Make that “Cooke.”
I remember this show. Very good piece here.
The hair stoodup on my neck and I was physically move by this. Thanks.
Wow. 40 years ago. I’m so sorry that he has been proven correct on every point.
I believe I am going to spend my sunset years telling my sweet grandson what it was like to live in America when
men were free.
Can anyone think of an instance when decadence hasn’t won over vitality?
Very unusual, I think. As you imply, decadence usually seems to triumph over vitality.
Feudal society is good society. The (small) middle class flourishes, the land owners flourish, the power of the central government is limited. There are property rights. etc.
It sucks to be on the bottom of the feudal society, but it sucks to be on the bottom of every society. Upward mobility is there, but it takes a few generations, and it takes worthiness. Downward mobility is always present.
The great leaps forward in science, technology, and industry occurred in what was pretty much a feudal form of government.
Anyway, it’s better than whatever it is we have.
The enemies in a feudal system only had catapults, at best.
Today, the bad guys have nukes and missiles.
