I see very strong rotation/hook on radar. A very strong tornado is on the ground and moving through the highly populated area !
Heard through FB friends at a Miranda Lambert concert there they are evacuating the stadium where it is being held.
Watching the Weather Channel right now...one of their mets is at the NWS Office in Wichita. They moved into shelter about five minutes ago, and shifted warning responsibility to the Topeka office. Weather Channel guy describes a tremendous roar outside the building.
Just put my sturdy slip on shoes next the bed next to my KU sweats. I’m ready. It looks like it’s all going west and north of Johnson County but we did get a bit of rain.
At last report, large, wedge-shaped tornado on the ground, about 8 miles SE of downtown Wichita. Prayers up for everyone in the area...
Weather Channel is saying that it looks like the tornado could hit the south eastern edge of the city
it is moving directly into downtown Wichita.
Greenwich Heights and maybe Andover
On the ground, 55th & Broadway
Near McConnell AFB
in a strange way... the type of storm and angle.. This reminds me of the Xenia Tornado I have studied (from 1974)
i pray its not that bad..
Understand the tankers were moved to Minot earlier today...smart move..McConnell has plenty of experience with this type of weather. Significant damage reported to the airport...possible debris ball now visible on radar. Moving towards Andover, which has been hit by killer tornadoes in the past...
Hope not
I don't recall seeing an entire metro area covered with a wall cloud ~ this is a really big super cell.
Sounds like the damage at the airport wasn’t as bad as originally thought
Good news, but this thing is really well organized and staying intact...moving parallel to the Kansas Turnpike; doesn’t look like it’s losing any strength. Still a lot of folks in the path of this one...
Listening to Sedgwick County Sheriff and EMS on scanner feed now, they’re checking out damage reports etc but doesn’t sound like a big deal, other than downed trees and some damage to hangars at Boeing and Spirit. Biggest problem is 25,000 without power and storm damage in south Wichita. One house fire was out of control because fire crews couldn’t get through to it.
Listen live to Witchita EMS:

Time to go back to the Weather Channel.
Some damage to Clairmont Apts by Harry and Webb road. No injuries reported yet.
It should hit us in central Oklahoma around 3:00 a.m. My brand new 10kw generator is fueled up and ready to rock and roll.
I have an aunt that lives in Haysville.any word on Haysville?
Heck, my new home county is getting close to that line. Up in Kansas, the storm that went through Wichita has been dropping wedges for 6 hours. They claim that this new line of storms down south here, will not produce tornadoes. Just straight line winds and hail.
Scratch that previous statement, new Tornado warning issued for Oklahoma on the new southern train of storms.
Coming in late to the thread but am praying for everyone in the storms’ path!!
I live in Haysville. It missed us by about 2 miles. Power out everywhere for several hours. I hope your aunt is fine. It was only a close call here.
Thanks. She just turned 90 and I’m a little concerned. It looks nasty back there.
Sounds like major damage in Woodward/Tangier OK. Radio station K-101 in Woodward, off the air, tornado likely knocked down the 900ft.-tall + tower.
There were numerous Tornado’s reported by the spotters. Have to hope we got lucky, but there should be significant damage just due to the number of spots.
mcConnell AFB is on the East side of Wichita and took damage .
