What I want people to take away from my exchange with Bob Beckel
The Daily Caller ^ | April 18,2012 | Jennifer Stefano

Monday night on Sean Hannity’s “Great American Panel” I had a little tete-a-tete with Fox News contributor and notorious liberal wit Bob Beckel. Our exchange created a bit of a sensation because at one point during it Bob dropped the f-bomb — on air. But my issue with liberals like Bob isn’t their use of foul language; it’s their imperviousness to facts.

The exchange began during a commercial break. When Bob pulled out the “class card,” accusing me of being “well to do” (I say “accusing” because to many liberals, economic success is something to be ashamed of), I told him to stick to the issues and to name one of President Obama’s spending programs that actually benefits Americans. “Head Start” was his reply.

Head Start is an early childhood development program aimed at low-income children. It, too, is an example of a failed government program.

I told Bob about a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) report released in January 2010 called the “Head Start Impact Study.” While the report acknowledges that four-year-olds enrolled in Head Start showed modest short-term gains in some subject areas as a result of the program, those gains disappeared after a few years, and “no significant impacts were found for math skills, pre-writing, children’s promotion, or teacher report of children’s school accomplishments or abilities in any year.”

In fact, according to University of Maryland professors Douglas Besharov and Douglas Call, children who are enrolled in normal day care programs receive the same educational benefits as children enrolled in Head Start, and for less than half the cost ($9,500 a year per child vs. $22,600 a year per child).

I’ve had similar reactions from liberals to my blogs in the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. My blog on the Trayvon Martin case got the worst reactions from libtards, as you may expect. My latest, which was The Democrat War on Women and Society got only one such comment which raged about how everything is Bush’s fault.

Gotta smile when they get like that. Every time a libtard gets pissed off an angel gets their wings.

Liberals have no comprehension of numbers. The idea of spending $22k per child for a program that doesn't work would shock any sensible person. To a liberal, "if one child benefits, then it was worth the cost". To an adult, if far more children could benefit from spending that money elsewhere, then it was not worth the cost for a failed program.

Beckel didn’t know what the **** he was yelling about when he told Stefano she didn’t know what the **** she was talking about. I just think it makes Beckel feel good when he yells what the ****.

Yes, “wit” requires a sense of humor. Beckel, like many liberals, is completely dour and humorless.

I knew a woman who worked in Head Start giving aptitude tests to pre-schoolers chosen by the system for special attention because they were in a welfare family or whatever.

Every so often she’d see one of them a few years later; as it was a small town she had some idea how they were doing in school (usually not that well). There were many times where she just shook her head and wondered if their time in Head Start had helped them at all.

This was thirty years ago, FWIW.

I stumbled on a simple response to impervious liberals; I ask them, "Are you the type of liberal who thinks America should be punished and deconstructed for our success, or one of the type who just supports those folks?"

The long winded attempts to ambiguously say noting that I get in response are sometimes humorous. The true liberals will admit that they want America torn asunder and they think Obama is the guy who can do it.

There are several HeadStart locations here, in the Yakima Valley. They are nothing but an expensive babysitting service where the kids learn nothing.

My wife taught many of the product of HeadStart until she retired. Those kids knew no more than those who had gone through regular kindergarten.

Nothing has changed in education since Milton Friedman started talking, decades ago, about the difference between Input and Output in the educational system.

Input is how much money we put in.

Output is the results we achieve in terms of educated children.

As Friedman pointed out a long time ago, as Input increases, Output decreases.

Head Start has existed for decades. And decades.

What improvement has it shown?

Because to many liberals, economic success is something to be ashamed of.

What they preach never matches what practice.Keep them poor and you keep them under your thumb.

Even when I used to watch Fox, I refused to watch Beckel and for one simple reason. I couldn’t reach through the screen to get my hands around his throat.

notorious liberal wit Bob Beckel.

WIT? He's an overweight Clinton-thug bag of crap and hasn't been funny yet. WIT? Are you serious? Maybe Hannity thinks he a barrel of laughs, but I think he's totally pathetic . . . and certainly not a WIT!
