It has become a cliché for politicians who want to provide some sort of pathway to U.S. citizenship to the estimated 11.2 million illegal aliens living in the United States to say that these illegal aliens will need to “go to the back of the line” first.
However, there are already about 150 million adults living in countries around the world who would migrate to the United States if they could, according to a Gallup survey released on Friday.
That does not count any children these 150 million would-be immigrants might want to bring with them to the United States.
To arrive at this figure, Gallup interviewed 452,199 people at least 15 years or older in 151 countries around the world from 2009 and 2011. Gallup asked: “Ideally, if you had the opportunity, would you like to move permanently to another country, or would you prefer to continue living in this country? To which country would you like to move?”
The 150 million people whom Gallup estimated would like to come to the United States includes 22 million Chinese, 15 million Nigerians, 10 million Indians, 8 million Bangladeshis, 7 million Brazilians, 5 million Filipinos, 5 million Japanese, 5 million Mexicans, and 3 million each from Vietnam, Kenya and the United Kingdom.
In Liberia, 37 percent of all adults want to leave their homeland and move permanently to the United States of America. In Sierra Leone, it’s 30 percent. In Dominican Republic, it’s 26 percent. In Haiti, it’s 24 percent. And in Cambodia, it’s 22 percent...

What is truly sad is in the event of a civil war to preserve the constitution of this nation the first generation immigrants will out number those born here and will fight harder.
Maybe five percent will stand up to preserve the constitution and three of that five will be first generation.

True, I've run into some patriotic immigrants but they have been very, very (very) few compared to those who are always ready with some criticism or other for their new home, and stories of how great it is where they came from.

And they’re all clamoring for a chance to change an adult’s diaper or do a wheelchair lift? I did that sort of work for a while, which is how I know him. I was barely adequate, and this guy was a maestro. The quadriplegic patient we both cared for died, and I retired from the trade. He’s still doing it. Ideal for aging parents, accident victims and such. Jobs are not fungible. Just because an immigrant doesn’t come to the US does not mean that an American will fill the job. And a skilled immigrant who comes legally and works doesn’t “take” a job from someone else, he creates more jobs, because he spends the money he makes. Don’t buy into the leftist fallacy, that economics is a zero sum game. Rising tides lift boats.
Aside from all that I said in the last post, he doesn’t want to come to America to find work. He’s already working in Jerusalem. He wants to see America, become American, and would work in his new home as well.
Tell the leftist college students with the trust funds to go to India. Maybe they’ll appreciate them and look with favor on Occupy Mumbai or Occupy Calcuta protests. Or maybe they’ll just send in some tough cops who’ll slap the living s@#$ out of them. I’d be fine with that.
America needs more people like my friend. He doesn’t drink, doesn’t brawl or commit crimes, and isn’t a Moose Limb or a Moose Limb sympathizer. Quite the contrary. He’d be an asset to the US of A, and he doesn’t want India or Israel anymore, though he is gainfully employed in the latter, and was gainfully employed in the former.

Can confirm this by the ones I’ve met and worked with — mostly in healthcare. Always a complaint about this country, NO interest in our history or founding, ALL about the shopping, the “gettin’” of whatever it is they want that for whatever reason, they can’t get back home. Always sending as much as they can “back home.” Always referring to this as “not home.” No interest really in staying, usually ....not even sure WHAT their future plans ever are ....just know they’re here, taking up jobs, using up resources ...maybe paying taxes, maybe not. Usually trying to outrun the HIB visa authorities. Usually just trying to get grandma and grandpa in for whatever healthcare bennies they can get. Always talking about home, eating food from home, talking in the language from home, and hanging out only with people from “home” or working on the next relative they can bring over “from home.”

While it’s true that most Americans generally want to reduce immigration, it’s also true that there is virtually no political expression for this popular view.
The last time it seemed that sanity might prevail, that both parties would do what’s right and come together to reduce legal immigration was in the mid 90s. Democrat congresswoman Barbara Jordan’s commission released it’s findings calling for a reduction in legal immigration by one third (not enough I know, but better than nothing). Clinton actually endorsed the commission’s findings. There were Republicans in the Senate and House in support of it. It looked like it would pass...but then nothing happened. I don’t think it even got a vote. The ethnic interest groups started their normal nonsense, thus helping to push Clinton away from his earlier position, while Republicans like Spence Abraham helped sabotage it.
Since then restrictionist can point to stopping Amnesty as a success, but legal immigration remains at mass levels.
Obama obviously would love to increase and expand immigration from 3rd world countries as it would hasten the demographic destruction of the GOP. What about Romney? While being good (so far) on illegal immigration, he has also said how we should increase legal immigration!
In other words, too many in the GOP remain clueless. I’ll gladly vote for Romney over our current, terrible President, but there is no reason to expect much of an improvement on immigration if Romney does win.

Depends on the group. I should imagine the aspirations of the West Africans are very modest: escape malaria, dengue, sleeping sickness and the possibility of getting shot or enslaved.
