GM announced plans to build the new 2013 Cadillac XTS luxury sedan [in China].

That Obama. What a card.
Or as they say in China, a 2013 Cataract.
The unions must be thrilled!
Yet another reason to refuse to buy a Government Motors car.
Every time I see a Cadillac, I think of:
* leisure suits
* poseurs
* pimps
* union thugs with truncheons
Am I wrong?
I hope Caddy purchasers like that new flavor of “new car smell” (think: the inside of a Harbor Freight store).
Wonder who was the bonehead who made that decision? There goes the neighborhood!! Buh, Bye caddie.
How come communists can afford Cadillacs and I can’t afford shit??
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Easier to do biz with ChiComs than to do biz in the USA.
Now....that is highly, highly instructive.
Once the plant is up and running Obama will then try to take credit for creating 500 new jobs.

Don’t worry. Someday GM will return the money they borrowed from you.
You have Obama’s word on it.
Maybe upholstered with fine Bejing Dogskin leather... They should have enough material considering the number of canines they serve up to Kenyan muslim visitors.
Currently, only the Cadillac SLS, an extended length luxury sedan, is built in China. Cadillac imports the CTS, SRX crossover and Escalade from plants in the United States and Mexico.
Well what about all that American taxpayer GM-bailout money? Shouldn’t there be a clause in the associated fine print that says keep the jobs in America?
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem too much to ask.
Our tax dollars at work. How nice.
That’ll help sales in the US.
Urban Dictionary definition Caddy Driver
A person who “drives” like a person “driving” a Cadillac.
A person who:
Does not signal turns or lane changes.
Doesn’t clear snow off the back window.
Never checks the mirror.
Hogs the left lane.
Acts as if he owns the road.
Treats other drivers with contempt.
Puts the brakes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, for no reason at all.
Well I guess the Chinese qualify to drive, at least the one’s I get stuck behind in Houston
Government Motors sending jobs overseas. Like the Chinese can’t afford to pay a premium on a luxury car? See, e.g., Mercedes, Audi, Porsche.
I was never a HUGE supporter of the notion that you just HAVE to “buy American, no matter what,” no matter if the only options are made by UAW goons, no matter how poor the repair record is, etc. But it was worth a smidge extra to me if a product was American and otherwise a good deal.
Now, this?
The one big reason we were supposed to buy GM is out the window TOO, in addition to all the BAD stuff (benefits to union goons, etc.) that’s sticking around.
I’ll stick with my 2000 Honda Accord, assembled in Marysville Ohio with non-union-goon labor.
Don’t want to hear another word out of King BOZer0’s flapping purple lips about American jobs being outsourced overseas? Now our very taxpayer-owned Govt. Motors is sending ‘our’ jobs to the CHicoms. Are we chumps or what?
I hope the leather for the seats won’t be cured in urine.
Does the U.N. have a car designing division? No matter where the cars are from anymore they all seem to have common design features. Been that way for number of years, but more, and more now we see what appears to be collusion, or some sort of ISO design feature.
IOW they all look alike so much it’s hard to tell anymore one from another.
I thought that between the UAW and Obama they had controlling interest on the board?
The union had to be okay with this for it to happen, the administration couldn’t do this alone, or the other bond holders, only a quorum could make this happen.
I wonder how well that will sit with the rank and file?
Michael Moore is going there to shoot film for a snarky movie.....NOT!
If they are sold in China I have few problems. Buick is a big seller in China but as far as I know the ones built there are not sold here. That includes most, but not all parts.
Similar to buying those foreign make cars built here by mostly non union folk in TN, AL, IL and other states.
If the Caddys are built there and sold here...how’s that hope and change and bailout thing working out for yunz union folk?
Seems to me this is an act of desperation on the part of GM.
They gotta know the American buyer is going to consider the manufacture of the car in China as a negative.
For such an announcement to come out today means this has been in the works for a long time. It would be interesting to know the history of this decision relative to the timing of Obama’s GM “bailout”.
A ChiCom made car is CRAP... (I saw a you tube crash test of a Great Wall ... believe me I would feel safer in a Yugo!!)
There goes Caddy's image!!
It would be designed in Detroit, and the parts made and assembled in China.
No way would Cadillac put its emblem on a Chinese designed car, never. One of the few things it has left is name recognition, and without that they might as well be Pontiac or Oldsmobile, i,e gone.
Maybe I should buy one to show the UAW then again just buy a Toyota.
They used my money to create jobs in China and Mexico ( GM built a new engine plant in Mexico).
They also used my money to buy votes for odinga.
And to buy hookers in Columbia.
Sell off America one piece at a TIME
They are going to be called Cadirracs instead of Cadillacs!
Are they going to be called Cadirracs instead of Cadillacs!
Are they going to be called Cadirracs instead of Cadillacs?
I know a bunch of people, including two relatives, who truly believe GM paid back the loans. When you point out they borrowed money to pack back the money, you get a blank stare. I don’t think they understand what a “refinance” is.
I don't remember hearing any news of this.....

Lexus now
Excellent and long overdue move. I’ve never figured how a UAW wrench turner is more of a skilled worker than someone who solders electronic parts together. For the price of a typical UAW high school dropout, you can hire several Chinese college grads who don’t stick beer cans, cigarette butts and assorted non-auto related accessories in the door panels or deliberately sabotage the cars just to show management (and the hapless car buyer) who’s boss. It’s long past time that the UAW was sent to the glue factory.
I’m sure CEO Obamah will pay UAW wages and pensions!
I own one of the last pre government motors Cadillacs, an 08’ STS which I love. Sadly I will never again buy a Caddy. While I am morally outraged at the outright theft from GM bondholders, the real reason to never buy a Cadillac again is service and quality.
GM as a company is making most of their decisions based on politics, similar to Jaguar when they were taken over by the British unions. I believe the result of those policies will become apparent soon in the form of reduced dependability.
As for service, I have dealt with 3 dealerships in two different states and frankly I find the service to be extremely poor. Every time I have taken my car in for warranty work, it has taken more than one trip to fix the problem. Instead of being apologetic about the situation, the service people are generally unconcerned with an unhappy customer. Looking on line this seems to be a theme for caddy dealerships when compared to Lexus or BMW.
With all the competition in the luxury car market, perhaps Caddy is smart to build in China as Americans will no longer want them.
“Shouldnt there be a clause in the associated fine print that says keep the jobs in America?”
I am all for GM moving out of the country. They will build a good international business outside this country and eventually close all of their US plants. Bye bye UAW! Ford, the company that didn’t take the bailout, has already announced that they are never going to build another plant in the US. So your future US made cars will be Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and BMW. All with non- union plants! One way or another, the UAW is done, and good riddance!
