This is the only thread that I read on a regular basis. It must continue! So we have a few disagreements.....let’s call them debates:o) There has not been that much to talk about....it is discouraging to talk about what is happening to our country. Now is the time to fight and I for one will fight to the bitter end against what is happening to our country! This thread is our mouthpiece.

If we cannot wrestle control from the RINOs within our own party, then how will we ever win a national election from a 3rd party?

I understand this belief. BUT what I cannot grasp is that it is perfectly acceptable for Lieberman to be kicked out of the RAT party, run as an Ind - Bernie Sanders who is an avowed Socialist - both NOT RATS but 3rd party types - and yet they caucus with the RAT party and count towards who is in control of the Senate. WHY CAN'T TEA PARTY TYPES RUN AS A THRID PARTY FOR THE SENATE AND HOUSE AND PLEDGE TO CAUCUS WITH THE RINO PARTY?

Conservatives have to start somewhere since it is apparent the GOP is in firm control by the RINO elite. Look at what happened in the House with 85 new Freshman and how the Continuing Resolution and Debt Ceiling were handled.

It somewhat depends on the state. The last GOP senator from VT was jumpin’ Jim Jeffords who’s ACU rating of about 20 made Snowe and Spector seem conservative by comparison. A Rat can run there as an honest socialist without the slightest concern a true conservative would sneak through in a three way race. CT’s electorate isn’t quite as lopsided; without the edge of incumbency Lieberman wouldn’t have pulled off the D to I switch. Tea Party types might be able to do this in a sufficiently red state. A narrow Hatch win in Utah’s primary could trigger such if the state weren’t so Mormon; a third party challenge there seems too radical for them.

Conservatives have to start somewhere

The old saying is that the longest trip in the world begins with one step. Another old saying is if you start by saying it CAN'T be done, than nothing else matters. With that beginning, it WON'T be done, and that's a fact.

Which is not to say, let say as mine dog-eating President does alldatime....let me make one thing perfectly clear....I am NOT, at this time, advocating a third party.

My belief, and I sit here making my case only and if your mileage varies I respect that, is that the people who carry this country on their backs, Tea Party types I assert, simply will not accept a Romney governing like a mealy-mouthed moderate and without a lot of fuss and argument, a new party will spring from the electorate, this perhaps somewhere in the mid of Romney's term when the pressure of electing a communist and his thugs isn't so pressing.

Maybe it will be a matter of getting more Tea Party types in the House and heaven forbid that House of Lords called the Senate. Maybe it will be by electing Tea Party types to town councils across America, much like my guy and the likes of me struggling to guide him and to deal with campaign laws but by golly I CAN READ!

I saw Sussex county Delaware's GOP transformed into a work of beauty. We had to rent a bigger hall to accomodate those who were inspired and came out to run, change the rules, vote fair and square.

The people so desperately wanted something to believe in, to think that maybe, just maybe, WE THE PEOPLE really have the power.

The Blue Bloods, they have all the money, all the contacts, they even have the Media on their side via a liberal media here in Delaware that joins in on the mockery of the COD voters. They had secret side meetings, they ejected one of our favorite sons, they got Democrat Pete Schwartzkopf to publicly lambaste those who listen to talk radio, fools all. Do not tell me the Blue Blood elected GOP weren't on to this....it's local but very similar to national.

I'd argue it's not quitting to reject it outright. Us tar and pitchfork boobs, all we have are our numbers. Somehow we need to take our numbers away from them. A lackluster, middle of the road Romney presidency will make that a simple thing.

So I don't know how it's going to come down but....let me make one thing perfectly clear....I hope with all my heart, I pray with all my heart, that a President Romney somehow finds a leadership within him to wrest our ship of state back onto a straight course.

What's a "straight course" you ask? Too long for me to define but it's like that supreme court justice and the definition of pornography....I'll know it when I see it.

I appreciate your devoted and herculean task of putting this Sunday thread together for all these years. I know how hard it is to keep things going that others depend upon (e.g. coaching kids sports where parents expect it to go on forever and ever; or like Fish singing in the church Choir). FR and the Sunday Shows have both changed. I recall many weeks over 700 posts and now we’re around 150, with many devoted to sniping and off topic. We used to watch these shows and tear apart the Rat or Administration claims so Rush & Sean would have their “show prep” for the week. But the shows themselves are nothing but Dem infomercials and if an R does show, they are an apologist traitor or a prop to “fairness” (e.g. Grahamnesty, McLame). It is all very disspiriting. But we can’t give up. We just have to use a new route. ACORN and all O’s minions will be “occupying” Romney appearances, and will sit on and troll this and other good sites just to disrupt. We must adapt, improvise, and overcome. Semper Fi.

I think you made my point, spineless RINOs. No Republicans were willing to stand and fight. No Republicans were willing to do the heavy lifting of reducing G’ment size for various reasons. The current crop of senators, per your reasoning is too small, etc. Having a RINO as the Titular head of the party will get us more Socialist supreme court justices, more “No child left behind” type of programs and HOPE that at another presidential election we will have a Ronaldus Magnus appears. While those are my prayers, I see no reason to support the Republican brand. See Fishtalk

Fish,
I completely understand the quitting and organizing the T Party to combat the Country Club. I have a manual you may want to use to get you started. We have used it to pretty good effect and now we are doing more in our section of County than the rest of the county combined. Some say the rest of the state, but much of the state are starting to use it to great effect.

One of the posts they were outraged about was how Romney was too much of a moderate and would lose. It was not very complimentary of the Country Club.

Pray for America

Is this the best you can do? - “As far as you are concerned “nothing. You win.Head in sand always trumps reality.” I must say I am amused.
I was born in a Communist Country, You, I presume live close to one. What I see is the Republican brand creating a situation similar to Venezuela. A Large g’ment party with no options. Sometimes as with Ronaldus Magnus we get to play a holding game, sometime as with the Second amendment wins we even move in the right direction. However I just do not see a limited g’ment option at the top of the Republican ticket. Here in Texas there is an option to elect a small g’ment type in the Republican Senate primary. I will have to wait and see how that turns out. Go Newt.

I humbly ask that you do not come onto this thread with the intent to cause trouble. It doesn't become you, as I honestly respect you and your posting history.

Wow! Years ago I used to post on the Sunday Morning Talk Thread...that was before the "royal we" deemed it a closed thread to FReepers who don't belong to the "club". Perhaps, in the future you should label it a "caucus" thread where no dissenting voices will be heard.

He's more than welcome as it's his house. We'd love to have him post with us and talk about the Sunday shows. Or whatever he wanted. But please don't be dishonest, you know why you pinged him.

You ARE aware, are you not, of Jim's opinion of Romney and his oft-repeated statement regarding a Romney campaign on FR? I bet he would say something that would bring about a request that "I humbly ask that you do not come onto this thread with the intent to cause trouble."

BTW, I notice you spoke of JR without the courtesy of pinging him, while scolding another FReeper FOR pinging him.

I have been reading the Sunday Morning Talk Show thread for years for the usually enlightening conversation, but this particular thread seems to be less about the talk shows and more about peeing to mark territory. A sad show from FReepers for whom I have had a lot of respect.

See my tagline.

You’ve stumped for Romney and impugned those who will not with both regularity and personal diatribe that easily meets the definition of both spammer and troll, subheading, liberal.

“Simply not true of Altura!!! She had other candidates, supported them, and all of them either left or are not winning (Newt). Perhaps you have another definition of “stumped”, but I’m stumped as to why you’d say such an obviously lie.”

I used the definition of stumped found in dictionaries of the English language:
Stumped, re: The Free Online Dictionary
v.intr. 1. To walk heavily or clumsily. 2. To go about making political speeches.

I choose #2 with an option on #1.

Thank you for calling me a liar...when a person is a liberal, it’s evident you simply cannot keep the Alinsky bottled up inside.

If anyone had any doubts.

I've been getting the feeling Romney is itching to work his magic on govt. Fire people, close and consolidate departments, repeal Obamacare. It's his specialty. It's why I was initially a supporter.

Thinking aloud....could he be the one with a quasi-liberal identity to convince the dems that we fix it now or we sink. He would be considered a saviour of the country.

Whereas, Dems wouldn't give the time of day, or a chance in hell to a Newt or Santorum plan because they're "wack job conservatives", don't you know.

Firing government workers won't be easy, unless you've got someplace to put 'em to work, which is where the unleashing of energy in this country comes into play. We can do this.

I think we agree for the most part.

For me the election has never been about Romeny vs. Obama or Newt, Santo or any of the other candidates. Its always been about Democracy, the fate of our Republic, future of capitalism vs. the worst regime/administration the country has ever and hopefully will ever see!

I would vote for a beheaded chicken over obamba. Would I rather have had Palin,Marco, Ryan? Of course!

To me this will be the most important election I ever participate in. Not to give 110% against a proven illegal Kenyan hell bent on destroying a country he hates would be craziness.I will do all I can to vote this clown out of office.

Bottom line, its often necessary to live in the real world.

What is your winning alternative to get rid of zero by not supporting our nominee whomever it is? I all ears. And remember the real world dictates an election by Nov. so what is your alternative? I just can't wait.

So I got a recall on my Jeep Liberty-2005. Seven years ago and now they tell me the whole rear end likely to fall off.

I made appt with dealer this Tuesday, going to drop off and leave overnight. Husband and I will drive up, he in car, natch, me in Jeep....like that.

I tell him that Tuesday is the primary, we should go vote before dropping off Jeep, that we could vote for Newt, kinda flip Mittens the finger.

He says, to my shock and horror, and I’m not making it up...”Nah, I’m gonna vote for Ron Paul.”

So I want to be gracious and all. Better to vote for someone than not vote at all, or so I tell my daughter. “I don’t know if Ron Paul’s on the ballot”.

Which I didn’t know if Ron Paul was on the Delaware primary ballot. I did know, due to timing or some such, that Rick Santorum is on the Delaware ballot so go with me here, husband has some choice for his Republican primary vote.

Ron Paul?

Dear Lord. But so okay. Husband nods and says “he is” so I’m guessing husband checked it out.

Smirk.

There you have it, here in the Fish household. One vote for Newt, one for Ron Paul.

Heh.

Nothing personal. We go after anyone who causes trouble on this thread.

"Trouble" defined as not following the script...as I said, this should be labeled a "caucus" thread as a warning to anyone who may wander in with the false impression that the SMTT is on an open forum.

I have a comment...probably 90% of FReepers decry the fact that the press nor anyone else vetted Obama...yet, over and over I see posts decrying any vetting of Romney. He isn't the nominee yet, and anything that is detrimental to him will be blasted out 1000-fold by the media if he becomes the nominee.

Good luck on the censorship then.

What in the name of all goodness is asking someone not to come with the intent to cause trouble do you not understand?

Did I say I owned anything here?

You absolutely misrepresent me. I have shame for you.

You dare say you liked to come to this thread because it had enlightened conversation, YET, others coming onto the thread to start trouble are somehow people you are going to defend and attack me about it?

Let me tell you, when people seek to get others banned or reported to the boss, that does NOT reek of enlightened conversation, that reeks of trouble making.

The biggest problem I have is not that people disagree or even argue, but rather we’ve found a fault line over Romney, that some will actually want other FReepers banned over because they didn’t join the daily hatred song against him.

Not one of the regular posters here are Romney supporters. I, Rod, Altura, Miss Marple, Bray, Kabar, Morgan in Denver, Rocklobster, Fishtalk, and all the rest have supported OTHER candidates only to see them either not take the flag or lose.

We CAN argue the fact that Obama is worse than Romney, but to ban people for thinking so, or cussing them out, or belittling them as Romneybots is just, well, unfair and unwanted by most here.

WE try hard to avoid that here.... As you said, enlightened conversation. Can you argue your points without accusing me of such nonsense?

You absolutely are wrong to even think this was a desire to make this a closed or caucus thread—no way, no how...

I ask others to tell me if that’s what they think I was getting on about.

Please stop the melodrama.

No one is asking for censorship.

I said the trouble making was not posting anything about Romney but arguing and then running to the boss to get someone in trouble.

I asked Diogensis, humbly so as well. I can make no demands. Diogenis knows this, and if you noted, stopped. Not because I demanded, but because I asked. Asking is not censorship.

This will be the last I will say on this Greyfoxx39, but if you are reading into my simple request for peace into a support for Romney than that is a terrible misrepresntation of what went on.

Once again, no one here I know of is “for” Romney. Many of us are, however, deeply opposed to Obama.

Can we argue that without bitterness and anger here?

This thread IS very much an open forum, GF.

Very few have ever been reported, much less banned or had comments removed from this thread.

AB is reliable, fair and even handed. He’s dependable and guides the thread by mostly not inserting himself into the arguments.

I’m just not sure why you’re saying this is a closed caucus thread when it’s anything but. For a few months one year we even set up a contest that had us judging who had the best posts and giving e-ribbons....AB has a ping list and invites all to join.

Stay around and by all means join in. Very few here are going to defend Romney if that’s your concern. Sometimes we even talk about the Sunday talk shows.

You absolutely are wrong to even think this was a desire to make this a closed or caucus thread—no way, no how...

You replied to Diogenesis' Post #67 with a request that he "not come onto this thread with the intent to cause trouble."

I see nothing in post 67 other than facts about Romney. I fail to see where that is "causing trouble", and if you are going to declare posting rules on your thread over and above the normal FR rules, there should be a disclaimer at the beginning of the thread.

Mind-reading another FReeper and accusing them of "attempting to get others banned" with no proof of such is tantamount to casting shame on other FReepers for "misrepresenting" you....oh wait.

To quote you, "but to ban people for thinking so, or cussing them out, or belittling them as Romneybots is just, well, unfair and unwanted by most here."

Go back through the thread and read the comments made to Diogenisis by the "regulars". Belittling and piling on seems to be an appropriate descripton of the sentiments toward him for daring to post comments that are don't fit the thread template.

You state, "WE try hard to avoid that here"... This is your territory, and now others are aware to give it a wide berth as I have for several years.

One note...there have been posts on this thread regarding the low number of posts compared to the past. Perhaps there is a reason for it.

I believe he’ll be running to JimRob soon. He’s seriously misrepresenting what I’m saying, and we KNOW JimRob often doesn’t think deliberately, but rather reacts. Pat, a long time ago I actually won "post of the day" on this thread.

I have stopped posting here because my opinions often differ from the majority. I have been spending my FR time working against Romney since 2008 and the treatment Diogenesis has received here today is probably mild considering what mine might be since I am called to alert others to the truths of mormonism.

I always look for your posts, and as a former Republican PC, enjoy your tales of Sussex county.

I may continue to read the Talk Show Thread, but maybe not. I can always access your posting history for your wit and wisdom.

“I basically stopped watching when FOX pooh-poohed Palin in 2008 and said all kinds of nice things about Obama.”

I believe that is because FOX was told to toe the line or Murdock would be fried for his England mistakes.

JMHO

“People can only form opinions based on what they know. And if they are busy in their lives and they only catch a shallow impression of things while swamped with the responsibilities of life, that hasty impression is all they have to go on. For them, that is reality…. even when they are absolutely wrong.”

Agree whole-hartedly. Which is why my “perception” of the american voting public would not allow me to get excited about any candidate who would not meet the dumbed down criteria.. . . . too distracted, uninformed, uninterested and easily media manipulated. (Despite, btw, personally being much more aligned with Santorum or Gincrich ) Many on this forum who dared say that, like me, were instantly branded as a troll, commie, RINO, etc.

Someone on this thread said that posts seem to be down here. Maybe that’s because those of us who love this country as much as most of you do (but have a different approach to winning in November) have been made unwelcome in no uncertain terms.

This great nation cannot take another 4 years of Obama madness, and supporting a candidate who wouldn’t be able to win with the above electorate seemed like a fantasy from day one. Reality should come into focus really quickly to anyone who lives and works in this country today. The votes for a pure conservative are just not there. Just look around. Sad, yes, but REAL.

The comparisons between Romney, and Dole, McCain, etc as candidates has been nothing short of ridiculous. The latter were the most horrid picks, but losing had nothing to do with their moderate views. No. The thing so many don’t understand is that elections are not won on policy alone. Dole & McCain had NO persona, NO energy, NO connection to the young voter, and they were both running against uber charisma plus candidates. Both those races were over before they began. Getting a good read on the electorate (which we stink at, but the Dems do so well) is more important than choosing a candidate based on policy alone, unfortunately. Those of us who got that from the beginning have been tarred and feathered here over and over again.
