Bullied Boy Suspended for Fighting Back
The Christian Post ^ | April 20, 2012 | Benge Nsenduluka

A nine-year-old Colorado boy has reportedly been suspended from his elementary school after standing up to a bully who was physically harming him.

Nathan Pemberton, a third grade student, claims that he was subject to beatings from another child and when he finally garnered the courage to stand up for himself he was punished and removed from West Elementary School in Colorado Springs, which his parents think is ludicrous, according to Mail Online.

"One kid kicked me in the back, then punched me in the face. Then I punched him in the face and then I got in trouble," Nathan told KDVR-TV.

Nathan had previously complained to the school about the constant bullying, but his parents claim that he did not receive the right assistance to properly resolve the problem.

What you said BUMP!

I told my sons - - and often reminded them - - that if they ever got in trouble or suspended from school for fighting or defending themselves from bullies, I had their backs completely. My only rule was that they themselves NEVER bully anyone (although I actually didn’t have to tell them that because it wasn’t in their nature anyway).

Unfortunately, the district I live in is the exception rather than the rule.

I don't disagree with that at all. We moved to another state to make sure our child wasn't going to be indoctrinated. I wouldn't have put our daughter in the local Catholic school in Delaware - the tuition wasn't the issue, it was the poor quality of the education - let alone a public school. To get a decent, not good mind you just decent, education in Delaware I would have had to move closer to the cesspool known as Wilmington and pay more for one year than my parents paid for 12 years of Catholic school for BOTH my brother and I combined.

I appreciate your comments, I really do. We have had numerous family discussions about changing tracks and it is not a closed issue. Virginia is offering more and more course work on line, especially for high school students and my daughter starts HS in September. We shall see.

Again, my thanks for your kind words.

{the closer a district is to a concentrated Democrat parasite nest (”city”) the more likely it is to irreversibly damage children who attend its schools.}

Very well put Lancey.... my sentiments exactly.

Public schools, ruining generation after generation, one life at a time.

So pathetic; but so true. Liberalism and 'it's' agenda at work. Hugs and continued 'spine' to the victim - and his family - despite the agenda. . .

Forget a 'line in the sand' time to 'draw the line'. . .

Thank you! Wish you were teaching in North Dakota! My 11 year old grandson is suffering from bullying, and has even been threatened by one teacher with a beating from her son if he stands up for himself. (investigations are pending, obviously)

I too have read that Education majors have the lowest scores.

For decades, it is said that the widest street in the world is West 120th Street in New York City, which separates Columbia Teachers College from the rest of Columbia University. Columbia is--or was--known for its academic rigor, whereas its Teachers College incubated much of the "progressive" education philosophy that now permeates America's public schools.

They make up for their low scores with their good intentions. Ha ha ha ha ha. Some of the most moronic people I've ever met were in public education, K-12, especially those in administration or student counseling.

One I know, who had gotten her master's degree in reading remediation, complained about Richard Mitchell estimate of this group's relatively deficient intelligence in The Graves of Academe saying, "That guy's a meanie! This [program] was the hardest I've ever worked in my life." I thought, "Yeah, I believe you and you've just proved the author's point."

Those that do it, and you know who you are, enjoy taking an incident here or an incident there and extrapolate it to any and every public school that exists. Guess what folks? You're wrong.

If you do a keyword search on this site for "zero tolerance," you will come up with hundreds of hits describing incidents in all parts of the country and in every type of community--urban slums, silk-stocking suburbs, rural towns, red states and blue states. Perhaps the frequency of "zero tolerance" outrages is exaggerated, but they occur far too often.

I was bullied in grade school. Back in 1974, I was in 2nd grade, I used to get picked on by this one kid. Mom told me that I had to defend myself or she would clobber me. The next time he picked on me, I slugged him back and we both got sent to the principal’s office and we got paddled. After that we became friends but I was scared that I’d get punished at home because of the paddling at school. I kept quiet. 1 day passed, then 2, then 3, then months and finally 20 years later, in 1994 I confessed. Mom said she would not have punished me and just today, if she knew this went on, she’d go up to school to raise Holy Hell. I figured even then, I would not have been punished but you got to remember, “8 yer old kid logic takes over” and you clam up.

Although this book is a bit dated, Ed School Follies: The Miseducation of America's Teachers (New York: Free Press, 1991) makes for a fun, yet disturbing read. The author visited education schools coast to coast to see how they were teaching teachers, and her findings ought to unnerve anyone concerned with k-12 education.

When I attended school in the 50s and 60s, the public schools were excellent as was discipline.

The only teacher with a real political agenda was Mr. Hester and he was extremely right wing so I got along with him just fine.

My 4th grader told me that some kid was picking on him. I told him to do this: 1. Tell the kid to stop. 2. If he doesn't stop, tell the teacher. 3. If he does it again, nail him so quickly and so hard it'll scare the crap out of him.

He did this and the kid left him alone. I asked him what the teacher said. He said he thought she didn't see it. Later, I talked to the teacher (an Indian, dot, not feather), who said she was glad to see him defending himself.

I spent far too much of my childhood running away from bullies.

My parents were Christians who were devout pacifists. They told me to always turn the other cheek and tell the teachers.

All that did was make me a tattletale who was still bullied and ostracized for being a tattletale. After many years of bullying, in 7th grade, I finally turned around after being hit in the head with a rock and landed a lucky punch square on the jaw of one of the instigators. He dropped like a sack of potatoes and no one ever bothered me again.

IMHO, it’s worth a suspension to get these punks to stop.

If I’d stood up to the bullies when I was 10, my life would be much better. Being a punching bag really screws you up.

Sorry you had such a hard time when you were a child. You were really a good kid in the middle some bad kids.

Sometimes things sound good in theory to parents but in practical terms they needed to intervene and handle it with the teachers, teach you to fight or move you disciplined school where bullying is not permitted. You can’t just let your kid be harmed.

When I was a young child we had to move every year. With so much practice I got real good at avoiding bullies but if I got attacked I had no self restraint and I knew how to fight,
