Walker tells NRA members he's 'a target'

St. Louis - Gov. Scott Walker touted his support for hunting and gun rights Friday and asked people from across the country for help in a June recall election, saying "I have become a target."

Walker was among a group of top-tier Republicans who spoke during the first full day of the National Rifle Association's annual convention in downtown St. Louis.

The appearance underscored Walker's stature among ardent conservative organizations and the national stage on which Wisconsin's recall election is being played.

Although he never explicitly asked for money, Walker repeatedly asked convention-goers for "help" and "support."

"The advocates of big government view me as a threat. They want to take me out," Walker told the crowd of 5,500 at the Edward Jones Dome. "Our opponents are targeting me because I stand in their way of getting their hands on money and power."

Walker, who received standing ovations before and after his speech, told the crowd that Wisconsin's recall has national significance and warned, "If I fail in June, it sets us back at least a decade, if not a generation."

Walker is heading into a June 5 recall election against the winner of the May 8 Democratic primary, likely either Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett or former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.

He said his opponents "have had thousands of people bused into our state. People ask me, 'How do you put up with it?' " Walker said. "For every person like that, 10 people come up to me and say, 'We are praying for you, governor.' "

A lot of people have asked me how they can donate to Scott Walker and make sure that it goes to the right place. Here is the link: Friends of Scott Walker

There are a lot of organizations collecting for Scott, and I'm just not sure about the ones with San Francisco addresses (a Tea Party), or the names of other campaigns on them (Tommy/Senator). I don't know if there is money skimmed off the top by these other organizations. So, I've asked around, and have received assurances that Friends of Scott Walker is the main organization and is A-OK.

I’d donate to Gov. Walker over any other republican candidate running for any office. Here is one of the good guys who needs help. Where’s the rest of FR?

My husband and I have both already donated, and I’m going to be donating again. The good news is that because of our crazy recall laws, Walker can collect unlimited donations, unlike regular elections. And he’ll need every penny because the Unions and the Dems are really going after him.

Your donation will give back twofold: Walker will withstand recall, and the Dems and the Unions will waste a lot of money that won’t be available in November to support Obama!

You don’t see too many real Republicans any more: the kind with actual spines.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is roundly hated by all Wisconites. He’ll be lucky to clear 24% against Walker in any election.

The last poll I saw asked that if you had a chance to hang Barrett or Hitler, which would you choose:

Hitler - 29%
Barrett - 79%

Have read where upwards of $100 MILLION will be spent on this election! By all sides. One of the most important elections in USA in YEARS! Unions have “rallied the troops.”
