Alameda County Supervisor Nadia Lockyer, who for two months has been embroiled in a sex and addiction scandal that riveted the Bay Area, told the Bay Area News Group today she is resigning from office.
Lockyer, the wife of state Treasurer Bill Lockyer, will tell her colleagues and constituents in a letter that she wanted to focus on the well-being of her 8-year-old son and recovery from chemical dependency and her alleged beating by her ex-lover.
"Today is a significant day for me personally and professionally," she told a reporter in the living room of their home in the Hayward Hills. "I think the public deserves and wants some answers and is tired of hearing about me and all this drama. I am resigning today as a mother. ... I need to resign and focus on the recovery of the assault and the abusive relationship, healing my heart and my psyche."
She said in the letter: "Without a doubt, being a mother is the most important role and duty of my lifetime. I can surely be a great mom and effectively represent the 325,000 plus constituents of District 2, yet not while also tredging the waters of early recovery from addiction and the aftermath of interpersonal violence. In AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous), days of sobriety are counted. In motherhood, the number of days with a healthy level of stress and tears should be too."

I did not think that was really an option, I would rather have seen her resign as a county supervisor.
This seems unfair. She married this guy and pretended to like him to get this job. Now she has to give up this job? So she pretended to like this guy for nothing? Life can really be unfair sometimes.
