Obama’s dog days (Democrats pay for barking up the wrong tree)
The Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, April 18, 2012 | The Washington Times

The 2012 presidential campaign has become a dog-eat-dog contest. For months, Obama campaign operatives sought to make an issue of Mitt Romney carrying his Irish setter Seamus in a rooftop dog carrier during a family vacation in 1983. Some major media outlets picked up the non-story, and the Obama campaign buttressed it with an endless series of snarky tweets and barbs. The liberals are chasing their tails with this tale.

On Tuesday, the Daily Caller’s Jim Treacher juxtaposed the Seamus story with a passage from President Obama’s book “Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance,” in which he describes eating dog meat while growing up in Indonesia. The message Democrats were trying to establish was that Mr. Obama was kinder to dogs. The book snippet supplied the rejoinder: At least Mr. Romney never ate one.

On its face, the dog-eating anecdote is just as much a non-story as the adventures of Seamus. But it exploded over social media and Twitter, and within hours, even mainstream-media news hounds picked it up. Man bites dog is always news. It’s the kind of story that lingers, a humorous situation that lends itself to endless one-liners. (“Why are there no more Blue Dog Democrats? Obama ate them.”)

The Obama campaign is struggling to come up with a strong response, but nothing seems to stick. It can say the dog-eating took place when Mr. Obama was a child, that it was in a different culture or that the first family has not prepared dog in the White House. However, it cannot escape the ick factor, which will hound it until November. Now the Obama campaign will have to call off the dogs on Mr. Romney. Bo, the White House pooch, will have to retreat to an undisclosed doghouse until Election Day.

Obama chose, uhmmm Bill Ayres chose to put that fact into Obama’s book. Furthermore, someone programmed Obama’s remarks about eating dog meat into some of his speeches.

This is ridiculous... all designed to take people away from Romney's animal abuse.

I'm sorry..I can not stand the Communist in Chief, but Romney is an animal abuser and a committed leftist. If you want a flipping leftist..pick the one who eats them, not abuses them...it's more humane and tastes like chicken.

If the republicans can’t come up with something better than Romney, they have forfeited and Obama will walk right over them.

They said the same thing about Reagan and Carter in 1980. Just days before the Election, Carter was leading in the polls. He ended up conceding the Election before the polls closed in California.

In interviews with folks who'd experienced the situation first hand (imprisonment by the Japanese in WWII in Southeast Asia) it came out that "King Rat" (James Clavell) really is a more than fair representation.

Hope you guys have read it.

Now, down in Indonesia there were not large concentrations of Allied troops to hold in camps, but there were plenty of equally quite dangerous Chinese and mixed-blood people (buken asli in the words of Sukarno) the Japanese held in equally bad camps, complete with Korean guards.

A friend of mine was about 12 years old when the Japanese came to Java. Due to his age he was allowed to go in and out of the camp where his older relatives were held. He regularly hunted and dressed an animal that we would call a "RAT", and that was his meat, and their meat, and the meat the Korean guards got as well.

People who tell you folks don't eat dog, or rat, or endangered birds, or cats, or whatever in such and such a country have really never experienced life under the gun of a conquerer.

The interesting thing is not allIndonesians eat dog. In fact, majority of them don’t. Only certain ethnics, notably the Bataks, the Manadonese and the Ambonese do. These are Christian areas. Muslims don’t even want to be anywhere close to dogs.
