Larry Elder: Gun control opponents are wise to fear Obama
Los Angeles Daily News ^ | 4/20/12 | Larry Elder

There goes the "paranoid" take-us- back-to-the-Wild-West National Rifle Association again, hysterically claiming that gun-control advocates are coming for their guns.

Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the NRA recently accused President Barack Obama of a secret agenda, to "lull gun owners into a false sense of security." Meanwhile, the president, says La Pierre, engages in "planning and plotting, behind closed doors, to launch a massive anti-gun onslaught when the time is right."

Is there a reason for this fear? Or, is the NRA, as one local reporter puts it, "intentionally alarmist"?

Five-four Supreme Court decisions can do that to the Second Amendment crowd. In the important 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller case, four members of the court actually said that the Second Amendment recognizes a right to keep and bear arms - but only as part of an organized state militia, such as the National Guard. Five justices said that people have an individual right to keep and bear arms, striking down the D.C. law that outlawed handgun ownership even in the home.

This draconian D.C. law was similar to one in Chicago, Obama's adopted hometown. Obama supported that law, which the Supreme Court, in McDonald v. Chicago, struck down as well. Case closed? Hardly.

If voters give Obama four more years, he will likely have two or more Supreme Court vacancies. One or two more left-wing justices, like Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, can flip a 5-4 Heller case the other way.

"Paranoid"?

Nelson Shields, the founder of the organization which later became Handgun Control Inc., said in 1976: "Our ultimate goal - total control of handguns in the United States - is going to take time. My estimate is from seven to ten years. The first problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. And the final problem is to make the possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition - except for the military, policemen, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs and licensed gun collectors - totally illegal."

"Intentionally alarmist"?

In a 1993 editorial, a major newspaper urged Congress to outlaw almost all firearms:

"Only by slicing away at this nation's already vast and deadly arsenal of guns will we reduce the violence and the fear. You will not feel safe, your children will not be safe, until there are almost no guns on the streets and in homes. No guns, period, except for those held by law enforcement officials and a few others, including qualified hunters and collectors. Can Congress impose such a ban? Federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, have consistently upheld a variety of firearms restrictions, even prohibitions, over the last 60 years."

"Intentionally alarmist"? Smile when you say that, pardner.

So, you wouldn’t let them take what you have and simply die that night.

I like to think I'll have some caches stashed about. That is if I can ever recover my drowned guns at the bottom of the Gulf Stream from that tragic boating accident on Jan 21, 2009. Terrible.

And you also must think they can get everyone’s guns on the same night. Yep, they’re that good.

There's a reason they're referred to as Jack Booted Thugs. Final Solution

They're not going to get everybody's at the same time, but I would hazzard a guess that there are several lists and those lists have gradients based on several types of criteria, LIKE: NRA Life Member/Instructor, Gun Magazine subscriptions, CCW permit holders, especially those with long histories and over multiple states over the years; Former military, extra points if branched in the combat arms and still more for officers or senior enlisted. Special ops would be top of the list, of course. Other subscriptions to things like military mags or Soldier of Fortune. How about re-enactors? Or folks who ever participated in both IDPA or IPSC competitions? How about active in conservative political causes or active letter writers to the Editorial pages? How about freepers? Lemme tell you there are enough ways to factor down the 80 million gun owners into a couple of high priority lists that could be easily handled by special teams just as was apparent in 1938. If they get enough of us in the initial sweeps, the real sheep will crawl to their new masters with alacrity!

What makes you think they're going to just "take your stuff" and leave alive, kicking and free? If you declare war on a man, you never leave him alive and unharmed in your rear area so he can cause "field expedient" havoc later. Simple matter of strategy.

What do you think, Travis?

The jackbooted thugs can’t all move onto federal property, it won’t happen. They live among us, and will continue to do so, so a firebase is not a correct comparison. They want to live normal lives, and it could get risky crossing the parking lot at Target. Or playing golf, or fishing. They don’t live in body armor.

One strategy is to have a couple of guns meant to be given up, an old revolver or two, say. And if they are taken, take that as a declaration of war.

Seems I’m not so full of beans, after all.

Buy some cheap guns, a shotgun and a handgun and some ammo for them to make it look good. Have them available to give the JBTs, satisfying their “quota” for your house. Admire their MP5 and wonder (silently) if they keep it at home. Sure is purty.

The main thing is to REMAIN FREE and get the word out.
(Read the gun confiscation part of “Turner Diaries”)

Buy a “spare”, intentionally, to lend a person in need until they can acquire their own purty MP5.

Some folks may choose to go down in a blaze of glory during a SWAT gun confiscation raid. That's their option. I think it's smarter to take the gun confiscation as a personal declaration of war. Any LEO/FLEA who goes out on such raids will soon be made aware that many millions of Americans consider him a traitor to the oath he took to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

“I was just following orders” or “I'm not the departmental legal expert” or “I really need this LE paycheck” will not be acceptable excuses for treason.

I know it just IRKS THE CRAP out of some men to think about the idea of “just giving them my guns”. But to do otherwise is to be engaging them on THEIR terms, numbers, and timetable instead of YOURS.

If you “scenarioize” it out, though, you’ll have some giveaway guns, with your “good stuff” in a location not easily found, and then be able to take your time, organize, pick your targets and timetable, and make a much smarter resistance at a later time.

That is always an option. Some old/infirm folks may not be up to that, and they may decide to take out some traitors on the spot. Their call.

Actually that is a good idea and I already have some old POS "heirlooms" that will fill the bill, but that wasn't what you were suggesting at first, it seems to me.

The main thing is to REMAIN FREE and get the word out.(Read the gun confiscation part of “Turner Diaries”)

I don't hold much hope for that one. First, I remember Travis' EFAD series where the guy digs up an nice FN/FAL to use on the JBT's and they just killed him out of hand. Nobody at that moment of a nascent tyranny in the making is going to want to leave anybody who knows how to seriously handle a firearm, alive and well in their own rear area. Many folks will just disappear into the Gulags or just plain disappear forever. Remember the lists?

Buy a “spare”, intentionally, to lend a person in need until they can acquire their own purty MP5.

This isn't needed. You answered it in the second part of your post. It's a time honored doctrine of Special Forces. They call it "Trade Up." If you have a knife (or a rock) you can GET a handgun. If you have a handgun you can GET a battle rifle. If you have a battle rifle you can GET belt fed or a mortar or, heck any number or combination of the above. That's how you equip an insurgency. Live off the enemy. But don't waste your own resources to give to somebody who already lost theirs. Go directly to the source and Trade Up!

By the way, I apologize if I sounded "snippy" in my first reply. It's near the end of the school year and the little monsters are really driving me mad. I'm down to my last nerve and .... they're ON it.
