Tired of paying for illegal aliens? Demand passage of H.R. 2885: Legal Workforce Act

Now that you have written your check and sent the IRS some of your hard earned money to help feed Barack Obama’s regime here’s a suggestion for what to do to fight back.

Get behind the effort to pass Republican Representative Lamar Smith’s Legal Workforce Act (LWA) HR 2885. This bill would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act and order the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) to develop a system for determining the citizenship and work eligibility status of all alien workers. As envisioned by Representative Smith this system would have DHS establish an employment eligibility verification system (EEVS), patterned after the E-Verify system.

Introduced on September 12, 2011 the LWA would require employers to be part of the process of constructing an EEVS for their workers by attesting, under penalty of perjury, that the individual in question is not an illegal alien. To meet this responsibility, employers must obtain and record the individual’s social security number and examine specified documents that would establish the individual’s identity and employment authorization. The bill also requires that the alien attest that he or she is a U.S. citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the United States.

The Texas Congressman’s bill also provides for fines and or imprisonment for anyone knowingly using someone else’s social security number or other identification. The LWA would use a reasonable timeline of between six months and two years to phase in employer compliance with the proposed regulations.

Moreover it requires verification for federal, state, or local government employees and certain employees who require a federal security clearance as well as certain employees assigned to work in the United States under a federal or state contract.

This is a good law for Americans and honest immigrants. Once enacted it would insure all workers are legal workers. It would put the weight of law behind honest employers who want to verify the status of their workers.

Smith’s law would require the Social Security Administration to notify the owner of a Social Security number when it discovers it is being used by another person, and tell employers when it finds multiple use of a number.

Merely putting this law to work for us could free up countless jobs and put our economy on the fast track to recovery from the damage Obama has done. If your Representative has not joined the list of co-sponsors get his/her office on the phone and demand to know why. We have a country to save.

This title is misleading. It implies that it is about cutting illegals off the public dole when instead it proposes fines for employers for hiring them to work.

How about just cutting them off the public dole?

Order an investigation of Obama's birth certificate (43%, 17 Votes)

Order drilling across America (40%, 16 Votes)

Order the passage of a federal budget (17%, 7 Votes)

Total Voters: 40

These laws are already on the books...requiring proof of citizenship when before employment can be granted. Employers do not adhere to them and DHS or ICE do not enforce them.

Enforce the laws that are already in place for crying out loud.

How about a verification process for both employment and public assistance?

We don’t need an act to make employers cops. We need and act that requires government agency like IRS and ICE to work together to enforce law we already have. We also need a law that puts all the expense of employing someone on their paycheck; workman’s comp, unemployment, employer share social security and call those government mandates untaxed income.

RE :”How about a verification process for both employment and public assistance?

The employment one concerns me a bit (real theme of this thread.) The Senate VERY recently passed a bipartisan bill that allows the Feds to revoke a passport for failure to pay federal taxes. They long have been revoking them over child support.
A employee ID would be used for all sorts of other social engineering purposes that it was not intended for.

Employers already have paperwork involved in reporting payroll to the government. To avoid the racial profiling complaint that will be raised they should require the IRS or the Social Security Administration to run E-verify on all incoming W-2s.

E Verify takes care of all of that.

THey already are.

I am for this law, as a matter of fact let's kill the H-1B program while we are at it.

I don’t go your church on immigration. The government has never been consistent at enforcing the law and wants employers to do the job as a mandate just like collecting taxes.
