Obama has just made a Freudian slip in Colombia; maybe it's because of hanging out with Shakira. He was participating in "a cultural event to recognize the historically marginalized Afro-Colombian communities and to grant the descendents of slaves the formal title to their land." In part the story says:

Standing alongside President Santos of Colombia and singer Shakira in the Plaza de San Pedro, Obama reflected on his own ancestry.

"Early in my presidency, my family and I visited Ghana in West Africa and we visited the historic Cape Coast Castle and I'll never forget my two young daughters, the descendents of Africans and African-Americans, looking out through the door of no return where so many Africans began their forced journey to this hemisphere," he said.

First this says Obama was reflecting on HIS OWN ancestry. What exactly does Obama's ancestry have to do with his comment?? He was not born to African-Americans in the United States. His father's family weren't slaves, plus they were from East Africa, not West Africa. His mother's family weren't slaves either.

And second, see how he describes his daughters. What's missing??

You have zeroed in on the most frightening aspect of Obama’s pronouncement. What, exactly, does it mean? Does it mean that whoever owns the land now (one hundred-plus years later) is going to be forced to give it up to “the descendants of former slaves” — who likely never owned the land in the first place?

And, significantly, what does this portend for the US if Obama is reelected? He has now said he favors taking land from its current owners to “return” it to the “descendants of former slaves.” If — no, make that when — applied in the US, it will mean that the government will dictate what land it decides should belong to “the descendants of former slaves.”

And then, the tyrannical confiscation and redistribution of land will begin with ruthless ardor.

True. And East Africans, especially Muslim East Africans and Kenyans were the key perps in the slave trade. They took, sold and traded slaves. In fact, Kenya's recalcitrance in ending the trade is why the British finally had to occupy and colonize them in the last quarter of the 19th century.

And quite possibly why Zer0's father's family holds a multi-generational grudge against the Brits. The slave trade at that time was not only highly profitable but produced fringe benefits such as the right to cherry pick through the most comely women captors to add to your harem. Failure to understand this fact means failure to understand the anti-colonial Kenyan mindset.

I’m not offended at all. I already explained that everything any poster needs to know is quoted in the OP. Nobody has to read the entire article.

Your post brings to mind the actions of Mugabe...Very frightening in deed. So frightening, we must sit on the sidelines and allow him to remain in office!

I quoted exactly what was relevant and set it up in the header.

Okay, I can understand using this strategy but would argue that is not how I understand this forum works. Yes, do set up what is relevant and what you wish to discuss, but also make you point at post #1 where it is intended, by the format, to go. At times when I have been frustrated by posters not commenting at post #1, I have simply asked at post #2, "what do you think?".

And let me Apologize for my being anything Less than Polite to you, Edge919.

...Sold into slavery predominantly by muslims, then came to the new world where one of their descendents eventually became President of the United States.

Yet a majority of these progeny are still filled with rage for what they’ve laragely let their lot become, and would return this their fortune once more to the squalor of their origins.

Shakira is from Colombia, but is not “Afro-Colombian”.

Her mother is Hispanic, and her dad I believe immigrated there from Lebanon. She supposedly developed her belly-dancing routine doing the floor show in his Lebanese restaurant.

“What’s missing??”

If George Zimmerman is white Hispanic, then Obama and his kin are white, Muslim AA.

" the descendents of Africans and African-Americans, "

He considers his mother's status as irrelevant to who he is. He is basically saying that he only regards his African Ancestry as defining him, and he is in no part an American.

Of course this is just an offhand comment, so I wouldn't put to much stock in it. I think he tries to tailor his message to the audience, and while he's aware of his mother's American contribution to his existence, he saw no benefit it mentioning it.

Slavery had a long history before it ever arrived on the then young American shores. Obama, Boyce Watkins, Professor Gates, Mark Lamont, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, so many more Negro Activists who continue to whine with painful self-Flagellation to claim their right to slavery regardless of their lack of knowledge about it. Islamic Africans and Arabs were a huge factor in the success of the world wide slavery trade however, despite the long history of slavery in the Arab World and in other Muslim lands, the student has to dig deep to find the correct history of African capturing African to be sold into slavery. Muslims were the head hunters here, white man came late to the table.

Boyce Watkins and his kind are making money off their activism with lies about and corruption of the black race. Obama is one of the most racist, a true divider, this community organizer is achieving his goal of "The Disembowelment of America"

Obama will bring back slavery if given another four years in office. A white man with his issues would have been disposed of by now........

This is true, except why identify himself as African and not African-American?? Obviously he’s not a traditional African-American because neither of his parents where African-American, but there’s no reason to say his daughters are descendants of Africans AND African-Americans. In a weird way he’s distinguishing himself from his own wife, except as has been mentioned Obama’s African roots have little or nothing to do with slavery.

I think you are correct. The author of the article is the one who used the words and assumed Obama was “reflecting on his own history.”

I only brought it up because this isn’t the first time he’s done this. He does it quite frequently, as a matter of fact. If any Conservative even mentions his kids he goes off on the “off limits” rant.
(Doesn’t want his daughters “punished” with a child) ring a bell?

I can’t begrudge him too much over this. He’s supposedly teaching his kids about where they came from and perhaps wants to brag about that for modest political reasons. Yes, it’s a double standard, but otherwise I think he tries to be a good parent to his children. He didn’t grow up with a father, so I think he tries to compensate for that with his kids, and it makes sense to want to control their media exposure.

Your points are all good. I just wish he’d quit inserting them into every 10 cent speech he makes, and then call everyone else out for talking about them.
He’s a conniving opportunist, and a horse’s ass.
My apologies to all horses everywhere.

"In a weird way he’s distinguishing himself from his own wife, . . ."

I toggled back and forth between #1 and #31 half a dozen times before I began to see (possibly) what may have been the elusive interpretation of the remarks vis a vis how "Obama" self-identifies.

Put plainly, if my surmise is correct, the posit is that perhaps "Obama" views not only his spouse, but his children as well, as inferior to himself because his putative bloodline was not subjugated under slavery.

By extension, one could then surmise that he views most American blacks (West African by descent) with contempt, merely stoking their basest fears, desires and grievances for crass political gain, but never delivering anything of lasting value to their betterment as a demographic. Why would he? In his megalomaniacal view, they're the descendants of losers who allowed themselves to be captured, bought and sold like animals, deserving of whatever they get from opportunists of any racial disposition.

Is this anything along the lines you were suggesting?

That is an insight deeper than what I had noticed. Drawing a distinction between the two could be interpreted that way, but I am more inclined to think he simply uses conventional jargon, and probably didn't intend to imply any deeper meaning.

I think edge's comment is regarding his (barack's) true feelings being put forth through his offhand comments, which in my opinion seem to indicate that he doesn't really consider his American roots important at all, and that he sort of considers himself to be a pretend American. (Which is exactly how I regard him as well! :) )

But the possibility that he would have contempt for ordinary African Americans is an angle of which I had not thought. It is my understanding that the Luo are pretty contemptuous of everyone else anyway, and so Obama might simply be expressing the contempt that comes naturally for him regarding everyone else who is not as awesome as he thinks he is.

Of course the joke would be on him if he turned out to be the child of Frank Davis; A condition of which I'm still not convinced one way or the other.

I'm not sure that he directly would consider his wife and children to be inferior (she is bigger than him after all), but he still makes a distinction that shouldn't need to be made. African-Americans are descendants of Africans, so it's redundant to say that his children are descendants of African-Americans AND Africans unless he has a latent belief that there's is prominent difference. And second, by NOT self-identifying as an African-American, he's rejecting his American roots and/or his daughters Euro-American roots and what impact that would have on them. Obama's strongest connection to slavery is by marriage, not by blood.
