A leading conservative politician said on Thursday that Islam did not belong in Germany, fuelling tension at a conference on integrating Muslims that also debated a controversial Salafist campaign to hand out copies of the Koran across the country.
"Islam is not part of our tradition and identity in Germany and so does not belong in Germany," Volker Kauder, head of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives in parliament, told the Passauer Neue Presse.
"But Muslims do belong in Germany. As state citizens, of course, they enjoy their full rights," he added.
His remarks added to a highly charged nationwide debate about a campaign by an ultra-conservative Salafist Muslim group to hand out millions of free German translations of the Koran to non-Muslims.
The conference was one of a series hosted by the government to improve the integration of the four million Muslims living in Germany, about half of whom have German citizenship.
Many came from Turkey in the 1960s and 1970s and their hard work contributed to Germany's post-war economic miracle. Germany has a population of about 81 million. …
Kauder's comments quickly drew fire.
"Volker Kauder is the last crusader for the conservatives. He is putting a bomb in the Islam conference," said senior opposition Social Democrat (SPD) lawmaker Thomas Oppermann.
"(He).. is denigrating and marginalizing all Muslims in Germany. That course is utterly wrong," he said. …

I predict Germany is the next ally Omuslim will throw to the wolves, just like he did Israel and Great Britain. Because he feels like your country has slighted his all precious islam.

No one is born Muslim. The instant one gives up the right to discriminate among belief systems is the instant one loses all liberty and freedom.
Muslims have go to Sala (Prayer) five (count them - 5) time each and every day. They have to close down ALL businesses during Sala, so since each Prayer session takes well over an hour - Close shop, walk to Mosque, wash feet, lay out your prayer rug (hopefully in the shade (most courtyards are open and it gets upwards of 120 deg plus at time), pick up your prayer rug, walk back to your shop, so a quick sponge bath (it is easy when you wear the Saudi “dress” and then open your doors and start business.
You are talking AT LEAST an hour involved and usually more. That amounts to about 6 - 7 hours taken out of your business day.
THAT my friend means that they have to stay late in the evening to get in anything close to a 8 hour day.
They usually eat their last meal VERY late in the evening. I’m talking 10PM at the very earliest (emphasis on the word VERY).
I used to find a nice Indonesian restaurant (Preferably Thai) and wait in their establishment sipping tea and eating a light meal, till Sala was over and the ARABS started filtering back to their shops.
Third country nationals were allowed to have customers in their shops but were not supposed to serve new orders which (of course they ignored unless a Matawa (Religious Police) came by). They would quickly disappear to the back room and sit until it was safe to come back out and we would all have a good laugh.
(Europeans, Americans Etc) were exempt from all of those rules but still affected by the resulting down time.
