Newt Gingrich, a man divided
The Washington Post ^ | 04/16/2012 | Rachel Weiner

Here’s a series of recent quotes in which Gingrich appears to be a man divided.

* “If [Romney] can't get to 1,144 on the 26th of June, the last primary, then it is going to be a wide-open electronic convention for 60 days of talking among the American people.” — CNN interview, March 26

* “Either Romney will self destruct, or Romney will be the nominee.” — Lunch with supporters, April 2

* “I’m trying to get to an open convention to see what would happen ... I’m not going to beat Romney head to head, but ... if we have an open convention, the truth is, nobody knows what would happen.” — ABC News interview, April 4

Gingrich’s campaign if one call it such has been a quixotic quest for the nomination. No wonder he’s been called a “Hindenberg ready to explode.” The only real electable alternative to Romney was Santorum. This primary battle is now over.

If Newt is no threat, what’s with the story hit piece from the washington post. santos quit before he even went through the PA race-that should be a story there. Santos divided the conservatives and gave us Romney, the liberal. The libs hate Newt so I like Newt.

Cain is backing Milt now and I have a feeling, more holdouts like Bachmann will be doing that as well. Add to that the fact that Newt hasn’t gained any ground in any of next weeks 5 contests and it looks very bleak. As Dandy Don used to sing...

“Turn out the lights, the party’s over.”

I still think that Newt can win Texas and North Carolina.

Yep. Santorum was our one (imperfect) chance to stop Romney but Newt siphoned off just enough conservative votes to cost him Michigan and Ohio which would have been game changers.

I really hope that you step over the line and Jim bans your small, vindictive little butt.

We don’t make gods out of our politicians. And who the hell do you think you are to draw lines? If you can’t stand rigid analysis, you need to take a leave of absence.

One thing is certain.... your Saintorum sure isn’t going to be living in the White House, thank God.

Well he sure would have had a shot had it not been for Gingrich whose quixotic campaign is now seen with amusement even by penguins. Yes, we got Romney because Gingrich helped Romney win in MI and OH. Every sane political commentator agrees with this including the Romney Team.

It may a bit premature to thank the Almighty. We could wind up with 4 more years of Obama which would be very much worse than Santorum.

The real news is that Newt still believes that he can get enough delegates to win without Santorum supporters.

If Romney’s at 57 nationally, and Newt’s at 19 - even giving Newt generous adjustments, puts it at 43-33 in TX, and around 47-30 in North Carolina. WV, KY and AR are about 45-31 or thereabouts.

NE, Romney is still under 50. Everywhere else is going to be Romney > 50 percent.

If Newt wants to win a state, his best chance is TX, but he’s down big.

“Sane political commentator” is an oxymoron.

And I believe everything the “Romney Team” says. They are very reliable.

Newt didn’t campaign in MI or OH. It was Rick’s to win or lose. Myth out spent Rick with negative ads.

Place the blame where it belongs.
