Dozens under arrest in China in connection with Bo Xilai scandal
China has detained dozens people with connections to Bo Xilai, it was claimed as the Communist party pledged to "thoroughly investigate" the politician and his wife's alleged role in the death of British businessman Neil Heywood.

At least 39 people are thought to be being held, alongside Mr Bo, in the seaside town of Beidaihe, a favourite retreat for Communist party leaders.
"The detainees include Xu Ming, who had a very special relationship with Mr Bo, and some of the people who worked with him," said Wang Kang, a well-connected independent scholar and public figure in Chongqing who is the only person with inside information on Mr Bo's removal from power to go on the record.
"The detainees are mainly people from Dalian and other places, not from Chongqing," he added. Mr Xu is one of China's richest men, a billionaire who heads the Dalian Shide industrial conglomerate. The 41-year-old has not been seen at the company since mid-March.
One of the people in custody is Xia Deling, the former party chief of Nan'an district in Chongqing, the area in which Mr Heywood's body was discovered, on November 15, in the Nanshan Lijing Holiday Hotel.
Mr Xia has been rumoured to have supplied the cyanide that killed Mr Heywood. However, Mr Wang suggested that this is unlikely. "Xia Deling was promoted from the countryside to his post in Nan'an, skipping up two ranks, so he was very loyal. But I do not think he would have personally obtained the poison," he said.

Bo's are not people you can jerk around. I suspect there are many people like Neil Heywood, foreigners with great connection to powerful Chinese figures. It is good for their health that they should not jerk their Chinese patrons around. I am surprised at Heywood's sheer lapse of judgement.

You can push around a person like this. She is a tough survivor.
Everyone is worried about the Bo in the White House becoming dinner, but this guy might be ending that way too.
This will expand beyond a “criminal investigation” into a purge and revenge. Divving up the loot (and there is a lot of loot) will encourage even more betrayals and revenge. Is there a leader who can manage to contain/control all this?

The words out of Beijing is that they started to realize that this thing can get out of control, threatening the communist regime itself. They are reportedly trying to reach a deal, between anti-Bo faction and the rest, to contain the fallout. I think they should for their own good. I think nobody in top leadership has enough power to single-handedly carry this purge to the end and prevail.

China won't be getting far in political development. Either you have corrupt incestuous cabals of powerful political figures, bureaucrats, and associated businessmen, or retro red cabals like Bo, though they are equally corrupt and greedy. I am not saying that Bo is a nice guy. But, I am saying that the view that Bo is the bad guy and his opponents are good guys is not true.
People say about rosy scenario of China smoothly progressing politically. It won't be happening. Chinese drew lessons from Soviet Union's fall. So they won't be bowing out peacefully. Tension and conflict will rise among ruling elites.
The Chinese official facade that Bo is a bad guy and China will be moving forward after disposing of Bo is not the case. What awaits Chinese is QE to the n-th power to hold off eventual reckoning, which only opens the door for somebody worse than Bo.
Even without Bo, somebody with Bo's general idea will come forward. In current Chinese context, reform means "stick it to corrupt fat cats." That is how little people think and the idea of "reform" will be accordingly shaped. The reform movement will be like another reincarnated peasant uprising, which leads to Mao-like political system.
I don't root for anybody in this fight, but it is following exactly the path I projected. The accuser is no better than the accused, and ordinary Chinese appear to agree. Therein the cause for great concern by current ruling camp.

Seems like real danger to me. Maybe our President can exert his masterful influence and calm things down a bit.
I just think this is funny. Billionaires just disappear all the time! Nothing to see here!
If anyone wants to understand Chinese politics, just think of the Clintons in charge, and imagine that the USA was controlled by the Democrat party for the last 60 years
