Latin America rebels against Obama over Cuba

CARTAGENA, Colombia (Reuters) - Unprecedented Latin American opposition to U.S. sanctions on Cuba left President Barack Obama isolated at a summit on Sunday and illustrated Washington's declining influence in a region being aggressively courted by China.

Unlike the rock-star status he enjoyed at the 2009 Summit of the Americas after taking office, Obama has had a bruising time at the two-day meeting in Colombia of some 30 heads of state.

For the first time, conservative-led U.S. allies like Mexico and Colombia are throwing their weight behind the traditional demand of leftist governments that Cuba be invited to the next Summit of the Americas.

Cuba was kicked out of the Organization of American States (OAS) a few years after Fidel Castro's 1959 revolution, and has been excluded from its summits due mainly to U.S. opposition.

But Latin American leaders are increasingly militant in opposing to the 50-year-old U.S. trade embargo on the island.

Barry and his supporters said that he was going to "improve" America's image and reputation around the world. Well...

Always bowing and apologizing doesn't improve ****. It just shows that you're weak. In Barry's case, extremely weak.

“.......due mainly to U.S. opposition.”

But those were the pre-Obama days, when America was a powerful and credible country.

It appears that this MESSIAH is having problems all over the place. Just remember, he has only been in office for 3 1/2 years. Just think what he will give us if he is elected another 4 yrs? Well one good thing, he didn’t give Hugo Chavez a big hug and a “FRENCH KISS”. Well as the saying goes, every body brings joy to people: some by coming and some by leaving.Guess what kind of joy this MESSIAH will be bringing?

Much as I dislike Obama I don’t think that this could have been avoided although Obama may have encouraged it behind the scenes given his leftist leanings. The US “war on drugs” and the more recent “war on terror” are more to blame as well as our increasing slide into economic oblivion. The “war on drugs” in particular has almost destroyed Mexico and Columbia and I have heard that Columbia has basically told the US to pound sand in supporting this idiotic “war”.

We should get over Cuba, we screwed up letting Fidel come to power and then with the bay of pigs. The embargo has been a 50 year failure and much as I can’t stand Fidel’s government there isn’t much continuing something that has proven not to work. As Einstein once said, insanity is doing the same things over and over again while expecting different results.

Obummer will go down in history as the weakest person - I won’t use the word “man” - to ever hold the office. 10 to 1 the guy’s a closet poofter.

And as any normal adult understands, weakness invites aggression. This is the part where liberals go into denial.

Why didn’t he just tell them, like he told Medvedev, “after I’m re-elected, I’ll have more flexibility.”

America should NEVER loosen up on Cuba so long as the Castros are alive, if only to spite them. I grew up during the cold war and have not forgotten the Missile Crisis, so I have a particular grudge against them. Rot in Hell, Fidel.
