People can compromise their values and principles all they want to justify their vote.

Is your solution to stay home this fall?

You have no idea what a "rim-job" is do you?

Nope, can't say that I do.One of the advantages of being an old geezer I suspect. Can I assume that it's not something you'd call your mother?

Jim: Go for the advertising. You should do very well with some good old conservative sponsors connecting up with the Freeper community. I think they will line up to be part of FR.

Just don’t take any Limbaugh cast-offs. LOL.

But you have made the right decisions for 15 years so I’m not going to argue with you if you stick to the current model.

Don't let the bass-tards wear you down, Jim.

If donations aren't doing enough, I for one would be fine with a paid monthly/annual membership model, and certainly that beats taking on advertising in any form.

If you consider memberships, I would suggest drop the registered-but-non-"member" privs back to a lower level, say for example, allow posting a max of 2 comments per day, no profile page, and no posting articles. Enough to wet the whistle but not a very significant load on the servers.

Registered "members" get to do everything that we registered folks do now, and get a listing on the "members" page (unless anonymity requested).

Plus maybe offer something like a bumper sticker or FR Pajama Patrol Deputy badge for those of us who would flaunt it. :)

Have to think about whether being a paid member grants any zot resistance. I think not immunity, but at the same time it seems like there might be something to balance there, like say suspension rather than annihilation. Hmmmmm...

Anyway Jim, do whatever you have to do to keep FreeRepublic online and independent. I can't live without it!!

What if we pay-pal’d to an account to buy FR merchandise, like T-shirts and hats and bumper stickers, and got 2,5 or 10 bingo cards depending on the amount?

I like the idea of FR merchandise as well. I’m sure we would all love to have some FReeper stuff, and it would provide great gifts to annoy the heck out of liberals.
A FR tee shirt or baseball cap is FRee advertising and a great conversation starter.

We can do lots of things, but I’m pretty confident that we’ll make it through this Marxist induced downturn in the economy eventually and all boats will rise with the tide including ours. We’re going to continue plunging ahead, tighten our belts, raise the funds, beg, borrow or steal (metaphorically speaking), install some new equipment, make improvements when and where we can and continue fighting the good fight, unencumbered and unbeholden to anyone but our like-minded loyal participants and supporters.

In other words, damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead!!

Thank you very much!!

Pathetic little tools, fantasizing relevance. It is good to have such enemies.

Actually, I sort of like the capitalist model. The nice thing about being conservatives is that we get to use it proudly, they have to use it hypocritically and guiltily. Nothing funnier than a street vendor selling a "Smash Capitalism" t-shirt for a profit. Well, yes there is - the guy who buys it.

Count me in.

The gaming thing just doesn’t flutter my putter.
Ive been to Vegas a couple times on business and I had a riot, but by my nature I was resistant to it.
I would have never gone if it wasn’t for work.

I know gazillions of people love the game of chance, but I’m not so sure any semblance of gambling would reflect well on FR.

And again, I am not familiar with gaming regulation.

I guess I’m thinking along the lines of a Live Thread that just happens to have a bingo game going on the lower-right corner of the screen.

Like we have debate live threads with drinking words? I dunno, just an idea.

I have wondered why a conservative site like Free Republic has what is in essence a PBS model of holding fund drives to pay for it’s operational budget while Democratic Underground draws a significant portion of it’s budget from a very capitalistic model of having ad revenue.

It really is past time to make a change that would provide Free Republic with a more predictable monetary stream. Other conservative forums have a model that includes advertising. It need not be anymore imposing than the current FReepathon posts on the top and in the thread pages.

It has to do with a type of oral-anal sexual activity involving a tongue and a sunless place. Just thinking about it is 100% EEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. As the man said, "Don't go there, son, it's just not a good idea."

Using that name on Jim is a disgusting slur, which sadly is typical of DU.

How about for those who donate $5 a month you get a white star, for $10 a month you get a green star, for $15 a month you get a blue star, for $20 a month you get a red star and for a dollar a day donor, you get the gold!

:p

or instead of stars its your name on the bottom of the posts?

I'm already a monthly contributor, and I'd definitely go in for some FR gear, and can think of a number of people who'd be getting such as stocking stuffers, et al if such merch were available.

That's funny.

Actually there may be a fundraiser in there somewhere. Maybe you can auction off zots of annoying troll posters. I can imagine a mini-freep-a-thon progress bar that moves toward the zot threshold...

Of course long time members could buy immunity - another way to raise money, so they could make annoying posts about Ron Paul, or Mittens or whomever. The zottee could ante up to fend off the zotters.

But you (and the mods) still push the button, and keep all the donations.

I think funding may ebb and flow, but you provide a great forum and resource and I am confident you'll find the support you need.

Of all the things about liberalism that puzzle me, it is their penchant for engaging in sexual perversion followed by their use of that same perversion as a pejorative.

It indicates a deep level of self-hate to me.

I don’t have a problem referring people to this site to read something. I can’t say from what I have seen, that I would ever do the same at DU.
