Film Journalist confesses that there was always something he didnt like about Robert Downey Jr., and now he knows what he is: the actor is a Republican. This explains why he appears in movies Film Journalist doesnt like, says film journalist. More:
In 2009 Downey conveyed his politically rightward drift to N.Y. Times reporter David Carr. I have a really interesting political point of view, and its not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you cant go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You cant. I wouldnt wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics ever since. [Emphasis Film Journalist's -- RD].
Film Journalist doesnt stop to wonder what Downey might have meant by that. What did he see in prison, what might he have had done to him in prison, that forced his political conversion? There are really interesting questions there, but not to Film Journalist, to whom this quote from Downey has value only in that it confirms that hes a horrible, filthy, no good right-winger. Film Journalist finds an Unnamed Source who knew Downey back then to say that yes, the man is a whore:

I cant wait to see The Avengers.
I’ve always liked this guy. If any of you have never seen “Chaplin”, I recommend it.
He used to be a Reagan Hater, IIRC
He’s no longer a drug sodden bad boy that Hollywood seems to love.
However he is a money maker so they can tolerate him.
It’s pretty tough to work with folks who got affirmative action jobs and stay a liberal too.
Not impossible,I guess, but tough.
One factor in all this is that with a series of very large grossing films, which he had back end participation in, he now has “f*** y** money” and can speak out. Welcome, brother!
I used to think I was a liberal, too. I never disliked Reagan, but Downey is much is much younger than I.
The opening scene in Iron Man 2 was the most pro-capitalist /anti big government scene in cinematic history. Short, brutal, and easy to understand and sympathize with.
He was great in Chaplin. Not to mention hilarious in Through A Scanner Darkly and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Glad he’s one of us.
That makes two of us. Iron Man kicks @$$!
He was wonderful in that film. But I’m a Chaplin fan and I’m happy Downey overcame his demons.
Chaplin would have had a field day with the Rahm, Axelrod, Michelle and Obama characters. Ah, those were the film makers.
Thought his last two Sherlock Holmes were great. Like the second one better. I am so glad he got another chance after all his drug problems.
I estimate he is also clean and sober for over ten years, which may correlate with his political conversion.
Twelve step recovery involves personal responsibility, accountability, honesty, spirituality, etc.
(I met Downey at a meeting during 2000, soon after which he relapsed once more, I believe)
I just couldn't stand the thought of somebody bastardizing Chaplin trying to play him. But I finally watched it ... it was made, I think, before Downey's stint in the ol' Crowbar Hotel. Shoot-howdy, Downey is a fine actor.
Film Journalist my a$$
I agree. Bought the first one on DVD. Loved it. Waiting for the second one to come out and will buy that one too. The theaters don’t have a pause button. LOL!
Every lib should do a stint in a penitentiary.
Downey’s upbringing is very similar to that of David Horowitz. I could see the same sort of political awakening, although as an actor, he will have to keep thing quieter.
Loved Regan, but now I feel old.
I was watching Downy when he was making bubble-gum movies before he even became a bad boy.
-----
An exceptional actor making great movies that I don't have to boycott...it's the entertainment trifecta! Hooray!
I will watch *anything* he’s in.
[Even Iron Man]
;]
It is really a good movie. I think I remember a part in the movie where he’s dining with Nazis....and a woman says something about the disabled being a ‘drain on the system’. That fits libs to a capital “T”.
I KNEW there was a reason I was pulling for this guy to get his act together.
Welcome home Robert Downey, Jr.
One heck of a great actor. Let’s hope he can persuade some of the gullible, ignorant liberals in Hollywood with his non-conventional, conservative perspective.
"I don't care about the liberal agenda."
Beautiful. :)
What he saw in jail scared him. Evil is scary even to brave men.
“Chaplin would have had a field day with the Rahm, Axelrod, Michelle and Obama characters.”
Doubtful he would have gone after them. Chaplin was on the Left.
Loved Chaplin, even though I hated RD Jr. at the time. Seems he has his mind right, finally.
You said it, Mama!
(I feel old, too...I also remember Downey, Jr. before he was a bad boy ;)
I read Chaplin moved rightward by the ‘60s and was disparaging of the “hippie” movement.
I was pretty sure after Ironman.
I think Richard Pryor after making a movie at the AZ state pen said; “I talked to ‘em and - thank God we got penitentiaries.”
Well he would’ve been about 19 or 20 when Regan took office so perhaps he was just too your to know what he thought?
Please repost that and clean it up. Lazy is not a virtue.
very easy on the eyes!
And the scene where he appears before congress....love it.
The Lord put him on my heart when he was having rough time with drugs. We started praying for him to be blessed and be delivered from drugs and come to know Jesus . I was so glad when he appeared to beat the drugs, what a sweet man. We still pray for him and I read he and his wife had a baby recently. I know God’s hand is on him. We prayed for Michael Douglas to be healed of cancer along with who knows how many Christians and his recovery was a miracle I believe. The Lord loves them all. (Drew Barrymore is on our prayer list too for ten years now)
I was thinking that exact thing....Horowitz was also raised as a “red diaper” baby. Also noticed his charactor in Iron Man was rather like John Galt or Reardon.
Have you seen “Less Than Zero”? That and “Sid and Nancy” (with Gary Oldman) should keep your nieces and nephews off of drugs...
Amazing after LTZ that Downey fell into the trap of drugs.....but on another note, Jamie Gertz was a major hottie in that movie, and The Bangles did a good cover of Simon and Garfunkle’s “Hazy Shade of Winter.”
Prison will bust white liberal notions on race real quick
Wood is good....in Downeys case
Blacks' too, as Richard Pryor found out:
It made my heart ache, you know, to see all these beautiful black men in the joint. The warriors should be out there helping the masses. I felt that way, I was real naive. Six weeks I was up there and I talked to the brothers. I talked to 'em, and ...THANK GOD WE GOT PENITENTIARIES!
I asked one, 'Why did you kill everybody in the house?' He says, 'They was home.'
I met one dude, kidnap-murdered four times. And I thought, three times, that was your last, right? I says, 'What happened?' 'I can't get this s--t right! But Im getting paroled in two years.'"
Is that the one where Pryor says “I met a guy who’s doing triple life! That means if he’s re-incarnated he has to get his little toddler ass back into jail...”
When I was about 10 or 11 I read “Go Ask Alice”.
Not only was I never a drug user, I was so horrified that I got drug phobias.
Won’t go near people that are drug users to this day.
-Terrifying- book.
I did see Sid And Nancy and it freaked me out.
Don’t think I could sit through “Less Than Zero” if it’s a similar movie.
That’s wonderful! Maybe you’ll drop a prayer or two for Charlie Sheen. Haven’t heard much about him, but ... sad stuff there.
Are there others that confirm his conservative beliefs?
Auto correct jumps in and does that I am not lazy.Perhaps something could be done about your mouth?
“very easy on the eyes!”
Well, he’s a nice politically conservative Jewish boy.
We have a “look.”
