Governor Christie's budget and tax policies, his recent trip to the Middle East and longtime support of Mitt Romney can all make national news these days. But so can his weight and even reports of sleeping at a recent rock concert.
And some of Christie's prior decisions and statements are getting a much closer look now that Romney appears the likely GOP presidential candidate, with Christie probably on the short list for Republican vice presidential running mates.
Although he was not mentioned by name, even the White House last week offered a sharp rebuttal to Christie when it criticized the governor's challenge to one of President Obama's key economic policies.
Yet Christie, who is a little more than two years into his first term in statewide office, says he relishes the criticism and believes constituents see right through it.

Virginia, Florida, Jersey, Maine, New Mexico, Louisiana, Nevada, Wisconsin, and Michigan are states being led by decent Republican governors. Our "bench" is very deep.
You have a heck of a man in Wisconsin. Well spoken, calm, dignified and his vision is clear. He would make a good president one day - a solid adult.
Scott’s pandering on the Zimmerman affair lost me and Christie is a big, fat, offensive RINO. I don’t think Jindal has what it takes as a national candidate, nor do I expect LePage to go nationwide.
I think Martinez, Sandoval, McDonnell, Walker and Snyder are all quite impressive.
But you’re right, the GOP has a very good crew coming along. I’d also like to see some current tea party House Reps step in as governors soon.
The press is always eager to vet any politician who might suddenly take on a role on the national stage.

Christie as a governor of NJ is far more valuable to the GOP than he ever would be as a veep or veep candidate. Rubio or Paul or Ron Johnson are GEOMETRICALLY more important in the Senate than they would ever be as veeps.

Closer scrutiny? How hypocritical!
Does the name Sarah Paling ring a bell, anyone? So, two years of governor's experience is good enough for Christie but not for Palin? Resigning before end of term would be acceptable for Christie but it was a world ending event when Palin did it.
Double standard for citizen legislators and the political syndicates.

Christie would make a wonderful VP for Romney. Old Chris has been a great caddy for the country club Democrats.
Chris Christie is no Conservative. There is a Conservative NJ site which hss information about him. NJ people are trying NOT to let AGENDA 21 rule them. Christie seems ready to sign it into law.
