A Lincoln Park mom who continued to receive food stamps after winning a $1 million lottery prize has been charged with two felony counts of welfare fraud after failing to report her winnings to the state.
Attorney General Bill Schuette said 25-year-old Amanda Clayton is facing two counts of Welfare Fraud – Failure to Inform, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. The charges were filed Tuesday in Lincoln Park’s 25th District Court.
Schuette said investigation revealed that Clayton received public assistance from August 2010 through March 2012, but was employed from June 2011 through October 2011. It’s alleged that income from Clayton’s employment during that time period was never reported to Department of Human Services officials, as required by state law.
Additionally, on September 12, 2011, Clayton won a $1 million jackpot in the “Make Me Rich!” game show sponsored by the Michigan Lottery. It is alleged Clayton also failed to report the lottery winnings as income.
Schuette said as a result, from August 2011 through March 2012, Clayton allegedly collected approximately $5,475 in food and medical assistance benefits for which she would otherwise have been ineligible.

She certainly deserves the maximum sentence. In the original TV interview, she was absolutely indignant that she had done anything wrong and that she deserved every penny of that food stamp check.
But it will be a slap on the wrist, as it’s her “first offense”. A piddling fine, something in the order of a week’s worth of the interest on her lottery winnings, and “probation”, i.e., a warning that if she’s ever again on food stamps and wins another multi-million dollar lottery, she will eventually inform the state.
I find her comments indicative of the society of sheeple in which we live.
“I thought that they would cut me off, but since they didn’t, I thought maybe it was okay because I’m not working … I feel that it’s okay because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay. I have two houses … It’s just hard, you know. I’m struggling,” she told WDIV.
And what part of "entitlement" don't you understand?
Irony can be so ironic sometimes.
I bet she has/does a lot of things that most of us would consider luxuries, even before her lottery win.
We have to pay for her necessities so she can spend on her wants.
Big deal, they caught one useless eater. She will be fined and hit the streets to enjoy her winnings. She should be in prison for 10 years but I don’t see that happening.
Now, if they did something about illegals getting welfare I would be excited. They have been raping this country for years with liberal approval.
Speaking of entitlements, I had one at my register yesterday trying to use her card and it wouldn’t work. I kept telling her it wasn’t being accepted and she kept trying. She called the service and it told her she had $125.00 but the account read zero on my machine (the money wasn’t available yet). She was beyond angry and I called a manager over and she was angry. The manager told her that the account read zero and this fool had a temper tantrum, reached in her purse and pulled out a fifty dollar bill to pay.
She stomped off and it took every bit of strength I had not to slap her face. The customers behind her were livid at her. I told one angry woman that that person was a creation of the liberal feel good entitlement program. She agreed. I face this trash every day. It wears me out!
That $50 was supposed to buy her a carton of Newports.
Liberals have destroyed the character of a huge group of people in order to feel good about themselves as “good people” who “care”.
When I pointed out to a lib how leftist welfare policies have completely destroyed the black family structure, she looked as if I HAD slapped her.
Well, her hair and nails were done, but she looked more like the Marlboro type. I guess I took her fashionista allowance.
It allows them to feel good while the rest of us pay so they can do so. The whole thing makes me sick.
Maybe we should start a “slap a liberal day” so we can ALL feel good. :)

In general, dumb people win the lottery, because a large number of smart people know not to play.
I’m sure she feels entitled to public assistance.
I’m sure she feels that the million dollar prize is hers to spend as she wants, while the taxpayers are supposed to feed her and give her benefits. She can’t be expected to dip into the million to pay ongoing everyday expenses, can she??? (sarcasm)
What kind of attorney does she have? I can’t believe she could end up in prison. Pay the dam fine, pay restitution, settle this case. I’m sure something can be worked out so she doesn’t lose her freedom.
Greed and Stupidity are very close cousins. In this case, it appears as if they’ve inbred.
