GOP elite holds off the tea partiers.
Politico ^ | April 21, 2012 | James Hohmann

The Republican Party establishment has withstood the tea-party revolution.

The tricorne-hat wearing, Gadsden-flag waving insurgents were nowhere near the Republican National Committee’s annual meeting of state chairman, which wrapped up at a posh resort here Saturday afternoon.

Instead, veteran party leaders — who wore business suits even in the 100-degree heat — reigned supreme.

The 2012 meeting of the Republican national command shows just how little has actually changed in the Grand Old Party since the tea-party movement helped Republicans capture the U.S. House majority two years ago and announced that they were a powerful force in American politics.

While tea-party activists have won county chairmanships and seats on state central committees, few (if any) activists have clinched slots on the Republican Party’s 168-member governing committee.

That is a great summation of Newt's work when he was in power before. Thanks Jim and Onyx!

I am not supporting the GOP candidate for president this time. If I see tea party candidates for lesser office, I will support them. I support conservatives, not republicans.

You CAN support Newt with a very clear conservative conscience...

You’re spouting old, old Democratic Party talking points meant to demoralize conservatives. Exactly what I would expect from a troll in Maine.

LOL Yeah GOPe, we’ve crawled back under our rocks. We’re working tirelessly to defeat you in races all across the country. There is no time to come out with flags waving. You’ll be hearing from us in the ‘12 elections, just like you did in ‘10.

If the article makes any point worth noting in general, it is that the Tea Party and all conservatives need to work harder at gaining chairmanships, leadership committe posts, etc..

INFILTRATE.

“Yep, I see Romney to be a bigger threat this time than Obama. If he wins, the direction of the GOP will forever be changed.”

Hey, I hear what you guys are saying, I agree with all your arguments.
An open convention would be powerful.

But.... Absolutely NO ONE is as big a threat than Obumo.
The direction of the GOP already sucks. Romney getting elected cannot make it suck worse. Obumo getting reelected makes everything suck worse.

I am sorry to pee on your parade, but....

You're peeing on Sarah Palin. We need to help Newt in order to stop Romney from getting the 1144 delegates. Once that happens, THEN we can rally for nominating Sarah Palin at the convention.

You’re right!!! Both Rush and Sarah said that Newt is an imperfect vessel but however an imperfect vessel that can help us - conservatives and Tea Party by fighting and standing up to Mitt until we can take this thing to the convention

According to the latest Fox News Poll in Ohio, which is a swing state, 73 percent of registered voters that identify themselves as Tea Party members would vote for Mitt Romney and 66 percent of them have a favorable opinion of him. It’s clear that he has a lot of support from Tea Party members and, since it’s still early, could still attract more when he starts campaigning for the general election.

What do you think of that?

I've heard of Fox News. Weren't they the ones who claimed to be "Fair and Balanced" before the jumped in the tank for Mitt?

The Republican Party establishment has withstood the tea-party revolution.

The election hasn't been held yet, and even if Romney wins the nomination, AND the election, there might be even more Tea Party types in the House and Senate come Jan. of 2013. THAT would be the ultimate poke in the eye to the elites.

Clearly the GOPe considers the Tea Party movement not ready for national prime time, and perhaps they are correct.

LOL! The corrupt GOPe who has a LIBERAL as their candidate and that candidate lying/trashing the WeThePeople candidate is correct when they say the TP is not ready for prime time??? What the freak would you think the big gov't elite would say!! They aren't correct but no one would expect anything different from them - they would rather forget 2010 and have the truly clueless agree with them.
