A cold front is moving through the WNC Mtns. and the Upstate. Expect a few storms this evening, with showers lingering through the night. An area of heavier rain moves through the NC Foothills and eastern part of the Upstate overnight.
Cooler air, gusty winds and lingering showers greet us on Sunday, with highs only in the upper 50's. Sunday nights' wrap-around moisture could fall as a rain/snow mix in elevations above 2500 ft, as lows fall into the mid 30's in Asheville, lower 30's in higher elevations. Light snow accumulations are possible above 3000 ft. by Monday morning!
While a late April snowfall is unusual, it's not a record for the latest snowfall in Asheville. That happened on May 25th, 1979.
By 6:00 P.M. I had put on every layer of clothing in my pack and was still freezing. Under 40° that night. I guess Asheville is prone to cold snaps.
