Tea party will ‘absolutely’ back Romney in general election, says movement leader
The Daily Caller ^ | April 24, 2012 | Jamie Weinstein

Posted on 04/24/2012 8:00:09 AM PDT by St. Louis Conservative

Though the tea party wasn’t particularly enthused about Mitt Romney’s presidential candidacy during the primary, one tea party leader who was present at the inception of the movement says the tea party will get behind the former Massachusetts governor going into the general election.

“Absolutely, the tea party can and will support Mitt Romney in the general election, and with great energy in the door-to-door ground game,” said Michael Patrick Leahy, co-founder of The Nationwide Tea Party Coalition and author of the recently released book, “Covenant of Liberty: The Ideological Origins of the Tea Party Movement.”

“It’s important also to note that this is a strong sentiment at the local level — among the 3,000-plus local tea parties.”

“Though on the core values, Mitt Romney’s not as aligned with us as Michele Bachmann, he’s far superior to Barack Obama,” Leahy added.

“Our job in the tea party movement is to cautiously but vigorously befriend Romney, while reserving the right to encourage him — continuously — to align more closely with our core values. This encouragement to align has already begun, and it will continue through and beyond election day.”

Leahy also pushed back against the notion that the tea party is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

“[T]he tea party’s grassroots get-out-the-vote activities will be the deciding force of the 2012 presidential election,” he contested.

My son is in the JROTC, VA 9th grade.  He wants to join the Marines as soon as he graduates HS.  I told him that if Obummer gets relected that I wanted him to wait till he's out of office before he signs up.  He has agreed to it.  (He can work on attaining higher degrees of black belt in Tae Kwon Do while he's waiting.  Should be 1st degree near start of 12th grade)

I know this doesn't make you feel any better as your grandson is already in.  I feel your pain.  Believe me.  I'm as worried about as you.

Just wanted to share.

This bears repeating!

a vote for, say, the Constitution Party candidate will be recorded as a vote against both unacceptable party candidates and that is the statement I wish to make and for the elites to know.

Nothing could be worse than the way things are now.

I heard the same wailing and gnashing of teeth when Clinton was going to be re-elected, running against another squishy GOP liberal.

They realize that if Obama is re-elected that it means the end of the constitution, the end of this country.

Obama is certainly the worst president in history but he won't end the constitution in 4 years! That's just the type of panic the GOP wants in order to get you to fear Obama enough to stomach voting for Romney. We would do just fine by waiting til 2016 for a real conservative!

the reason the left can attack the tea party was because there is no leader to attack.

Retard? Wow, that’s Freeper friendly. Seems to me that if we don’t vote for the Republican nominee, whomever that may be, we will be voting for Obama and guaranteeing him four more years of socialism promotion. I’m with Sarah Palin who said, “Anyone but Obama.” I suppose she’s a retard as well?

I haven't decided what I'm gonna do yet.  As it stands right now, I'm pretty much seething at the GOPE for pushing that liberal looser Romney on us.  I see Romney as Obama's tag team partner, for all intensive purposes.  Romney is a liberal activist/socialist who uses capitalism to line his pockets all the while pushing socialist policies. (Strange birds these socialist capitalists, makes no sense really. Haven't figured out what their bag is yet.)

Having said that, I'm not really pissed off at the ABO people.  I'm pissed off at the people who came out early in support of Romney like Niki Haley, the gov. of SC, Ann Coulter etc. when there were still viable (real) conservatives still in the race.  I'm not mad at the people who supported conservatives all the way down the line as far as they could.  It' the A holes who came out early for Romney and who bought into the GOPE's "electablity" bull crap that I'm PO'd about.

So they won't vote at all or they'll vote for Dear Leader?

Stupid is as stupid does.

Nope, stupid is voting for a lying, left-wing Progressive Liberal after professing yourself a conservative because he is just a little better than Obama.

Even more stupid, is making jackass statements that conservative Christians would ever vote for a Crypto-Communist like Obama.

ANd the most stupid, are those pretend conservatives who are pushing a lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal like Mitt Romney, when there are still 46% of the delegates to be won and there is still a viable conservative candidate in the race like Newt Gingrich.

Those people are both stupid and without conservative principles.

Mandate-Mitt is the PERFECT fit for what the 15 trillion Federal-Bloc wants.

An “emergency-crisis” 15 trillion anytime.

Federalites, Bill, Hill., Joe, and the gang, will not be voting for the Coffee Server, they’ll pull the lever for their Mandate-Man.

If Romney should become President, we would probably have eight more years of liberalism. Remember, Ford’s defeat gave us Ronald Reagan.

No, the "tea party" knows that some things, however unpleasant, are to be preferred to another term of Barack Obama, the pleasure of the moral masturbation of "I'm not voting for Mittens" notwithstanding.

I'll vote for a candidate listed on the ballot in November. It won't be Obama, and it won't be Romney.

That conservative that I vote for will not be perfect. But he will be conservative. Which you can't say about Romney.

You are rewarding the bad behavior of the GOP by proving that you will vote for whatever liberal crap they push. You might as well vote for Obama. Liberal is liberal.

And regardless of your childish name-calling, and projecting your frustration and anger at real conservatives.... we're still not going to vote for Romney.

In fact, if he gets the nomination, I'll campaign against him.

You live in La-La land, waiting for the "perfect" candidate, which is no different than the commies who believe Liberalism will lead to Utopia. Soooo, because there ain't no perfect Conservative, you're going to hold your breath until you turn blue ... and will probably kick your feet on the floor too. Yeah, that'll show 'em. Vote Dear Leader out; vote to increase the GOP majority in the House; and vote for the GOP to take back the Senate. Anything less than that is stuuuuuupid.

No one is looking for the perfect conservative. We're looking for someone at least MODERATELY CONSERVATIVE. Mitt's record is disastrous!

Also, nobody is saying we should not show up to vote. The House and Senate is a priority to every FReeper! There are just some of us with conservative convictions.

If Mitt Romney wins and continues his pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, anti-gun agenda just remember that you voted for him.

Sarah Palin? The lady who, while a vary exciting conservative figure, has made one bone-headed political move after another... that’s your model?

As I recall, she hasn’t made a whiff of a difference in our political landscape. She quit her governorship, she toyed with us by making us think she might run, and she hasn’t even endorsed anyone (much less a conservative) so WHAT GOOD IS SHE TO US?

Make retarded statements and you’ll be called on it. Not voting for Obama is not the same thing as voting for Obama.

And please, let’s stick together despite our differences. Divided we fail.

I’m not expecting to change minds in here but people need to face reality. This election is different. It’s a matter of life or death.

Sorry for the confusion. I’m in the habit of including the content of someone’s post in my replies to them so that others won’t have to hunt down the other parties post so find out what I’m talking about. I forgot to add the quote marks to indicate that.

And SWAMPSNIPER’S grandkid is a fine looking kid. I’m hoping my turns’ out as well.

The thing about the Tea Parties is that everyone is Spartacus and no one is in charge. There are many organizations and each speaks only for themselves.

THIS SUNDAY - OCTOBER 25TH

(SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA) - The Tea Party Express II (www.TeaPartyExpress.org) launches this Sunday with a giant kickoff rally in San Diego and a subsequent rally later in the day in Los Angeles.

The Tea Party Express II: Countdown to Judgment Day national tour will span 19 days, rallies in 38 cities, and cover more than 7,000 miles.  The tour marks the one-year point from the 2010 elections when numerous members of Congress will be targeted for defeat, as a result of their support of higher deficits, growth in the size and intrusiveness of government, higher taxes, bailouts and more.

Obama, Romney, not much difference anyway. Go ahead and vote for the RNC nomination and show them there simply isn’t a candidate you wouldn’t vote for no matter what as long as he’s a Republican.
