Mitt Romney leads Obama in first Gallup national tracking poll

Mitt Romney leads President Obama in the first Gallup national daily tracking poll.

Romney took 47 percent support from surveyed registered voters, while Obama took 45 in a poll conducted between April 11 and April 15. Romney's edge though is within the poll's three point margin of error.

Independents tipped the scale in favor of Romney, going for the former Massachusetts governor 45 percent to 39.

Jim if it is now the policy of Free Republic that Obama should be reelected, then I am very sorry you feel that way. I’m no RINO andI’ll leave it at that. Your hatred of Romney is so extreme that you are attacking conservatives merely because they believe Obama must be defeated by whoever is the nominee.

You posted to me some time ago that if Romney is nominated, FR would be half against Obama, half against Romney. But it seems the anti Obama part is now being invited to leave?

Are you actually going to take the position that if Romney is nominated, you will support the reelection of Barack Obama?

Well, you’re nothing but a fricken idiot if you believe that. I’ve never said and never will say that Obama should be reelected. Obama should be impeached and tried as a traitor. I’m saying that Romney should never be elected. He’s a fricken Constitution trampling, big government statist/progressive who will deprive you of your liberty quicker than you can say FU Jim Robinson!! See my chart posted elsewhere.

Thank you. I will not do anything to help Obama in any way win this election. I will exert all of my energies to his defeat at the ballot box...and I believe we can. I am constrained to do this for my kids and grandkids sake so they can carry on the fight in the future. They may not have that chance with Obama in office for another four years. Plain and simple.

So I will vote for Romney if he is the nominee (and still hope and pray that Newt can pull off a miracle) and I will do so like the survival of the Republic depends on it...because I believe it does...even though Romney is not anywhere close to my ideal candidate, coming in fifth for me behind Palin, Cain, Santorum and Newt whom I have supported to date in the GOP primaries

For the record, I'm ABO. I'd vote for Jack the Ripper if he was the GOP nominee this time.

I am not and never have been in my life a RINO so that’s one statement on which you are mistaken. In fact I don’t really give a good crap about the republican party versus what is best for this country.

I am trying to remain anti Obama here. I don’t know why you are so freaked over current events.

Been receiving all these emails inviting me to other sites. Have no real interest in them but you want me to go there. This is all very strange.

I criticized someone for calling it “bad news” that Obama would lose. That is campaigning for Romney?

Why are the people who say it is better to elect Obama, not being criticized by Free Republic? But Jim is calling me a RINO and telling me to write an opus and leave.

It’s really sad what is going on. Sure, I expect posters to call each other names and have fights. But the owner of the site is calling me a RINO when I have posted conservative opinions here on every topic for about 13 years?

I’ve always been respectful to Jim.

I think I’ve heard the “check story” from a few customers before.

Yes, the GOP convention is not until the end of August, but Newt is not going to win. You’re welcome to hold on to the idea that some how Newt will rise, but it is impossible at this point. The delegates are not going to revolt.

I told you I supported Newt. But he’s lost, it’s time to move on. And since when is Newt the FR candidate? Yes Jim Robinson doesn’t like Romney, but there are others that have just as much chance and more support then
Newt even if they are technically not “in”. That’s how small a chance Newt
has now. Are you trying to tell me FR can tell me I can’t vote for Romney
and have to vote for Newt? I may vote for neither if that is my choice, but
no one tells me who I will vote for! One would think as a conservative you
would know that. ABO (that has a chance!)

Really, you're calling me a Moron? If you are not Politically astute enough to realize the states left in play, the amount of delegates available, those locked into their vote, those already endorsing and committed to Romney, then you shouldn't be calling anyone anything.

Now run along like a good little deer and report me to Jim Robinson. I just reported the facts, didn't campaign for anyone.

I guess Newt must be a RINO to because he said if Romney is the nominee, he's behind him 100% and will campaign for him. So add another RINO to your list instead of doing something productive. Like someone up thread said, do you take pride in anointing yourself the FR Gestapo?

Romney is NOT the only alternative to Obama if we act and you aren’t a realist, sweetie; you’re acting like a quitter. The Republican Party does not now, nor has it ever, belonged to any particular faction. Four months is more than enough time to turn this show boat around.

I am on the deck of the Titanic, getting into the last lifeboat available, and you say I act like a quitter...., O.K. I guess, but I'm actually a realist.

You cannot turn an aircraft carrier around in 5 minutes and you cannot turn around a national campaign in 4 months. My guy, Gingrich is heads above anyone else in the race, on either side, but apparently the voters don't agree with me and are going to choose Romney. Now, they are not all stupid, some very influential people have stepped forward and are backing Romney as our best bet to beat Obama. We'd better be on board or we might see another disastrous 4 years of the idiot in chief.

I don’t understand why I read such horrible, power grabbing, anti-American stories about Obama on this site everyday and then am encouraged to not vote for his opponent, giving him another four years. Why post these articles telling us how bad Obama is? So when he wins we can have a scrap book tracing our demise to pass on to future generations?

“...apparently the voters don’t agree with me and are going to choose Romney...some very influential people have stepped forward and are backing Romney as our best bet to beat Obama. We’d better be on board or we might see another disastrous 4 years of the idiot in chief.”

I can see your point of view, truly I can.

Some of my closest friends voted for Obama even though I was able to prove to them during the summer of 2008 that his family claimed, through interviews with many African publications, that BHO2 was born in Kenya.

It is a shame that more folks do not do research on candidates but maybe I have a gift to recognize honesty when I hear and see it. Neither Obama nor Romney are honest men, period. They snooker people into seeing them, not as they are, but as the viewer wishes to see them.

Terrycarl, past is prologue here in this election. BHO2 is not going to improve his performance during a second term and Romney will not magically morph into a conservative respecting limited government. MR is a national socialist with no respect for our constitutional rights.

A point to remember: Ronald Reagan was polling 30% in October, 1980, yet he went on to win the Presidency in November.

Anything can and will happen in the next 7 months. All it takes is people like you, me, and whole Hell of a lot of chutzpah!

No one here is hell bent on ensuring another 4 years for Obama in the White House, in fact, quite the opposite. What we are determined to do is prevent a self-avowed progressive, a socialist named Mitt Romney, from seizing control of the Republican Party.

George Soros has said that there is no difference between Romney and obama. He should know and has no reason to lie.

What we are proposing is to take back our party from the nabobs of negativism and run a conservative as the next Republican nominee.

This isn’t over ‘til November, and a lot can happen in 7 months.

Am I actually posting to a little kid? You’ve called me a moron twice (sophisticated word choice/s) and seem to enjoy running to the owner of the site to “tell” on people that you assume aren’t following the rules. You also don’t address any of the things actually said to you, just name call. Are you going throw a temper tantrum when Newt endorses Romney? Because it’s going to come to that point. I suggest you put yourself in a time out when that happens, for every one’s sake. We all know you’ll add him to your RINO list, and claim you knew it all along. Just a little refresher and maybe you can answer this time: Newt has said he will support the nominee 100% and campaign for him. He has said on Greta it will probably be Romney. He says Romney is 100% better then Obama. If people are wrong for saying the same thing on this site, yet you agree and support Newt, I guess I will be forced to call you names and report you.

And if you're thinking third party, just vote Obama and get it over with. I am not voting for Romney in my Primary on the 24th. Yet in my analysis Romney will have enough delegates on or about June 5th. Once again, reality, not endorsement.

I forgot to add, if you can give me a way that we can, at this point, run a candidate that has true blue Conservative credentials as the GOP nominee, I’m all in and will help anyone organize, get out the vote, and I will give my hard earned money to that candidate. But after analyzing all of the data, I see no way of doing this at such a late date, and it is late in a Presidential election year. Like I said, third party won’t do it. And delegates, the ones that can, are not going to switch candidates at the convention with all of the endorsements Romney has received. He’s practically already been endorsed by any potential conservative candidate you may want to put up against him!

You don’t have to believe George Soros if you don’t want to, but he never lies. He doesn’t have to.

And do your own research on Mitt Romney, like I have done.

Understand this: the nomination process is not over. There are 4+ months left to go until the convention in Tampa. Anything and everything can happen in that span of time.

The Tea Party managed to put a million people onto the streets of Washington, D.C., a couple years ago, and I believe Conservatives can take their party back from the frightened Country Clubbers who are terrified Obama will seize their wealth and deluded by Romney’s flashing money around and talking down his opponents as he has no posititve record to run on himself.

Our choice, and there really isn’t any other, is to back the only person running who has actually changed government, and that is Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich doesn’t have to get to 1144 delegates to effectively block Romney. After that first vote of delegates in Tampa when Romney can’t get the nomination free and clear, the whole convention is up for grabs.

I swear, McCain’s staff ran a campaign to elect Obama. They did not permit the lion’s share of Obama’s dark background to be exposed and they only attacked Gov. Palin. I am sure these are the same kind of people who have put a guarenteed leftist loser up against Obama.

I hate to say it, but put down June 5th on your calendar. He'll reach the required delegate count. Not saying I'm happy about it, just looking at state numbers. And they won't revolt at the convention.

Newt lost to Ron Paul in at least one Primary, couldn't make the ballot in other states, got about 5% of the vote in others. If delegates were going to revolt what makes you think they'd pick Newt? Can't agree with you that George Soros doesn't lie. The man supports every leftist, Progressive organization there is. He'd say anything to get what he wanted. I've heard him talk about Global Warming and call George Bush a war criminal. He's a lying Nazi that was born to a Jewish family. He manipulates Free Markets world wide for his own benefit.
