Fracking causes earthquakes, studies confirm

Two separate studies are providing insights into the earth-shaking consequences of the controversial gas extraction process known as fracking.

Both studies confirm that hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, can trigger manmade earthquakes. The process involves blasting water, sand and chemicals deep into the ground to fracture rock to obtain oil and natural gas.

What’s the depth of fracking vs the depth of the observed earthquakes?

It is only slightly less believable than Phrenology.

Around here the “Waterkeepers” are trying to tell people that pumping water 2500 feet into the ground will cause the water to flash over to steam and cause massive explosions.

The only problem is that temperatures at that depth here in southern Michigan are only some 70 or 80 degrees if that.

“the Global Warming, Ozone Hole folks”

“the Global Warming, Ozone Hole, lead-ban, fracking-ban folks”

If it’s fun or makes sense fuggedaboutit .... these people live in fear that somewhere, someone might be enjoying him/herself putting the pedal to the metal behind a V-8, or shooting at bulls-eyes, ducks or pulling big-mouth/bronzeback/whiskered `river kittens’ out of the water.

PJ O’Rourke has a name for that type of person: Funsucker.
Funsuckers are the malicious, diseased people who live in a state of both fear and envy regarding people enjoying life and living well. Funsuckers activley seek to piddle in the corn flakes of others.

They are out of their fracking minds. They just want to end America as a major economic force.

The left are made up of traitors.

Ok, I know most in here wouldn’t believe a scientist if they said the sun rises in the east, but who do we consider a “real” scientist? One with a crewcut?

Average oil well depth is under 8000 ft.

Depth
The depth where the earthquake begins to rupture. This depth may be relative to mean sea-level or the average elevation of the seismic stations which provided arrival-time data for the earthquake location. The choice of reference depth is dependent on the method used to locate the earthquake. Sometimes when depth is poorly constrained by available seismic data, the location program will set the depth at a fixed value. For example, 33 km is often used as a default depth for earthquakes determined to be shallow, but whose depth is not satisfactorily determined by the data, whereas default depths of 5 or 10 km are often used in mid-continental areas and on mid-ocean ridges since earthquakes in these areas are usually shallower than 33 km.

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/glossary.php

1 mile = 5280 feet

8000 ft = 1.5151 miles

shallow earthquake < 37km 22.99 miles 5 km = 3.11 miles

Mid depth earthquake Depth 70 - 300 km
Deep depth earthquake Depth Depth 300 km and greater

I want everyoen to be aware and be prepared for the dear leader to begin enacting laws to prevent frackign/drilling etc based o nthe notion that big oil are ‘eco-terrorists’- infact, be prepared to be labelled an eco-terrorist if you support drilling and energy independence-

I would liek to know though how they linked ANY earthquakes with ANY specific deposit of salt water deep below the surface- what exactly is the direct link proving the water caused ANY particular tremor? While we’re on the issue- I’d like expers to prove that particuulates from someone’s cigarette in a parking lot, or outdoor venue caused cancer in someone- to show the exact direct link/evidence proving said cigarette’s particular particulates caused aq person’s cancer- but since when did experts have to actually prove anything? All experts have ot do is say ‘We have shown that it does’ and that’s apaprently enougfh for lawmakers- they don’;t even have to show HOW they supposedly ‘proved’ it- thgey just have to SAY it

[[a “remarkable” increase of quakes in the U.S. midcontinent since 2001 is “almost certainly” the result of oil and gas production.]]

That’s wierd because charts from the government’s own geological website showed no real increase in quakes- and the end of that sentance saysd ‘almost certainly due to oil production’ Again- Where is hte evidence for this? Where is the direct correlation- Where is the direct evidence PROVING an increase MUST be from oil production?

I was actually agreeing with your post about fracking being a good service.

Why you consider that an acostation? I don't know.

Peace.

If we could drill that deep we wouldn’t need oil (FOR FUEL) ... just water for steam. Even on top of a Volcano (like Yellowstone)

We have earthquakes on an hourly basis somewhere on the Island of Hawaii and there’s no fracking here....just your normal lava flow going on 29 years now.
