The GOP: A Party In Flux
Forbes ^ | April 15, 2012 | Dr. Mark W. Hendrickson is an adjunct faculty member, economist, and fellow for eco and soc policy

......Choosing between Romney,Gingrich, andSantorum was, for many, like choosing between vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream. Their personalities, pasts, and priorities had different flavors, but their philosophies were of the same general type.......voters will now have a clear-cut choice between Republican ice cream or another helping of Barack Obama’s spinach.

It is possible that Romney, after tacking to the right during the nomination process, will tack to the center during the presidential race. If so, that would mirror what Democrats do on the other side of the ideological spectrum. Such apparent vacillations and compromises may upset many of us who yearn to end the Big Government nightmare. My advice: Don’t give up on Romney too soon.... Even if he wins, Romney won’t be able to complete today’s long list of needed reforms any more than Reagan, and that will be especially true if voters don’t support Romney with strong majorities in Congress.

BarackObama has already laid the groundwork for a very challenging economic environment in 2013. Whoever is president will have to cope with a bruising debt-ceiling battle, the scheduled expiration of the Bush tax cuts, a weak job market, unresolved systemic problems with SocialSecurity and Medicare, a badly deteriorated power grid, and degraded military capabilities—not to mention possible complications resulting from Obama’s feckless foreign policy.

Frankly, I don’t think there is a person on earth who is completely prepared for all the challenges that will confront us during the next four years. I am convinced, though, that if Romney is elected, he will devote himself unreservedly to trying to solve those problems, while Obama would just make them worse. TeaPartiers, moderate Republicans, independents, and anyone else hoping for a change of direction in our country, can either unite behind MittRomney or concede defeat to BarackObama. That is the choice before us.

“voters will now have a clear-cut choice between Republican ice cream or another helping of Barack Obama’s spinach.”

Bad analogy — spinach is good for you.

What can I say?

Fred Grandy Interviews Newt Gingrich [Secure Freedom Radio] "Presidential candidate and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich shares his foreign policy strategy for Middle East. Gingrich touches on every country of the region from Iran to Saudi Arabia to Turkey and finally Afghanistan and speaks about the policies that would be implemented in a Gingrich Presidency."

There is a lie in the first sentence, but what do you expect from Forbes. More FUD from the GOP and the media.

He’s trying to write in “Tea Party” speak — you know, dumb it down for the rubes.

Yep.

Romney is not ice cream, he isn’t even dairy.

If freepers haven’t figured it by now, Wall Street bankers control this country. Tea Party was the first clue. Look how Wall Street using their corporate news arm, MSM immediately painted the movement as racist and violent when nothing happened. Why fear a small gov low taxes movement. It is call reining in corporate welfare. Conservatives can never come to power in GOP as long as it is for small gov and low taxes, oppose TARP and bailout for free markets. With debts so large that the US gov cannot pay and bankers intend to steal and loot what is left of American wealth before we implode wait till you start seeing step by step gun control types nominated by GOP. Why? If you want to rob main street you first must disarm it. Gov and corporate elites also notice the record breaking gun sales in the US. Read what happen with MF Global. In every nation that is facing imminent bankruptcy, the rich will loot it before they flee it. Because we have iPads and cellphones does not mean the nature of the rich during a crisis does not cease to exist.

“Dr.” Kinda devalues the concept of “Dr.” don’t it.

Popeye didn’t kick Bluto’s arse by eating Ben and Jerry’s rainbow ice-crapola.

If so, that would mirror what Democrats do on the other side of the ideological spectrum.

Here is the big difference, the Democrats run Marxist/Socialist who pretend to be moderates, Republicans, on the other-hand, run milquetoast moderates who make a pretend half hearted attempt at being Conservative until they get the nomination. Then they run to the middle where they feel comfortable. The MSM first cheers them on then turns on them like a vicious dog.

Maybe he’s sort of like sherbert. All fruity and sugary with no beneficial substance.

Yes, and the popular Orrin G. Hatch in UT just unleashed a nasty attack on the TEA party, said he “hated” the group.

"It is possible that Romney, after tacking to the right during the nomination process, will tack to the center during the presidential race" and in a fantasy world, he could be elected, then turn way to the left again after that.

If Romney's ice cream, then I'm lactose-intolerant.

Romney swining to the left-though predictable, will just cause more conservatives to be turned off by he.

Yeah. Plus, I don’t agree that Romney is Ice Cream and Obama Spinach. It is more like one is Turnip Greens and the other Mustard Greens (except both are tainted with E. coli bacteria). Either way you aren’t getting anything that tasty, and both will make you sick from food poisoning.

The GOPe and their current “friends” in the press are trying to get us to drink Jim Jone’s Koolaid in the form of Mitt Romney. Sorry guys, I ain’t buyin what you are selling.

Mr. Obama is an obvious poison. At best, Romney is an insidious form candy covered. Either way you end up dead.

There are points to where the “lesser of two evils” doesn’t fly anymore. It is like having to chose between Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin....there is no lesser evil.

The GOP is and has always been a liberal party , by our standards.

One conservative guy every 150 years does not mean in its flux.

“The GOP: A Party In Flux”

Can someone fix the typo?

It should read:

“The GOP: A Party In Flush”
