Forget global warming... glaciers in Asian mountain range are actually getting BIGGER
Daily Mail ^ | 15 April 2012 | Ian Garland

Photos taken by a French satellite show glaciers in a mountain range west of the Himalayas have grown during the last decade.

The growing glaciers were found in the Karakoram range, which spans the borders between Pakistan, India and China and is home to the world's second highest peak, K2. The startling find has baffled scientists

...

French scientists from the National Centre for Scientific Research and the University of Grenoble, were forced to rely on satellite images, to study the region - because much of the Karakoram range is inaccessible.

They compared observations made in 1999 and 2008 and found a marginal mass increase. They estimated the glaciers had gained between 0.11 and 0.22 metres of ice each year.

And they were able to do this from satellite pictures?
Isn’t that Amaaaazing?? /z

As is the glacier is Alaska, Hubbard Glacier

Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs did a episode of the glacier but it has been pulled from their files.

The melting point of ice/freezing point of water will not change until the end of all time. I’m not worried about either polar ice cap drowning the world.

Global warming makes glaciers grow.

I wish deniers would just admit that growing icebergs are just one more sign the globe is warming up due to something that we need to pay more taxes to fight.

Science has spoken. We need trillions of dollars to reduce this warming - which is actually making icebergs grow around the world.

“The startling find has baffled scientists”

Unexpected! (like ongoing unemployment, snicker)

What a bunch of BS. Why is this "startling"??? Seriously. A glacier can only get bigger, smaller, or stay the same. Hmm, three choices, none of which should be particularly "startling." It would be startling if the glacier spontaneously turned into tomato soup or something. But merely experiencing one of the three natural options related to size...not startling in my book.

The only thing baffling so-called "climate scientists" is how to try to spin this as proof of man-caused global warming. I know - AGW caused more moisture in the atmosphere, which passed over the mountain ranges feeding this glacier, dropping more snow, causing the growth. There scientists, in about 15 seconds I just came up with your answer so that the data can fit your agenda. Don't worry that it is based on absolutely zero facts - none of your other work seems to be either.

The startling find has baffled scientists

Wow the real startling find is that the scientist that can tell us the human activity is causing planet wide climate change did know that a glacier would be growing.

Well I can hear the scientist now: After reevaluating our data and reconfiguring our computer models of the Earth’s climate we have determined that the Earth is cooling due to human activity.

We highly recommend that everybody panic and shut down all coal fire power plants. You should also park your car and ride bicycles.

Get a clue people climate science is in its infancy. Their computer models are too primitive to predict tomorrows rain storm let alone the average temperature next year. Their computer models are designed to get grants not predict the future.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the fundamentals of the theory will remain unchanged:
1. It is still proof of global warming
2. It is still Bush’s fault

Yep. No scientist is “baffled” by data. Reporters are often “baffled” when that data doesn’t fit their preconceptions.

there is a lot of growing evidence that many “losses” of ice around the world are not net losses but the results of shifting (always changing) wind patterns, wind patterns that are delivering the snowy precipitation more in some places while less in others

the man-made global warming alarmists are insisting that most all weather changes are due to “warming”, but they actuallu have the cart before the horse - IF there is “warming” going on, it is the RESULT of global weather pattern changes, not the other way around

Please understand that global warming takes place in the more developed countries only.

The scientists they are talking about would be baffled by a bowl of cornflakes.

Isn't that roughly 3 inches? From a satellite?
