I never send food or drink back in a restaurant if it’s bad - I just never go there again. My mother-in-law does it every time she eats out, and treats the help badly to the point of embarrassment - I tell her she’s probably getting phlegm and boogers in her food but she won’t listen since she is a liberal loon and people would never do that.

I was once out to eat with distant member from the in-laws branch of the family tree who was SO rude and condescending to the help, it was totally humiliating to my wife and I to be seated with him.

The girl waiting on us looked like she wanted to pound him into the ground. I would have helped her. Plus she was black so I guess I don’t blame her if she thought he was a racist too.

I send food back sometimes; I inform the waiter/waitress politely and decline any replacement food and/or more drink.

And I never go back

You're squarely on the mark with that. I witnessed an aunt complain to a waiter that he had his thumb in her soup as he set it before her, whereupon he spit in it. Don't know whether she was mistaken about the thumb.
