previous four graduating classes under obama to come out into the world to no good paying jobs, a mountain of debt and go back to live with mom and dad. What has he done for them in four years?

The problem the liberals have with this is that hispanics may begin to identify with Zimmerman. Look at this guy. If Pancho Villa had a son, he would look like Jorge Zimmerman.

If the latino community embraces Zimmerman as one of their own, and I’m betting they will as we learn more of him, then this is an even bigger blunder for liberals than the Hilary Rosen/Ann Romney kerfuffle. If they take offense to his being railroaded, then all the votes gained by pandering to blacks will be nullified and then some.

Hispanics in America have always had an uneasy coexistence with blacks. If there’s violence associated with this thing, it’s my bet that it will be between blacks and hispanics, not blacks and whites.

America is a country where black kids must walk in daily fear of white racist vigilantes.

Correction:
America is a country where whites must walk in daily fear of black racist mobs!!!

America is a country where whites are called racists if they defend their person, home or property against harm from blacks!!!

Sigh. America is a country where black kids must walk in daily fear of other black kids (b on b: 90% of murders) and where white kids must walk in daily fear of other white kids (w on w: 83% of murders). It's also a country where race baiters all around make outlandish claims.

What an irrelevant conclusion.

I agree.

The 2010 elections proved that this is possible, and what has changed since then? Well, the flames have been fanned even more since then.

This election will not be about demographics, ethnicity or gender, it will be about two groupings: those who derive their livlihoods from the private sector and those who derive theirs from government. The 2010 midterms proved that the former comprises a plurality. The private sector has been under seige by this administration, and this realization created the tea parties, and continues to spawn anger and fear.

Obama will lose, and what he's doing now, alienating hispanics and women who work at home, is making it even worse while displaying nothing more than desperation.

I know Pat Buchanan. I campaigned for him here in Louisiana in 1996. There’s no doubts he’s got his faults and baggage. But when he sets pen to paper, he’s as good as it gets.

Amen! I always read his bylines. Always.

Obama already has the black vote locked up, but he is going to lose a lot of hispanics due to the nationally perceived legal lynching of Jorge Zimmerhombre.

So it’s clearly not a wash, but a loser for his team.

Nothing is going to happen. Zimmerman guilty or innocent, there will be chest puffing on this side or the other, but the blacks arent going to change their vote or feelings about an “oppressive” America. The Hispanic vote wont change. There’ll be no tidal wave of votes to one side or the other regardless of what happens to Zimmerman. Whites, the same thing. How many times should America have gone “this way” or “that way” because of the behavior or stupid utterance of this person or that person, white or black, liberal or conservative, poor or rich, celebrity or common guy? We always think a slip of the tongue is going to send the polls reeling in favor or against a political figure or party. Voter shenanigans, obamacare, black panther threats, crushing debt, gay marriage, it goes on and on and on. Each time one of these topics comes to the forefront we expect the left to crumble yet it grinds on, making mincemeat of America. We have a socialist president in power and the best the right can do is put up Mitt Romney? That suggests one of two things- America is not the conservative nation Rush and others say it is or the fix is in from the top and we are all screwed.

Nothing is going to happen. Zimmerman guilty or innocent,

On a different but related front, I'd suggest that one thing that will happen, conviction or acquittal, is that anybody in North America who looks like Zimmerman or shares his name will be in danger, probably for the next 5-10 years.

There are the Panthers yes but there are also a lot of Panther sympathizers and Sharpton/Jackson koolaid drinkers - Not to mention the Nation of Islam bunch - who will eagerly embrace the "he looked like Zimmerman" rationale for any mayhem they might have in mind.....as if they needed any additional rationale.

I just read that it is very unlikely that the trial will be held in 2012. How convenient for Obama.

California is going to continue to lag in growth and sag in debt, continue to alienate business and burden the public tax payer with huge state and city workers pensions.

La Raza notwithstanding, Hispanics do not like Obama. Women over 26 do not like Obama. I’m suspecting that there are probably quite a few black people who don’t like him.

He’s mean, racist, divisive and just plain not a capable leader with a 4 trillion dollar Albatross around his neck.
