Gingrich In North Texas, Insists Republican Primary Not Over Yet
CBS-DFW ^ | April 16, 2012 | Jack Fink interview with Newt Gingrich

Posted on 04/17/2012 1:57:06 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

RICHARDSON (CBSDFW) – Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says he’s not leaving the Presidential race anytime soon. “I’m the tortoise in this race,” Gingrich says. “I’ll just keep coming forward and I’m still here.”

Before 75 supporters in a packed Richardson restaurant along Central Expressway Monday afternoon, Gingrich sounded upbeat.

He told the town hall meeting, “I certainly felt a lot more encouraged by donors than discouraged by the elite media.”

But he’s facing an uphill climb.

Jack Fink: “Mitt Romney is on his way to the nomination, mathematically you can’t win, so what’s your rationale for staying in the race?”

Newt Gingrich: “It’s interesting, in Colorado this weekend, the delegates chosen were 13 for Romney and 23 not for Romney, and I don’t think any of the national news media picked it up yet. The inevitability train didn’t seem to get across the Rockies. I’m campaigning here, I’m campaigning in North Carolina, in Delaware, in Pennsylvania, tomorrow, I’ll be in New York for two days this week. I think we still have the right to have the last conservative standing, and make the case for conservatism.”..........................

I wonder why no one ever thought of that. Newt can win the primary, by losing almost every state. Brilliant strategy.

God works in mysterious ways.

I would rather have Newt than Mitt, who I will absolutely not vote for, but all Newt is doing at this point is fund raising.

They're ALL fundraising. Why is it a sin that Newt is too?

Did you hear his NRA speech? The one where HE got the standing O's but it was Mitt Fox News showed clips of....

National Rifle Association Meeting - Part 1 Newt Gingrich Speech 1:00:18 (follows Mitt Romney – Rick Santorum follows Newt)

Was Mitt throwing tea "overboard" in 1994?

Maybe you’re right, maybe I missed the news story that reported the massive Newt Surge that will carry him to victory in every single remaining state.

I'm with you!! I don't think Newt is going to win, but here's what might happen...

Romney will not pick up the required minimum number of delegates and we are going to go to that convention in Tampa and bring your butt kissing rino house down!

The RNC/GOP will be full of contention, controversy and utter strife. I'm hoping the likes of which the party has never seen! As it stands right now I think we are in a political WAR in the republican party, one which HAS to be fought before we can demolish the liberal cause! Rinos/moderates are going to be shocked when conservatives tell you to go take a long walk on a short pier and decide to finally bring the hammer down!

Conservatives HAVE to rid this party of these Liberal Policy Appeasers...Newt can lead us!

The inevitability train didn’t seem to get across the Rockies>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Ronald Reagan faced a similar situation.

I wonder whether Newt can pull it off.

GO NEWT!

The media wants to pick the GOP nominee.

Was Richardson Newt’s only stop in Texas on this tour or were there other rallies? I haven’t seen any info either way.

I don't know of other public appearances in Texas. But then the media isn't exactly following his campaign.

Steve Pfost/Staff Photographer Mickey Margetis, 81, of Dallas hugged Gingrich during the town hall meeting Monday in Richardson.

"Having vowed to press on with his presidential campaign despite long odds, Newt Gingrich campaigned in North Texas on Monday, urging supporters to vote for him in the state's May 29 primary, The Dallas Morning News reports. U.S. Reps. Joe Barton of Ennis and Michael Burgess of Flower Mound, who have said they'll continue to support Gingrich as long as he remains in the race, joined the former U.S. House speaker at a restaurant in Richardson, where he said when asked whether he should withdraw from the race that "having a voice for conservatism is healthy for the Republican Party and helpful to America." Ha! I love it.

This is classic Newt. Never give up, old boy!!

Was watching Romeny yesterday - he can’t stand up to the media. He is absolutely unconvincing when he talks. I walk away in an “anti-climatic” state.

Of the 1100-some remaining delegates, Romney need under 500 and Gingrich needs OVER 1000.

Gingrich would have to win about 95% of ALL REMAINING delegates to get the nomination.

The remaining primaries include CA, NY, CT, RI, NJ. None of those seem to be ‘gringrich friendly’ battlegrounds.

==

Someone posted last week that the EV count estimate showed Gingrich getting just over 100, if he goes up against Obama. In other words, he would lose worse than McCain did in 2008.

This is almost pathetic at this point.

You’re talking about Romney being the nomination, right?
Possibly the next President?
I would agree with you if that is what you mean by “pathetic”.

Otherwise, Newt may not win the nom but can’t he stop Willard from taking it as well?
Isn’t that how it goes to a brokered converntion?

And the big hook comes out from the curtain and drags romney’s pathetic liberal ass off the stage never to be heard from again!

Go Palin!
Go Newt!
Go USA!

Remember your words when obama makes mince meat of romney. There is no going back. Conservatives will fight to the end. If you think that's pathetic, you don't belong here.

And Romney needs more money to pay for his illegal staff in his mansion with elevators and support his other homes.

Nothing is TOO much when our country/Constitution is at stake. We can’t rely on you - but when Newt wins, you will have no problem benefiting will you? Off the back of others. You must be a liberal like romney/obama.

Even if Newt can pull out a win or two with proportional awarding of Delegates, there simply isn’t any plausible way for Newt to get to the magic number. I don’t like it, but the biggest RINO in the field has won period. I’ll bet every single Romney ad from this point on will be focused on Obama and not even mention Newt.

It is both pathetic that Romney is the Nominee and pathetic that some think Newt is still in the race. Newt can not stop Willard at this point.
